Ok so I started the 14 day trial, love the game, and am going to upgrade tonight. My question is that I'm not sure which race to start. I have heard some of the Caldari bloodlines have good starting stats and that the ships are somewhat easier to use in the missions. I initially liked the Gallente race but I heard that due to their reliance on drones later on, it can make some of the missions harder. So my question is, what race would you recommend to a complete noob and why?

My advice...
Gallente Jin-Mei :)
Then take the ancestry that gives you +2 to Int and Mem. Very balanced character. ----------------------- Yea, Tho I Walk Through The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death, I Shall Fear No Evil Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes. Yes, Caldari Achura characters can have the best balanced set of attributes (with char at 3) for all-rounder character. There's also no restriction on what race ships you can fly - there's all skills available for all races and all ships can be flown by any race character, considering he/she has the necessary skills, without any penalties.
As for drones in missions... I'm currently doing level 4 missions, and drones are _really_ useful there, since somewhere after medium turrets your tracking gets so crappy so you can hit frigates only when they're standing still :D And heavier missiles have trouble with small and fast targets as well.
As for the "which should i take" i would say only this: pick a character, whose look suits you most. Any character can become anyone, your selection only affects which npc corp will you start in, your race and bloodline and a set of starting attributes. Attributes affect how fast will you learn skills, which are dependent on these attributes (primary and secondary attributes are assigned to each skill - look in skill's info).

In regards to attributes, you can pretty much tweak any race/bloodline to get a well-balanced character. Intelligence/memory are more for industry/science and Perception/willpower are more for guns/spaceships, but make sure you don't overpower one set at the expense of the other set, because no matter what career you choose you'll still need the other attributes for some skills.
The Dominix, which is a Gallente drone boat, is a very popular ship for running missions. I use it a lot myself, specifically because drones don't use ammo or capacitor, so you don't have to reload and you can focus on tanking out your ship to the extreme. The Hyperion and Megathron are also popular mission running ships for lvl 4 missions, which are both Gallente as well. The Raven is a super popular mission running ship, and that's Caldari. ----------------------------------------------------

Missile or drone boats are really excellent for missions, as the only thing that matters is really the distance from you to the target to see if you enemy is in range. While the other weapons are viable, you have have to deal with tracking issues as well as the electronic warfare the NPCs can use on you, but they can be useful for dealing with them at long-range.
As for what race to be, just pick one with balanced attributes if you're unsure of what you want to be in the long-run, and then pick one with a nice portrait. You're going to be staring at it for a long time - welcome !

The Typhoon is a good mission boat too. Drones, missiles AND guns.
You might also want to pick your chars race for role playing reasons if that is your thing.

If u have played the 14 days trail u prolly know what u want to do in the game (Industy or combat) after that pick a bloodline that have good atributes (int and mem for industry, prep and will for combat) as for what race do as Sonya said pick the one that look apeel to u.

Just don't bother putting much in Charisma as I'm pretty sure it makes very little difference to anything in EVE atm...even trading etc.

Charisma is also required in Leadership skills, so in long run (larger gang ops) it's good not to have that in lowest possible value (although cha+4 implants are quite cheap). -- V.H. |

Maybe I've mis-read this. You've already been playing for 14 days? If so, you've already put 14 days into your current character. I would say use it, whatever it is. If you re-roll, you'll be 14 days behind the eight-ball. Race only matters when you're creating a brand new character for attribute reasons. It has nothing to do with in game mechanics. I have a Caldari character that flies Gallente ships and uses t2 drones on it.
