Dear Ms Akahoshi
The word "Khaldari" in my case is being used to describe myself (I am a "Khaldari"). I believe many individuals use the term as an informal or slang. Since I can find no previous reference, I will do my best to define the word as I understand its meaning:
- [Formal] A person of mixed Caldari and Khanid ancestry
- [Slang] A citizen of the Khanid Kingdom of Caldari origin or of Caldari ancestry
In response to O-SYN, my understanding of the law (Concord / SCC and Royal Law) is that such words may be registered as "trade names", and that (in a grossly simplified explanation of) allows me within the law to use the word, royalty free, except when explicitly using it to trade with.
I do not currently, and never have, used the word "Khaldari" to trade under, nor used it to trade under on behalf of or as an employee of either my current employers nor any of my previous employers.
Pending legal consultation, KAG will be ammending all publications and literature produced by KAG to explicitly or by way of context remove any link to the "Khaldari" trade-name as is the exclusive right of Celes Tenebrae to use.
Yours Sincerely, Spoon Thumb, CEO Khanid Aerospace Group

Originally by: Shintoko Akahoshi Dear Sir:
Omerta Syndicate has been in continuous operation for many years, including operations as a CONCORD registered corporation, and has invested significant time and resources into promoting our biotechnical research products. One of our primary researchers, Celes Tenebrae, has used the trademark "Khaldari" in association with her research for some time now, and has registered this trademark with the SEC.
It has recently come to our attention that Spoon Thumb, representing Khanid Provisional Authority, has been using a variation of this trademark in their recruiting campaign, and that this comprises trademark infringement and causes a likelihood of confusion in the marketplace. As Celes Tenebrae is known for this trademark, it is clear that your use of "Khaldari" will be associated with our corporation and research by the consuming public and that you are using the phrase in a false and misleading manner. In light of the foregoing, Omerta Syndicate demands that Spoon Thumb and Khanid Provisional Authority immediately cease and desist from all further use of the phrase. We demand a written response within fifteen (15) days of this letter indicating Spoon Thumb and Khanid Provisional Authority's compliance with the foregoing demands. Failure to respond will result in our seeking further legal action.
This letter is not intended to be a full statement of the facts in this matter, nor is it a waiver of any of Celes Tenebrae or Omerta Syndicate's rights or remedies, whether at law or equity, or those of any respective parties, all of which are hereby expressly reserved.
We look forward to your immediate response.
Very truly yours, Shintoko Akahoshi Omerta Syndicate

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, Thumb-haan. It is not, however, use of this term by Khanid Provincial Authority that we object to, but rather your use of the term for the purposes of advertising your research services. If you direct your attention to your quoted GalNet tagline:

The proximity of the term "Khaldari" with your advertisement of research services constitutes a clear and gross violation of Doctor Tenebrae's trademark, considering her standing as a researcher. In the absense of any other claim to the trademark, this would be sufficient reason for legal action.
In researching the term, however, I have found no use of it other than by Doctor Tenebrae and yourself. It is clear, then, that your use of the term does not fall under a common language clause, and that Doctor Tenebrae has reason to deny your use of her trademark here.
We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.

How do you plan to enforce such trademark. Out here if you want somthing, you buy it, steal it or take it...by force if necessary. Khaldari...nice word, I'll take it. Now that it is also mine because I have taken it as such, I have decided to share it with Mr. Spoon Thumb. Good luck enforcing your trademark, any protestation on your part will only further ensure the spread of the use of Khaldari by other interested parties.

Hence the prefix "Bloodline:" to "Khaldari" to avoid confusion (as alluded to in my initial response). The initial use of the simpler version "Khaldari" has since been withdrawn

Doctor Tenebrae's trademark
And here in lies the problem. A trademark would indeed be illegal to use in such context. Trade name is another matter

With all due respect (and not wanting to prejudice any future legal proceedings) you cannot prove a negative. Merely disprove by way of case (as any good scientist should know):
(The photograph was taken today, but all involved parties will testify that the title "Khaldari" was indeed used (as an affectionate and informal descriptor) for this individual before todays date)
Further log files and supporting evidence are available upon request

As this has devolved into a legal matter, the proceedings are requested to be brought to the attention of our Viceroys Office. As they are the speakers for the Authority, and they are responsible for mitigating this very type of disagreement.
Mrs Akahoshi, if such a thing cannot be resolved in a private dispute between Mr. Thumb and the Syndicate, please take it before the Viceroys office.
Thank You.
Sieesa Morgan.

It's just another term for bastard.
God created each race and bloodline for a special purpose. Crossbreeding is against nature.
Some lesser races seem to believe they can improve the value of their peoples genes by crossbreeding with Amarrians. We all know the stories of Minmatar rapists that lurk in the dark looking for pure amarrian girls with the purpose to create such a new breed.
- the lesser blood is still running through their veins. - the contingent of amarrian blood became poisened and worthless. - bastards no longer fulfill the purpose given by God. Because of this reasons the status of a bastard is lower than the status of both of its parents.

It would seem not only that a word can be taken by anyone but it's definition changed by anyone. Sounds fair to me and since it now means bastard I forthwith denounce my claim to this word. I don't want it anymore.

Such prejudice meerly gives the enemies of the empire more reason to attack it. Are the Ammatar of lower value as a people than Amarrians? Or should they too be embraced as brothers under the veil of faith they share with you? Do not be so quick to denounce your allies, and even your own brothers and sisters in faith. God led the Ni Kunni, Khanid, and Ammatar to the path of the Empire and they have so far proven their worth and faith. Through such arrogance you may as well be doubting God's will. ---

It's amazing how much this sounds like the opinion of certain members of my mother's family. Of course, being good Achura, they're far too polite to actually say such things within my hearing.

Some confusion, Khaldari does not necessarily mean of mixed ancestry. The use of the word bloodline is confusing because it would imply a racial meaning to the word. For many like Arderich, the word means exactly that, an impure mix of Caldari and Khanid. But all to often it is applied to those who have adopted the Kingdom's culture but are still pure bred Caldari, since they look and act so similarly to their mixed-race cousins.
Also I should point out that this is a word used in my experience in the Kingdom, and might have a different local meaning elsewhere in the New Eden cluster

Yes, of course and without any doubt. The true Amarr are Gods chosen people. Only the true Amarr. Ammatar/Nefantar are Minmatar. The notion they could ever reach an equal value is absurd. With hard and dedicated service to God they could reach a status where they could become considered as free citizens of the Amarr Empire - in theory. Until this comes true they should not be 'embraced as brothers' but isolated.
Originally by: Spoon Thumb Some confusion, Khaldari does not necessarily mean of mixed ancestry.
That's ok. I made my comment based on the definition of an 'impure mix of Caldari and Khanid' but not on the definition 'A citizen of the Khanid Kingdom of Caldari orign or of Caldari ancestry'. The term Khaldari can be used for two different things. The word bastard applies only to one of this two definitions.

Interbreeding in the genetic sense is healthy. For one thing, it creates more physically healthy children than doctrines of genetic purity do.
More importantly, if it is cultivated correctly, it serves to distance the children emotionally from their planetary cultures of origin. It fortifies them against the social disease of dirtling nostalgia and in many cases helps to gravitate them towards a life under the star and jagged circle. It is easy to assimilate them into an Astropolitan mindset.
I have often wished my blood was mixed, myself. I think it would have helped me reach my current perspective much sooner.

First of all, I do not engage in legal proceedings with livestock and rodents...
Second, Spooneh did actually not cite the source of this word - which is me, been using this term for almost a year, denoting a Caldari friend of Khanid - an honorary term, like Little Lordling honors the Khanidian race...so too does Khaldari honor a Caldarian, and I deem it an honorary term for those of the latter race who show service to the Kingdom of Khanid.
If these legal prattlings merited anything other than livestock chewing their cud, I would site multiple sources validating these claims...

The term has always been used in a friendly manor here in the Kingdom. In my personal experience almost exclusively used to describe our adoptive Caldari friends who have taken residence with us here in the outlands.
....But don't listen to Arderich; it takes only the mere thought of impropriety for him to get his panties in a bunch and to froth at the mouth with fire and brimstone, reigning damnation on all who will give the old man an audience.
But, I do have to point out that often times those who assail something publicly the loudest and in the most supercilious of manors are often the ones hiding something related to that very same topic.
The politician that praises family values the loudest in public and condemns infidelity always ends up being the one with a mistress and an illegitimate child, yes? I'll let you infer your own conclusions about his potential ancestry based on his venom for those not "of the blood."
But seriously Arderich, and for the record, if one really is superior then they have no need to advertise it. You know this! You should be content in that knowledge, and use the virtue of being one of the chosen in order to spread that to others. Be a voice inviting others up to your position, rather than laughing and sneering at them from on high. It seems you are like so many of our race these days that seem content to focus only on the judgment and condemnation, rather than the chance to bring those same peoples up to our heights.
But I'm sure you weren't trying to sound like a cranky old man, the mistake must be mine....
Scathing replies are certainly welcome, should you feel the need.
