Hmmm ok so there's like this pretty cool and detailed background with lots of great detail, plots and ancient enmities.
So far so good.
But hey! One day we all woke up and the entire universe had changed!
Our standings with corporations and concord had plunged.
Our microwarp drives had mutated into piddling little jets that wouldn't power a decent sized hover car, so we had to rush out and buy new ones.
Suddenly there are a bazillion pirates at the belts AND they suddenly have battleships!
Suddenly research agents pop up all over the galaxy and begin pimping for our services.
Ummmm all the rarer minerals vanished (AGAIN!) even further out into space.
Sooooooo basically what happened??
Is there going to be some sort of explanation for people who try and RP?
Or are CCP just going to admit that this game has no RP potential and then they may as well delete all the background stuff as it's now utter nonsense.
Jeebus I recall seeing posts in the Summit about players not messing with prime fiction....please delete this too as it's just utter nonsense now.
I think CCP should just own up and advertise this game properly to prospective customers....
....it's just an average space shoot em up with some resource management!

Eh, an average shooter?
Me thinks you need to lock harder. Generally they are good at providing rp ideas, but sometimes it's actually more important to create a fun balanced game than to provide the background story. Hopefully they will provide some more stories though, if you have been looking they have actually prepared with a lot of stories before.

C'mon man thats a little unfair CCP have patched to add content that alot of ppl were crying out for. CCP never intended to release all tech levels at once. are you going to post the same arguement when the tl 3 patch is added? when titans and jove tech is added?
CCP has been working flat out to get the patch released, whats more important the way it's been released or the fact it's been released at all?. There are tl 2 items that aren't on the market yet, like ships for instance and I'm willing to bet that they will be RP'd into the game. Cut the DEVS some slack m8, or if EVE online is really ....

My point is that for a persistant world to be believable then changes need to be gradual....or if they are sudden then there MUST be a good watertight explanation.
There is NO point having a background etc if you just up and change everything one day with no explanation.
They either need to just admit the background is pointless and get on with making the game work well.
Or find ways to change it gradually or with some sort of logical reasoning.
To be honest at the minute it may as well be Blue team, Green team, Red team and Yellow team for all the believability there is
Also take a look in the events section....the least number of posts of any forum section, and virtually every post if players trying to make something up to make it more interesting.
CCP need to decide what they want the game to be, and stop making it try and sit on the fence.
I still kind of like it....but it's gradually slipping away from me. ============================================== "Trust no man who says to you that 'The ends justify the means' or who says that 'We will do whatever it takes...'. These men have no honour, and are fit only to be politicians."

Edited by: wordy on 18/12/2003 02:30:43 CCP always touted this game as a game where player were largely left up to there own devices to make things happen in the universe. I was a game were players were the content, so to speak.
I'm not meaning to take the p1ss but I'll add a little RP'ing for the MWD nerf
An unamed CONCORD official was quoted as saying
"Today an inter empire agreemnet was reached for the limitation for propulsion augmentations for each ship class. Instead of having battleship class ships that were leaving frigates standing, we now have limitations on capital ships that stop inexprienced captains rushing into combat that they are ill-prepared for. While smaller frigetes can scout an area and make sure that the area is safe for high value targets to conduct operations"
"remember dear readers, you heard it here first. Off the record, on the QT, and very HUSH, HUSH!"

I don't mind having player driven content IF it works....but player content in EVE is simply shooting each other atm.
Counter Strike has exactly the same player driven content.
The RP on the MWDs is 100% better than CCPs...which is...ummmm ....nothing
But I'd have to come back with....
A Spokesman for the pilots guild retorted..
"Concord need to get their butts out of the doughnut shop and get some serious investigation started. My members have had their MWDs stolen from cruisers in their supposedly secure personal hangars, and replaced with vastly inferior models. Many of our mining members have also reported the "theft" of many of the more profitable ores, although for some reason those responsible were forced to drop their ill gotten gains out in deep space before making a clean getaway."
Either they want the background to have some meaningful impact on the game, or they don't.
As things stand it looks like they aren't really bothered about it but feel they should make some pretense that it still matters.
They need to get off the fence and decide which direction they want to go.
Much of what they seem to be doing with the game mechanics makes sense, and looks good. All I'm asking for is a believable introduction of new content.....or just bin the background and play it as a straight space shoot em up/sim. ============================================== "Trust no man who says to you that 'The ends justify the means' or who says that 'We will do whatever it takes...'. The RP explanation is that you've just left drug rehab and no longer have delusions of grandeur due to substance abuse, you now see the world as it is, for better or worse.

Edited by: Psy Corp on 18/12/2003 08:30:56 Ishukone CEO Gariushi unveils Crielere discoveries
Otro Gariushi, CEO of Ishukone has announced that recent discoveries made at the ultra secret Crielere labs are to made freely available to the public.
Lead scientists at Crielere labs today published a detailed white paper describing possible manufacturing methods using a relatively unknown mineral named morphite. Driven by advances in deep core mining, the team has found an economically feasible method of using the mineral, found in mercoxit ore, for mass production. Research agents throughout the known universe are sure to make use of the information given by the science team, to the surprise of many, as it was not expected that the two main funding partners of the Crielere research project, the Caldari State and Gallente Federation, would give their research results out that freely.
Political analysts have been at a loss to explain why the usually secretive CEO is suddenly so keen to share knowledge with the rest of the world. Skeptics claimed that Gariushi is hyping up this invaluable mineral as he intends to profit from the manufacture of deep core mining lasers, known for their below average performance in mining standard ores.
thats one explonation for one thing thats been released so thats one out of it all better then none... but maybe they couldve said something about the research agents comming out.. maybe something like this..
"Research Corporations release agents freely for everyone to use after the big discovery of the new mineral and ore from the Crielere research project. people tend to ask why corporations would do this but people with importent persons high up in companys have been hearing its to get money out of research just as ishukone and duvolle will make now from the big research"
or something.. thats not that good but

the prob is, ccp is running to catch up with player demands.
they are 5 steps behind us instead of 2 in front.
the concept of slow introduction of stuff seems to be utterly foreign to them, though (most of us) know that it is that much more rewarding to be teased (a bit)...
it would have been simply great to be among the first to discover a NPC pirate battleship. how if they were difficult to destroy and would try to run from you when in danger of being destroyed...
the way stuff is introduced realy shows ccp limitations. they don t have even the spare time/resources to come up with any explanations and feel player pressure to throw stuff out at once.
btw, there never was any explanation for implants or sentryguns either. sigh.
