Peeps,
Okay, I've been trying to steal containers from people; you know, just scooping them straight into my cargohold. I've been able to do this with some containers, but not others.
I'm wondering what allows me to steal them or not. I figure that it has to do something with anchoring, although I'm not sure.
My two questions are this: a) can i steal any containers, or those that aren't anchored, and b) is there a quick way to tell if a container is anchored or not if I don't own it.
I've heard a few things that I've found to be false. The first is that any container cannot actually be secured in .8 space or above. That's not true ... as I can't steal just any container in .8 space or above. The second is that you can tell by the way the container rotates. Supposively if it rotates on it's pole axis; you can steal it. If it rotates around it's center point, you can't. I'd like to know for sure!

you cant steal from a anchored container. ( IF ITS LOCKED THAT IS!) you can always steal from the normall jettisoned cargo containers. i dont know about you but i took off the anchored cargo containers from my overview so i only see the jettisoned ones. those are always stealable.
though. i find it rather childish to steal from other people.. but its your eve. you pay for it so play how you want.
hope this helps -----------------------------------

You can scoop any unanchored container. What you cannot scoop to cargo is a jetted cargo container. SEXEH!

You cannot scoop a jet can into cargo. You can scoop any standard container into cargo as they cannot be anchored in space. You can scoop any unanchored secure container into cargo. You cannot scoop any anchored secure container into cargo.
You can determine whether a secure can is anchored or not by viewing the can and checking the running lights. If the lights are red the can is anchored and cannot be scooped into cargo. If the lights are green then the can is unanchored and can be scooped into cargo.
Secure containers cannot be anchored in 0.8+ space however they used to be able to so any anchored cans in 0.8+ space are old ones left over from way back when...

It's not childish when it's full of goodies...
Some naive soul left 2 unanchored containers at the stargate in Siseide today. Upon inspecting them , I found them full of assorted loot , from mission junk to implants. It held the contents of an entire personal hangar.
I scooped the stuff as fast as I could , fearing an ambush or people coming back to claim it - but nothing happened. To this moment I am still shaken by this most unexpected find

I think jettinsoned canisters have a green flashing light while anchored containers have a red flashing light. It might be the other way around but i'm prety sure there is a color difference.

I never met a cargo can I didnt like. I found an unanchored secure can in aramachi. It has 2 Tech II improved cloaking devices. Of course I looted and ran shaking straight for the Dock. If its not nailed down Im stealing it, Cans, ore, ships, wenches, YAAAARR!

I've actually never looked closely at jetcans, but i dont think they have anchoring lights, i'll have to check that....ANYWAYS, i DO know that anchorable containers have them - Green means its unanchored, Yellow means its in the process of being anchored/unanchored, and Red means its anchored.
So next time just look at the can and check the lights and if its green scoop away.

Slightly off topic...
Anyone know how many structure hitpoints a secured can has? They take a long time to blow up .

last i checked Giant Secure Containers had along the lines of 1 million hp and shooting them in high-sec would get you busted up by concord.
With any luck you might be able to pop it before getting concorded in a well fit dreadnought... __________________________

That explains why it took nearly 1200 Thorn rockets to pop a small secure container the other night.

Unless of course you are color blind, in which case you can't tell the difference and you just have to get close enough and see if "scoop to cargo hold" appears. Dang I wish even ONE of CCP's people was color blind, so they'd stop building these color-vision-essential features into the game! ------------------ Ironfleet.com Proposal: Automated Ore Return Vehicles |

I hear you there. I'm red/green color blind, and have a heck of a time sorting things out. I really ought to change my overview settings one of these months. heh.
