I've noticed a lot of people have no standings with anyone, meaning they've never ran a mission, as you gain or loose standings with the involved parties or whatever. These people are generally traders or miners from what I can tell, (Intaki or Deteis). Now I think the reason they don't run missions, is so that they don't loose faction with anyone so they can get good deals anywhere when trading or selling ore. On the flip side, I imagine these people don't run missions because they are alts, or that they have enough money from a corp, friend, or past characters, and don't need too.
My question is witch side of the coin is true here? Both? Neither?
My ultimate question is, should I run missions if I'm a miner? I've seen that if you get above 8.0 standing with a faction, their stations wont take anything you reprocess with them. But if I do missions, I loose faction with Gallente, and it may be harder to trade with them?
Again, two sides to each coin here, and I'm unsure of both. Please help me out.

1) It is a bit of both.
2) You should run missions as a miner to get standings. A Corp standing of 6.67 will get you tax free refining. Since part of mining is selling your harvest, you might want to make an effort to balance your faction standings as they affect broker fees. By running courier missions you can avoid negitive standings with pirate factions, and by carefully balancing the important missions that you complete, you can get positive standings with all the empire factions.

All youre assumptions are correct.
And about your question: you cant have the best of all worlds. If you want a real good refine you need good standing towards that faction the station belongs to.
