Just started playing this game and now i have bought a thrasher. What is the best loadout (weapons and shields) for this ship. I'm still playing the missions i get from the agents, but get sended out to 0.5 level securety places. Just want to protect myself from foes.
Thanks!

Your best bet is to check the Ships and Modules -- Ship Setup Index part of these forums. Most ships and various setups for them are discussed in there.
Of course a lot will depend on your skills to determine what you can actually fit on there (many of the discussed ship setups assume perfect or near perfect fitting skills as well as access to T2 equipment).
Still, for staters and taken from the link I provided you here is a setup for a Thrasher. Follow the link and look up the Thrasher for more options.
(Not sure if the following setup requires named/T2 stuff to make the fit work but should at least give you an idea of what you should be looking at)
High: 7x 250mm light 'scout' artillery I [Lead S] - Named rocket launcher [any rockets, defenders] Med : Named frig AB - Named webber - Sheild booster Low : 2x Gyrostabilizer II

If I may suggest something... don't loose too much time and money on the Trasher. Yes it has a lot of theoretical firepower, but very few low and med slows to sustain it, and a poor shield/tank.
You'll soon find out that a good frigate (like the Rifter) or cruiser (which is easy to train in a few days, something like the Rupture) are much more efficient, depending on your fighting style.
Don't get me wrong, the Trasher can be a very good ship, but requires quite a lot of skills to be efficient.
Just my two cents. ---------------------------------------------- Bionesis Technologies

Any destroyer with even a poor (but long range) fitting can do lvl 1 missions extremely fast (if you don't loot, to run for standing and start lvl 2 missions with a cruiser afterwards for example).
Any gunnery skill you learn to use the thrasher correctly will help you for future as many gunnery skills affects all guns (like motion prediction or sharpshooting) and you have a prerequired level of small gun for bigger guns. Also, if you wish to head for tech 2 frigates, it's no loss. Just limit your destroyer skill to 3, if you won't spend too much time with it and soon upgrade to cruisers.
Destroyers are good "gunnery tutorial" ships and you can learn much about how modules and skills bonuses on guns works when using it and trying several fits. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Flying Vexor and Ishkur, Myrmidon was too slow, got ganked by 3 BC and a Megathron...

Edited by: Chigger Troutslayer on 08/03/2007 13:28:17 Edited by: Chigger Troutslayer on 08/03/2007 13:27:39 I used my Thrasher for level 1's with ease: Looking at Quickfit the setup I had was:
Highs 7X 280MM Howitzer Arty I (Fusion S) 1X Standard Missile Launcher (Pirahnas)
Mid
2X Sensor Booster I 1X Samll Shield Extender
Lo 1X PDU I 1X RCU I
Not much of a tank but you don't need much for level 1's. With the 2 sensor boosters you can shoot most of the rats before they can shoot you. With more skills the PDU and RCU may not be neeeded. Substitute plates and an Armor Repaire if you can fit.
Now that I'm on to level 2's I've converted it to a slavage boat. 3X slavagers, a couple tractor beams, and a afterburner. It also has room for a couple guns and the missile launcher so you can even rat and salvage as you go down to .5 space pretty well. I messed around with it in .3-.4 and it doesn't do so well. Still salvage with it but I use a Rifter (smaller/faster/harder to hit/cheaper) to kill the rats first. It just can't stand up to cruiser/BC rats very long especially with 5 hi slots dedicated to slavage.

Edited by: Daftex Muleson on 08/03/2007 13:32:36 Personally, I'd say you were gonna have a harder time in a Thrasher than you would in a Rifter although, maybe if you have low skills, a Thrasher may be the better option....but then again, you'll struggle with fittings. Once you get your shield skills, gunnery, engineering and mechanic skills up better tho, try a passively shield tanked rifter
The problem is the destroyer's are more easily hit than a Frigate due to their signature radius.
Rifter has a base sig radius of 35m Thrasher's base sig is 75m
If you come up against an enemy with missiles, you're gonna get hit every time. In a frigate, your speed and low sig radius means you can usually avoid quite a bit, if not all (in the case of heavy missiles) missile damage while orbiting close in and beating hell out of the enemy with your 150mm's. Also, a frigs speed will mean a lot of the enemy ships have a job tracking you and getting a good hit.
You also have 1 less low slot in a Thrasher. OK, you got loads of guns but 1 less low slot can make fittings difficult and restricts your options.
If you wanna go with the Thrasher tho, check out the ship fittings as linked above. But, unless your skills are pretty good, you'll have no chance of fitting a full rack of guns as well as decent shield or armour protection.

I really like destroyers. Infact I even made a post about them yesterday.
Anyway... to take advantage of the bonus offerred by a thrasher you need to mount small projectile turrets. Autocannons will be easier to mount but you loose out on the range and range is what makes destroyers in my eyes so artillery is your friend.
For my thrasher setup I used 6 x 250mm artillery cannons and filled them with ammo that offered me a range bonus , 1 x 200mm autocannon and a rocket launcher.
The artillery cannons allowed me to pick off pirate 25kms away. The problem is the artillery cannons have a difficult time hitting things up close so the rocket launcher and autocannon really helps.
For the mids I fit an AB (cold-gas I think), shield extender and a shield booster. I can not remember what was in the lows.
Hope that helps.

I was just playing around with a fitting plan for a Thrasher. It's pretty close to what I used to fly when I was using one for lvl 1's.
5xArtillery howitzers (whatever size you can fit, I can use 280's) 1xmissile launcher 1xsalvager 1xsmall tractor beam
1xMedium shield extender (this is basically the whole tank, and should be more than adequate for lvl 1's)
2xReactor control units (needed to fit the medium shield extender)
I have a little room left for power and cpu, but you may not. You could also fit multiple small extenders, but the single medium is worth about 850 shield points which would take a long time for a frigate to rat to chew through.
