Edited by: Wizzkidy on 06/03/2007 14:24:59 This is well known.
Never setup a "corp" owned auction with a min bid of 0 (or 1 mil)
The "tax" thing he talks about is utter crap.

Not exactly a *new* scam, but glad you didn't fall for it.
Many people still will though...sigh...

Could someone explain this for me, I just reactivated a old account from pre-RMR so I'm not up to date with contracts and so on. What makes this a scam, what does the scammer want us to do and how does this scam work?
Please excuse my english, not my native language.
Cheers,

Cheers,
You have item to sell Scammer convo's you and says he wants to really badly and will pay anything u ask He will ask you to put an auction up to his copr only He will also ask for you to put the min bid at either 0 or something very small He will also ask you to put the "buy out" price at the price you want scammer will say this is because they dont want to pay the "tax" or because its for someone else etc When you put action up the scammer only puts in the min bid and waits it out and then claims it.

Scammer claims that to 'avoid paying tax', you should put the item as a private auction to his corp with a very low start bid (1m) and set the agreed price as buyout.
He bids the minimum bid, and you have no way of retracting the auction, thus he gets the item for 1m.

Ah, ok, now I understand! I thought you had the opportunity to cancel the contract but if you can't I understand how the scam works.
Thanks!

If you want to have some fun with them, instead of putting the item they request in the contract put a piece of scrap metal in Who knows, if they are careless they might just pay the minimum bid (doubly good if the minimum is like 1 million isk!)
If he does catch it tell him it was an honest mistake and promise him you'll redo it. Make them wait like 20 minutes (tell them you gotta get dinner or something) then make another contract with a different item (exotic dancers, livestock, use your imagination). Repeat until they get completely frustrated.
Not falling for the scam is good, but scamming the scammer is better!

Could you also put the Bid for YOUR corp as well as his corp? That way if they scam you with the min bid, you can just bid higher from your own corp? Or can't you bid on your own items?
