I have be out in 0.0 the past few weeks ratting. I think I have killed a total of 8 dread ships over the course of my time out here (6 BC 2 BB).
Every time I get faction ammo and some other crappy mods.
Is this normal?

How do you find them? Fly to the systems with as low true securety rating as possible and hope for the best?

In this case dread doesn't stand for 'Dreadnaught' but rather for 'Dread Gurista' or something like that, they die just as easily as normal spawns of the type generally, only have a bounty that is 5-10 times higher and have a chance to drop faction items. Each NPC faction has a different type of faction spawn. With Gurista its 'Dread Gurista' I think, with Sansha its 'True Sansha', with Angel its 'Domination Angel' etc etc. -------------- In completely unrelated news, after careful research, the Guiding Hand Social Club concludes that no member of the Guiding Hand Social Club is guilty of corptheft. |

Generally yes, the lower the (true) sec the more chance you get of finding one.
I once found two domination spawns two belts in a row in a -.07 system then nothing for 3 or 4 weeks. I've killed plenty of dominations and gotten no faction loot, I also have killed two dread guristas frigates in high sec systems (0.5 and 0.7) and gotten dread warp scramblers and ammo from them both.

Yeah 9 out of 10 true sansha spawns I see are crap regardless of the ship type .... I picked up a nice true sansha phantasm the other day which dropped a TS scram / TS NOS / TS hardener active & a TS hardener passive not including the TS crystal and tag which I consider the norm anyways.
It really depends ...
Makes your night's ratting that much more profitable when you do get a good one though.

I have gotten some Dark Blood mods in lvl3 missions and some Dread Gurista mods in lvl4 missions, but it is rare. Very rare. Very Very rare.
I would say 2 or 3 mods out of hundreds and hundreds of missions.

Its very wierd... I've actually picked up more faction spawns in lower truesec then I have anywhere else.
In F67E-Q which is I think like -.02 or some crap like that (Higher then a freakin lowsec) I picked up 3 in a single day, 2 of them were low-grade snake implants. But for a while I would get them almost every other if not every day.
Just recently in a -1.0 I picked up a Dread BS with a high grade crystal delta... But thats about the third faction spawn i've had in 2 months. And the only one with good loot.

Always thought some of this was due to guristas being over farmed but I could be wrong about that. Still, would it be so hard to make some of the regions pith instead of just guristas? Likewise with the other pirate factions.

I have a question:
While checking for faction ships in belts if there is none when you get there, do you wait or go to the next?

Sometimes you get lucky when you wait... I got that crystal delta i was talking about cause I went AFK to make oatmeal... when I came back i started to warp out and they warped on top of me

Does that mean most of the time, if you get there and there is a Dread then that is all you will get.
Also, what is a Dire Guristas? Does that drop nice loot?

Dire guristas are what I like to call annoying... they just have highered resistances and the most annoying one is the dire guristas killer... when 3 spawn they jam almost every other volley of torps

Edited by: DubanFP on 06/03/2007 02:37:03 if you know what you're doing you can get faction spawns daily "i usually do, hell there's been 2-3 times when i've gotten 3 within a couple hours". Most drop faction loot, but it's only a guess as to if the loot that does drop is worth anything. __________________________

2 times now i had faction loot in lvl 4 missions . true sansha smart bomb and [i think] DG rcu. Completely random drops. i allways thought of them as mistakes on the loot table. but in all fairness that was over 10 months ago.

I've had some luck with finding the dreads every so often ( log out at belt rather than SS, log in next day on a dread).
But why are dreads ( I don't have experience with other factions) so easy compared to dire? They drop better loot and I'd assume are higher rank, but they are no harder to kill than the standard ships.
The Dires are a pain with the added resists (as mentioned) and speed + webbing on the frigates. I almost lost my 0.0 cruiser because I didn't expect that one lol.
I hate to derail this thread a bit from faction, but has anyone noticed on the moa ships, that they are harder to bring down than ferox ships? They seem to have higher resists even though the moa definatly shouldn't in comparison to ferox.

I believe the Moas in this case are actually Eagles (HACs) while the Feroxs are just Feroxs.
