So I'd like to get into PvP but I really cannot commit to 24/7 availability and constant voice monitoring. I've noticed that most corps want you to be available at the drop of a hat and failing to do so will result in being kicked. I understand the necessity of this for war purposes but I just want to jump in and have some light-hearted fun and / or roam about to ruin someones day now and then.
What are my best options for this? FW? RvB? Are there some less rigid corps out their who are willing to cater for people that actually have commitments outside of EVE? |

Eh, I find that very few corps are actually that silly about being on fleets. To my knowledge, it's only really a thing if you happen to be ratting during an important fleet. There're a lot of choices really. RvB and FW are solid ones yeah. |

Any corp or alliance actually worth joining will understand that Real Life(tm) sometimes has to take priority over intarwebz spaceships.
So long as you're active in your corp and make an effort to go on corp/alliance ops, you'll be fine.
That said, if you're logged on and a fleet gets called and you continue ratting/exploring/whatever instead of helping your corp buddies, you may be walking a thin line.

Just because you had a bad experience with ONE corporation doesn't mean ALL your corporation experiences are going to go the same way. Buck up! There's literally thousands of corporations! Give another one a shot! Then another. Then another. If they ALL work out like this one did, come back here and call me a big fat liar! I swear. It won't hurt my feelings.
You can't join our corporation, however. We expect you to be on all the time, be in voice with your mouth shut and be ready at the drop of a hat!
If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.

Spectre Fleet and Bombers Bar do public roams, turn up/go whenever you want. Megacorps like Brave Newbies / Pandemic Horde / Karmafleet are p low commitment.

Sounds like you just got a bad corp, honestly. Most of the ones I have been in are not that draconian about things.
Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you.

Im going to echo what others have said and that you got a crappy corp( one that apparently doesnt have a life and thinks you shouldnt either).
Im in an actual pvp corp, in a pvp alliance. I get in 2-5 fleets a week depending on my availability and that is enough activity. a few ops are posted on the forums, most are broadcast over jabber which i have on my phone. If im available, ill log in, if not, i dont.
Most corps biggest problem are people who rat and mine during fleet ops. If you can be logged in to mine and rat, you can be logged in to help keep the space you are mining and ratting in. Thats what most corps have issues with. |

RvB from what you ask. It would be a place to do what you want, when. Get time to choose. |

As others already explained, if you're part of a group that owns or governs space then you're expected to help defending it when you're logged in. Freeloaders result in more freeloaders, resentment and ultimately a lot of trouble. If you want to be able to have the choice to fleet up or do your own things at that time, whatever it may be, then you simply can't be part of a group like that.
So you should start looking at groups who live in an area that can't be taken like low sec or NPC 0.0, there you might find groups that take it all a bit less serious in that regard. |
