Hi,
First of all let's make it clear that I am fully aware that you are unable to harvest moons in high-sec
I've been thinking about high-sec POS, in general, over the past couple of days and the fact that they are pretty rare. This leads me to think that there isn't really any decent isk to be made using them.
What you are left with is running Mobile Laboratories to do research on your blueprints, make copies and such. So is there any money in it? I know there have been, and still are pepople/corporations that rent out research slots but this seem to bring a lot of hazzle. There have already been numberous scams using researech slots for hire and even if you are 100% honest all it takes is that you are unable to logon for a couple of days (unforseen RL things such as hardware faliour, ISP going down, illness and so on) and people will start screaming spammer when they don't get their BPO's back on the agreed time.
So moving back to making isk from BPO's (let's stick to t1 since t2 BPOs aren't available to all).. is there any decent isk to be made here? Prices and marings are pressed back so you would have to go for huge quantities of BPCs to make isk because the POS is self cost money to run.
Just taking the "new" tier 3 battleships for example. These are the "newest" ships available in game yet the market is already flooded with manufacturers. Would there even be a decent profit to be made from BPC of these ships, seeing how they are "new"
Thoughts?

Edited by: esquimo leviticus on 06/03/2007 14:58:42 There is isk to be made running high sec pos, I know as i have run one.
I'll not spoil the task of finding out how, that would be far too simple a formula to copy, sometime it's better to jump in the deep end and see if you can swim. .

I make some money from high sec POS, but most of it because I occasionally take a job to set one up in Amarr space for others, and I charge 400mil for the service.
Seriously though, I have my own too. Rented research slots don't cover fuel (mainly due to my lack of advertising and thus low utilization probably- but my time is worth something too, and so I pretty much just do it for friends and word of mouth where there is enough trust we don't have to mess with collateral), and copy jobs get closer but not quite there, but the saved time on researched capital stuff made the whole thing worth it for me. The right BPOs in copy would however be worth it, as would production for long production time high markup items.

I run a high sec POS... and most of my profit comes from selling BPCs... with 15 dedicated copy slots at 75% time, I make a mint on the ship BPCs. If I make 2 million a day on each slot... that is 30m per day, 900m a month. Fuel costs 150m a month, that leaves 750m a month from selling BPCs. I can copy two battleships per slot per day, so if I sell my battleship BPCs for only 1 mill per run... i am still making a profit (they sell for more than 1 mill per run). The bigest problem... is the 1.8b for the toer it's self, and the cost of buying and researching the BPCs to begin with.
I also rent out the ME and PE slots, and it is a good additional bit of isk, but if that was my entire business I would not be doing this. The amount of work and organization, along with the investment for the towers is rather high for the profits of pure slot rental.

i've got 2 towers with a combined 30 mobile labs. it's a real pain in the ass to manage but there is money to be made if you are smart about it. learn your expenses and time management well and do a lot of math and you can figure it out.

I am currently trying to do Mobile lab research, if it works out then there will be money to be made that way. WTS HighSec POS research slots, WITH NO RISK OF SCAMMING!

Have you calculated how much of a difference in profit would be if you use the NPC copy slots?
On POS:
* If you have 15 slots * The POS slots use only 75% of the time (25% faster). * At the rate of 2 bs bpc per day per slot, lets say that's around 900 BPcs per day. * At 1M per BPC that would be 900M? * At 150M of fuel monthly... 750M profit a month?
On NPC station:
* QTY-on-NPC x 1.25 = QTY-on-POS (not sure about the math - plz check) * QTY-on-NPC x 1.25 = 900bpcs * Qty-on-NPC = 900bpcs/1.25 * Qty-on-NPC = 720bpcs * You don't pay fuel (of course, I'm not counting the costs of the NPC slots, but still) * 720M profit monthly.
So the difference is roughly 30M a month? 1m? a day. And that's counting on 150 of fuel only... Is my math right? if so, why bother using a POS as a bpc printing machine?

well I've been running my highsec pos for about 6/7 weeks. all 14 labs are 100% busy all the time (well apart from when they finish while I'm at work )
I have 2 accounts with all 6 toons playing researcher (one only temporary til the last toon finishes training). Between them they can run almost 50 labs and I have a queue of about 200 jobs)
I've made just over 8 billion turnover with just under 4 billion profit.
I think it worth it :) ------------------------------------------ Research Details

Also, a question: Do you have 15 BS BPOs? if so, wich ones you have repeated?
PS: and lets don't forget that in adition to the fuel, we also may have to consider the cost of the corp hangar required for using the remote research (IF Used). On that case, the rent may be 10k this month, and 100M in the future.
I sell battleship and battle cruiser BPCs... I also sometimes make other bpcs for sale, but those tend to be special order.
The fringe benefit is that I don't have to wait for the slot (many times there is not 15 open copy slots at any single high sec system, and spreading all of these out among various systems becomes a pain). There is a short wait, but this still delays things.
plus... I originally setup the tower to research my own BPOs (I have... allot)

Its funny you can tell that you guys are in your own little world.
My corp has 1 pos , another going up, fuel doest cost **** since the ice fields are 1 jump.
Doesnt take much to run it down to empire sell it for almost 100% profit.
That invietion might give it a boost, but it wont effect any of the player corps/ major alliances, since most of them have there own stations /pos where and most demands.

You forget one critical rule of business. Time is money. While you could mine the ice yourself, you can probably find another way to make more money in that time than it would cost to buy that fuel.

Hush! I like my cheap fuel! Don't confuse the ice miners with economics.

----- there are of course ME and PE slots that can be SIMULTANEOUSLY USED at no additional costs..................

----------------------your are forgetting PENDING TIMES which dramatically reduce the BPCs per REAL time in the lab (real time being - copy time + pending time + screwing about finding a lab to use in the first place that has LOW PENDING)----------------------------------------------also your forgetting that random ganks do occur (having lost a CA BPO myself in the past-------------------------------- no if you do the above correctly you will see its more like 100mil a month if not more........................
So the difference is roughly 30M a month? 1m? a day. And that's counting on 150 of fuel only... Is my math right? if so, why bother using a POS as a bpc printing machine?

I'm just saying that there are many variables that can greatly affect the ability to make money with a POS and people should be aware of them.
Sure, it's more efficient than NPC slots. But people often see the profit as something that can *only* be obtained with a POS. They should know all the costs of making such operations in the POS and on an NPC station.
If they are going to make the investment on the POS, the decision should be based *not* on how much the POS could make. It should be based on the *difference* from making the same thing in NPC stations.
