Been trying out the 14 day free trial, so far I'm really liking it. Seems like a really cool game and I'm considering subscribing but..
I found the projectile weapons to look and sound really disappointing, love the missiles though. I was expecting something like machine gun firing visuals/sounds(even if it does the damage in one hit) but its just a strange shooting sound and barely visible line that flashes for half a second. Makes the projectile weapons seem very tame in my opinion. 
Will projectile weapons, or weapons in general, get improvements later on or something with better sounds and visuals? I mean in a purely esthetical way. |

Pretty much every aspect of eve has been improved and is continuing to be improved. Now you can zoom in on the turrets and see them fire, they also retract when warping and other things. The sounds are better than they used to be as well.
The projectiles are supposed to be just below the speed of light though, so they would look like lines if you could see them at all.
I can't say that they will be improved in a way you like, or when and how they will be changed, but at some point the devs will review everything and improvements will be made.

Let's put it this way OP...
- everything eventually gets updated or reworked, but on the DEV's timeframe.
- typically there are a few small graphical tweaks here and there ever year... with a big noticable one thrown in once a year or so.
- if you PvP you will learn to dumb down the graphics and/or zoom out so "rendering lag" is less of an issue.

And if you still, turn off & fully disable sound and compare it to eve WITH sound. The eve client does perform somewhat noticeably better than with sound activated. This, including turning off the Doppler sound effect which has a very clear activation warning in settings. |

In recent years turrets visuals as well as their sound effects have gotten upgraded. That being said CCP just issued new minimum system requirements as well as dropping support for DX 9 and therefore older OSs. That would seem to indicate that they are getting ready to make steps forward in game esthetics's. |

If you want to see how far eve has come, you can switch your client to performance mode, That is pretty much what EVE looked like 10 years ago.
