So I went to 0.0 space for the first time and I guess it just seems empty. There were very few to no stations and almost no people. What do people do in 0.0 space? Where's the action?

Go to HED-GP (or any other chokepoint) for a day and you'll get all the action and podding you need for a lifetime.
Help me help you. |

They rat, mine, build nations, empires and war. Or they roam around looking for trouble.
Trust me, no part of 0.0 is quiet for long. If you stay there and move around high travelled areas, be prepared to lose ships on a regular basis. ;)

There are a few areas of 0.0 that are busier than others, if you looking for action then head to any of the following systems: HLW , HED-GP, N-RAEL, FAT-6, 0-W77.
Be warned though you wont be able to dock in ay player controlled station, so u might want to head to a region with NPC stations so you can dock to refit/repair/use the market or maybe do some missions. For this isd reccomend the Curse region as its NPC controlled , has plenty of people in the area and also has some mission agents if you want to do them. HLW- is probably a nice place to start and its pretty close to empire(Keberz, but nearest empire station is Agil).
Happy Travels.

Well I found some action just got podded by a guy in a Drake before I knew what was happening. Two questions, first I know when dealing with turrets that a smaller faster ship may compete with a bigger stronger ship buy moving fast and making it's self hard to hit, but does that work with missals, and how important important is range? Second, do you take a security status hit for attacking someone in 0.0?

First, If you fly fast enough, large missiles wont hit you. Look up the velocity and flight time on some missiles to find out if you can outrun them, and what range they have. Second, No, you dont take any sec hits for killin' in 0.0. ______________

The other value to look for is the explosion velocity. If you can't outrun the missile velocity then maybe you can outrun the explosion so you take less damage.
This is generally only possibly with torpedos though.

The speed on all missals is in the thousands so straight out outrunning them is impossible, plus the larger missals have a larger range then my weapons do. Can I outrun part of the missal damage if my speed is somewhat lower like 500 vs. 750?

Not at all, even a fast battleship can outrun all missiles when properly fitted.

Yup. Outrunning the damage is usually much easier than outrunning the missile itself.

The vast majority of 0.0 space is relatively empty. Pure Blind is another region that has several NPC stations (though still few) that isn't widely patrolled by any one force. Piracy naturally picks up near systems with NPC stations, and choke points are often camped.
If you are smart, and mind your map/local, you can stay alive for a good long while. Use Ombrey's maps (in the Guide sticky) to get an idea of the "true" security of the systems you want to visit. The lower the number, the more deadly the rats tend to be. Ratting in 0.0 can be rather profitable, and can be done with fewer skillpoints than you may think!
Best thing to do is get involved with a 0.0 corp and make the most of the opportunities available. Spend some time out there, lose a few more ships, before giving up on it!

2 fun things to do when in 0.0:
Try to survive Make lots of money -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

If a smaller ship can use it's speed to compete with bigger ships, how do yo tell if you've got a chance in a fight?

this is Eve, you're never sure you're the winner until after the fight start, and even then you can have some nasty surprises.
Try to know your ship, it's vulnerabilities and strenghts, after that you'll know what ships are most likely to get you in trouble...but this is not an exact science because ther are lots of valid setups to the some kind of ship.
The best way to learn this is to loose a few ships and there are lots of teachers out there

And that, IMHO, is completely absurd. Fast frigates outrunning missiles is sensible, but a floating tub faster than missiles.... Next up, the Nano-Titan!
P.S. Hope you found a linux compatible with your hardware, DS (: ....
