I tried looking up threads dealing with this and they must be buried if they exist at all. I could only find one dealing with "black space."
With the graphic upgrade and revamp of the code coming down the pipe I figured now and not later is the time to bring this up. I've been playing EVE for awhile now and like most of you it wasn't too long into starting to play this game, say a few days, that I had seen all the system backgrounds in EVE. While they change color from system to system and the nebulas are still very pretty, they are everywhere, in every system without end.
In any game there is repeating textures to a point but in EVE you never have any geographical idea of where you are in the galaxy. It all looks the same.
I would like to see a serious variety in backgrounds in EVE. There are hundreds of space oddities, anomalies and natural phenomenon that can be added to the universe. Go to any space related science mag, or look online and they are as beautiful as they are different in size shape and color. I want to see a great variety of system backgrounds. Not nebulas and huge gas clouds everywhere. How about some systems that are mostly if not all black space? Black space would be nice peppered in there. Maybe show some nebulas that currently take up the whole background bubble at a distance when you're still a few jumps out? How about giving different looks and feels to the different regions? How about giving me a great reason to travel this game world and see the sights?
In summary I'd like the future EVE to address the endless gas cloud nebula background needing less repitition and have a larger variety of space objects to paint into backgrounds, giving systems their own identities finally. Once the graphic upgrade is done we're stuck with what they give us for another 5 years.

Agreed. Not a huge priority for me, but imo it needs attention at some point in the future.

I agree that it would be nice to see some variety, not just in the backgrounds but within the solar system itself. Some ideas:
- Different star types in different systems. Right now they are different colours but maybe having some red giants (as big as the orbit of the inner planets), red dwarfs, blue super-giants, etc. would be cool.
- Multiple-star systems. There are more binary+ star systems in our real-life galaxy than single-star systems.
- Planetary nebulae. These are spherical shells of gas blown off by a dying star, with the remains of the star in the center - see the Ring Nebula or Eskimo Nebula for an idea of what I mean.
- Neutron stars or black holes with accretion disks and relativistic jets. (If you look carefully you can see my amateur-astronomy big-word nerdiness shining through the veneer of steely-eyed dangerousness I normally wear)
I have zero idea if these sorts of things would be feasible or even possible with the technology in the game, I'm just throwing out some ideas of things I would like to see. Even a cursory google-search nets tons of ideas... see this page for example.
As an aside, it would be a lot of fun story-wise if the sun in Jita went supernova or something and we got to participate in the evacuation, looting, and eventual reclamation :) ___________ Composed primarily of meat.

According to the back story, every system with a stargate is supposed to be binary, because stargates operate on the interaction of two suns. --------------------------------------------------

Technically according to the backstory every system you see is a binary system, because they're the only ones that can support jump gates. The second star is obviously invisible
/edit Booo I wanted to be first to mention that, it gets mentioned EVERY time someone suggests binary systems
Anyone remember?
