Hi guys,
I am having some trouble with level 2 security mission runs and would be very much grateful for any advice you can give me on this matter. I've fitted my Coercer with a build I've found on EvE University. It worked great on Level 1 missions but as soon as I've moved on Level 2 missions first problems appeared. I've found that enemies damage can be quite overwhelming so I've jumping in and out of mission area and clearing enemies slowly. If damage got critical I would warp out, repair then came back in. On my last mission I've encountered enemies that are harder to hit with my beam turrets and they jam my warp drive so I can't escape to repair. Can you give me any advice how to deal with this issue , do I need more powerful ship or better weapons ?
Thank you all very much in advance |

That's hard to tell and could have different reasons, for example:
- You are generally too low skilled at the moment or don't have the right skills yet - The fitting of your ship is flawed, for instance you are using the wrong shield/armor hardeners/resistance modules for the specific pirate type you are fighting against - You are triggering too many rats at the same time. "The Blockade" mission is a prominent example that can bring you into trouble if you don't shoot the ships in the right order
An important resource which helps at least with the second and third point is EVE Survival.
To get a better or more specific advice I'd suggest that you describe an example: Which mission did you try? Which ship and fitting did you use? What is your current skill set? And what problems did you have in the mission?
PS: Scram in a level 2 mission sounds weird. I always thought the are no scrams below level 4. But I may be wrong...

Does your ship have an afterburner?
When using long range turrets ( beam lasers) they have a hard time hitting small fast things if they are orbiting you.
By burning away from your target, npcs are pretty stupid and will follow you in a straight line making them perfect targets.
Use this method to remove small, fast warp disrupting targets from the field and then you can focus on the bigger stuff. |

Hello and welcome to Eve.
This is just a basic guide for ship class verses mission level :
Level 1 = Frigate / Destroyer Level 2 = Cruiser Level 3 = Battlecruiser Level 4 = Battleship Level 5 = Carrier / small fleet with logistics
Course with high skill level and top notch ship fit, even a Tech 1 Frigate can complete level 3 Security missions within the bonus time.
Which brings me to the next topic - skills.
Best to train up the Core Fitting skills asap. Those will enhance ship stats as well as allow you to easily do good ship fits.
As somebody else previously mentioned, your piloting tactics should be guided by your ship fit. In other words, if you're set up for long range snip action and dropped into the middle of a rat pack, you should quickly get range from the pack and maintain it. If you wanna do in your face brawler action then go short range weapons and fit a buff defensive tank since you'll almost be a sitting target.
Now about ship fit - don't mix defensive tanks such as shield and armor. It's best to pick one type and add various modules to enhance that specific defensive tank.
Lastly, it's no shame to drop back to a lower level mission and train up a bit more. It's much better than losing a ship or spending ISK for constant repairs. Also there's usually other players in corp chat who will fleet up and help.
Good luck to you.

You can also make friends and run the missions with them. Finding an active, friendly and helpful corporation is the way to win EVE ;)

Figure out which lv of missions you want to do, then figure out which plattforms (Armor/Shield and Turrets vs Missles) first, then start to train for an appropriate ship.
Gets you into missions way faster than training armorskills for a shield ship or vice versa....

Get a Gnosis and a medium micro jump drive. NPC do not scram - they disrupt and micro jump drive will let you get out even if scrammed. Gnosis has all bonuses there even if you have not trained any racial battlecruiser at all, yet. For L2 missions it would be enough if you put large shield extender and a couple of mission specific shield hardeners on it.
Usually ppl use active tank in PvE, but Gnosis in L2 mission is the case, when you are good with passive one. So you do not need to skill shields much. In L3 missions you will need active tank and here active armor can be and option, though I still think active shield will serve you better.
If you are serios with mission path you will have to skip amarr cause there is no high end ship in that race, that is concidered best for mission running. Even their marauder is limited to EM / thermal damage only. And to clear the mission pocket quickly enough you have to adjust damage type to the NPC in mission. Check eve-survival web page to get the info.
Dominix - sentry drones let you sit 100 km from NPC with all gank no tank fit and apply mission specific damage inside the optimal (drone range bonus). Mission boat for poor and low skill. Rattlesnake - FOF missiles and drones let you fire even 100 % jammed. Best non-marauder ship for clearing the entire room. Almost same damage from drones as Dominix, but you will also have missiles - so almost double damage comparing to Dominix Machariel - best ship for blitzing mission (when you do not kill all NPC but only few needed to complete the mission). Bonus for speed and projectile turrets let you adjust damage type just like missiles or drones. Requires very good skills level and knowledge, whom to shot and in what order Marauders are T2 battleships, designed by CCP to serve as mission boats. Amarr and Gallente ones are not the best option due to limited damage type they can apply.

As well as the Core Fitting Skills already mentioned, the Gunnery Support Skills will help you as well.
The skills are :- Motion Prediction Surgical Strike Rapid Firing Controlled Bursts Sharpshooter Trajectory Analysis
Ive put them in order of importance (opinion, it may be wrong )
Train them to Level 3, and increase them over time as you train other things. |

I did not know that level 2 rats did this. Are you sure about this part?
Also: You may hear the term "mission specific resists" Figure out what type of damage the rats are dealing, then fit your ship specifically to resist that. There are also skill which improve those resist modules. As you train the skills, you will feel the improvement, level by level.

Make sure you have T2 armor tank fitted ASAP. This is, in my oppinion, the first thing mission runners should go for. T2 shield/armor skills are good for every ship size.
This will help greatly. They are what... 3-4 days training time for either shields or armor? |

Yes I am pretty sure. They've jammed my warp drive so I could not escape and repair. I've lost 2 destroyers that way did not wan't to bother anymore. So I am now training for Arbitrator and drones for T2 missions wile doing T1 again. I also plan going with prophecy for T3. I know some guys recommend different ships but I kinda want to try Amarr ones for the start |
