Hiya,
A couple of weeks ago an email was sent out, inviting former players to reactivate their accounts and come back to space. For no cost we could play for seven days with out old characters and see what has happened to EVE.
Myself I played from Medusa (alpha 6) until late 2003. I have a 12M skillpoints character without much assets left.
What would you, experienced players, of EVE recommend me and others like me to venture into to get the best possible view of what EVE has become during this week we have?
Best regards, Blackout

Why not sign up for a subscription, and join the podding spree that goes on in deep space? I hear some great battles are taking place!
Tbh. a week is a very short time. I am sure however you will see all the great improvements done since 2003. We are speaking plenty of expansions! And to mention all thats been changed or added since then, will I guess take 7 days..
All I can say is, the game get better and better with every publish/expansion! Join up! Join a corporation! And loads of fun will be awaiting you!
Good luck!

Edited by: Blackout on 06/03/2007 12:11:01 Duly noted Mr. Rising. I shall avoid your presence now and forever.
Seems like this will be a not so challenging week as space is quite big.
To the rest of you gentlemen, thank you for your kind words. May be that I extend to a "real" subscription again.

Ur old corp (noticed the name under your pic) not active anymore?
Anyways if u want to take it slow and not rush into the fray, goto hi sec and join a friendly corp there for a while. Resized tag... again... hope this pleases the tag ninjas from ccp... again :p

Nope mate. Seems old "Tarnec" is no more.
Looked into the corp assets and there are some stuff there but I don't have privs to access it. Last audit entries are from 2005...
Problem with following your advice and go hi sec and join a friendly corp would be that most of the game's progress has been in low sec areas if I am not misstaken?

Noobwaffe is a training ground type of group?
Couldn't see it mentioned in the Newbie area of the boards nor in the Corporations area.

Try Eve University to get some training in a friendly environment with a respected group of instructors.
Morning Maniac runs the corporation, so should be able to help you.
Good luck!

Edited by: TangoStar on 06/03/2007 14:01:53 Got the offer, too. Decided to give it a month.
The game is great, but it's not exactly fun when you're alone and really all you can do is run agents. So I'll see if I continue playing in a month.
I could join up with a corp, but there is this problem that none of my friends play eve or would like to. I hang out in TS with them a lot, and joining a corp would require me to be in corp TS all the time so I couldn't talk to my friends, which would suck big time.
I also have this fear that joining a corp I'd end up doing whatever corpleadership wants me to instead of doing my own thing, again. Not like I'm an egomaniac, it's just that I actually stopped playing back then because corpleadership of most corps I was in kinda demanded to be in system X all the time and participate in these boring ass fleet battles and like sit in front of the screen for 6 hours straight doing nothing but warping around and listen to fleet leaders repeating their monotonic "primary target... secondary target..." blabber.
Decided to start a new character for now. The game is actually more fun than I thought it would be when you start anew. It's kinda like a deja-vu, but better. Being a noob is actually a lot more enjoyable than it was back then (started playing at beta 3).

I posted a suggestion to CCP that had I been in their shoes I would have man an effort to gather us returning oldies into a group. Send out an automagic evemail to characters on the account welcoming us back and so on.
I will drop you guys a message in-game tonight and we might hook up.
If anyone else who are checking in from times passed reads this, drop a line below and we might get something going. Perhaps only sitting on the bench, having a drink and muttering about how good things were before and how rude the youngsters has become nowdays...

Edited by: Daemon Jax on 06/03/2007 15:39:30 So much has changed since 2003, but imo everything's better. The only thing I really miss is not being able to shoot down incoming missiles with my guns anymore, because that was just plain fun.
Defender missiles are still a waste of a slot, though.
Agent missions actually pay decent now... lots more ships too.
The market has *really* been improved.
Warp to Zero has been implemented... so you won't have to create/buy regions of instabookmarks.
I made the above post with the full understanding that I would probably be flamed for my opinions |

Edited by: Lord XSiV on 06/03/2007 22:54:25 What is your preffered playstyle? i.e. PvE, PvP, forum whining perhaps? :)
These days Eve is highly specialized, so basically forget about trying to be a jack of all trades. Well you can, just you will come to the realization that you aren't as efficient and end up getting smoked by some goofball in low sec. Many players get around this by running multiple accounts with specializations in each area to fund what they want to do.
Irregardless, figure out what is fun for you and do that. 0.0 politics has basically broken down into 2 groups, the haves and the have nots. This is reference to skill capability, however if you read a post from a have not, they would like you to believe that the game is completely corrupt and coming to an end soon.
Oh and Jita sucks.
edit note: mispelled 'accounts' gets caught rather nasty by the word filter.

Oh, I am (was?) a forum whiner of the highest level. Don't get much time in-game but I enjoy spending time on the boards. Really liked the Jade Constantine era of the EVE forums, pitty (s)he got banned.
When I mentioned doing lvl4 missions in a cruiser yesterday evening I was frowned upon. I figure there has been an increase in mission difficulty?
I do have a Stabber in-game but without bling-bling. Probably got myself killed at the end of my last playing period. I got a nice contribution from a friendly guy last night so I am aiming at getting the Stabber decently equipped and go visit some old agents of mine. If they still want to talk to me that is.
To answer your question Lord XSiV I think I will get familiar with how things work now and then hook up with a friendly crowd. Need to figure out the jump cloning business though as I am blessed with good implants and don't really fancy getting podded.
