of a carebear mission runner? (Ok, bad tootsie roll pop commercial reference, sue me)
So I've decided to chronicle my little adventure of moving into a low sec system with some fat L4 agents and killing everything on the scanner. But more importantly I'm interested in just how long it will take before this extremely busy bustling system filled to the brim with mission runners becomes a complete ghost town, with little tumbleweeds blowing down the halls of the stations.
The first day that I flew in to scout the area I almost started salivating at the sight of all the fat mission runners and their ships. I could barely contain myself. It was like letting a puppy loose in a fire hydrant factory. I quickly bookmarked all the requisite stuff and and then started in on some L1 missions to get enough standing to run some missions.
Training a few social skills (ewww! non combat skills! ick!) and a few L1 missions later and I have enough standings to use the L1 agent in the system. Best idea ever! Now I have a great collection of off-plane BMs! \o/
So at this point I can't get moved in fast enough. It takes me a while to lug in all my crap, but I finally get all my ships and ammo installed in one of the stations (two ships anyway). I undock in my Arazu and go poke around a bit to see what I can scope out.
<cue Jaws music> I'm almost beside myself with glee as I find a MINING OP in a belt. I'm not used to this. A mining op? In low sec?! Where I can KILL IT?!?!?! OMG! Where I'm from (home lowsec system) there's no such thing as mining ops to kill. Ever.
So I warp into the belt and begin creeping into position. I have 2 scrams and 3 damps, and there's a covetor, two retrievers, an iteron 5 and a drake guarding the whole thing. I change my mind and warp out to swap from spike to antimatter for more dps and warp back in...
Into position, I uncloak and begin locking. Lock the retrievers first, begin shooting, get a point each on the iteron and covetor and then put all three damps on the drake. I wasn't too worried about killing the drake as the Arazu has crap DPS, even with my maxed skills.
The two retrievers pop before they can even warp out. The covetor dies next, followed quickly by the iteron. The drake warps off like a sissy. Oh well, more loot for me.
Mostly garbage loot. I guess no one hauls in belts with expander IIs any more? I got 3 strip miners out of the deal, all 3 on the covetor blew up . I always blow up all the good loot.
I sit around a bit and sure enough one of the guys warps in with a badger Mk II. I check the scanner and wonder about other recons etc. but decide to go for it. So I uncloak and pop the Badger too. Crap loot again, but hey, it's good target practice.
All this, and I've only been hunting in the system for about fifteen minutes. I think I'm going to like it here.
Next twentyfour hours we killed: too many battleships to count, a nighthawk, ransomed an absolution, lots of drakes, a few harbingers, lots of t1 cruisers, a few destroyers and the occasional hauler.
Haven't dropped any faction BSs or faction fit ships yet, but hey, we've only been in-system a day or so. I'm wondering if these guys are going to fight or run. We'll see.

Now that's how you do it
I think it will take months of milking to have this system achieve legendary pirate hunting ground status. Even then , there would still be a steady flow of clueless mission runners. Who in their right mind would do it in Egghelende ? Yet they keep coming

No gate camping (yet). Just belts and the occasional probed mission runner. But everything that I've been able to lock, I've been able to kill. Fully faction fit Absolution was a bugger however. I ransomed that one at half armor vs. taking another 35 minutes to kill it lol.

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 08/03/2007 22:47:42 So how did you go about probing down some mission runners, i've tried to do this a few times but my probes just cant seem to penetrate whatever field CCP put in to protect mission runners.
How long will it take to turn into a ghost town? Very very quickly unless its a system macro hauler mission runners pass through on a regular basis but then all you get to show for it is fertelizer. Fortunatly it only take a few days of being absent for the system to fill up again.
And low sec mining ops arent that uncommon, although to find one with only a drake guarding it is a tad bit odd from my experinces. Normally when i come across a mining op in low sec they atleast have the sense to have some battleships about and some sensor dampers to let the miners warp out before they pop. Good find with that one, shame the loot sucked so bad. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

Just a quick update:
Managed to pop a nighthawk, apoc and geddon in the same engagement with only two ships (tackler cruiser and a bs for some dps), and nabbed a raven in a belt, along with his mining alt in a cormorant (lol!) and podded both, then managed to pop his badger mk2 as he came back to loot his wreck, and guess what? He had ANOTHER full T2 raven tank in the badger, but IT ALL BLEW UP!!! Oh well, lol!
I'll have a more entertaining story for everyone a little later.

It's a shame people don't have the intelligence to try to double fit. If you're running low sec missions ALWAYS take a ship capable of handling pvp, or at least a WCS. Most pvp setups can handle missions and, if not, you can always take a buddy or two. Once lv 5s come out they'll all be in low sec, at least probably, so you wont be saved by the .5 or .6 lvl 4 agent anymore and, because of this, people will be forced to learn how to double fit.

EDIT: As for low sec miners....bring some danged protection. Grab a couple of friends in BCs and BSs and head out. Hell, if your friends have cloaking deviced you can even bait pirates, which is pretty fun.
A ton of mission runners have been fitting WCS. Over 80% of my kills had at least one, and something like 30-40% had two and some three or four. It's retarded. They still die. I've just been flying in with a TON of points. (Hows 8 points sound?)
One of these days maybe they'll stop fitting for running away and try and do something that takes some brainpower, like fighting. Life Begins at -10!

For once I may actually agree with a pirate, thats a first. People need to stop arseing around and get a good fitting that works for pvp. Fact is, pretty much 90% of pvp fittings will do fine in missions. I always keep my Myrmidon fitted for pvp, even in high sec. Lv4s can be a bit difficult to set up a double tank with but, in all honesty, if people used their brains they'd figure it out.

Hooo boy, bad day at the office today...
Lost a very nice Hype (8x neutron2s, all t2 mids, domi 30km disruptor, 2x LAR T2, 2x shadow serp mag stabs, t2 dc, t2 eanm, t2 ogers, 3x grid rigs etc...
and this was *after* losing a faction fit Lachesis lol. My ass still hurts...
The Hype loss: I'm all alone in the system, lachesis pilot pops into local and starts flitting around the station. I undock, he aggros, I sit there for a minute, figure it's a trap but w/e I'm super bored.
I get a little far off the station... local goes up by seven or so, in jumps a Scorp, 3x T2 Dominix, a Taranis and an Arbitrator. This is in addition to the Lachesis I have on me. I'm ECMed, nossed/neutralized/damped and droned.
I made it back to the station, having deagressed about 2 minutes ago, but die before I can dock due to the insane lag of having 6+ sets of drones on me. Oh well. I was dumb to sit there and take the obvious bait.
The really sad part is that I'll probably never get to kill any of these guys for revenge. I'm sure they'll never stay and fight if the odds are remotely even, and I'm sure they'll never even jump into the system unless they can find a solo pirate to gank. They ran as soon as a second corp mate of mine showed up in local. That's ok though, I'll just take it out on the mission runners.
The Lachesis, well that was my fault too lol. Tried to tackle a Maelstrom and an Abaddon solo while my buddy warped in in a Drake. Three sensor damps on the Maelstrom and it didn't even put a dent in him lock-range/time wise. Sensor booster stacking compared to damp stacking needs to have a serious look.
The worst part is that I didn't even get a locking indicator (i.e. that he was locked on to me) on my overhead. I just started taking hits from his T2 arty. I went down quick. Lachesis don't have much of a tank.
I've spent the rest of the day just flying around and picking up new ships and parts. The Hype was probably close to a bill, maybe even a bill, and the Lachesis, probably around 500m or so. I need to get back to ransoming to put myself back in the black lol.
My ass still hurts.

The same could be said for Warp Disrupters/Stabs if you wanna be totally honest.
Stacking anything/everything needs to be looked at.
As for people saying you can mission "with no problems" in a pVp setup...maybe other races can, Calds have a hard time doing it, I assure you. Assuming you arent talking lvl 2's.

BLOB ORAMA!
Note to self: don't sit in belt baiting for a fight when local is at 18 and you have three friendlies, including yourself. My group: T2 fit domi (me), T1 fit domi, T1 fit blackbird. Them: T2 Mega, T2 blaster rokh, T2 Hyperion, 2x T2 ravens, 2x T2 Drakes, Cyclone, and an ubar stabbed Prophecy (scout?).
Result: I killed the Cyclone and one of the Drakes. They popped my buddies T1 domi, and then eventually got my support in the blackbird. I finally got fed up with being ECMed to death by more racial gallente ECM than I care to think about and warped out with the blaster Rokh and the second Drake still on my ass. Everyone else warped out and ran when they got to about half structure. Some even came back after repairing in the station. I think most of the BSs had at least two good runs on us.
Was pretty lame having 2 BS vs. 5 BS and 3 (4?)BC, but that's what you have to deal with to get a fight from anti-pirates these days. Even that took tons of goading and them refitting every ship they had for racial ECM etc.
At least this wasn't as lame as that 10v1 gank squad from the other day lol.

Been trying to find mission runners using recon probes for three solid days now. Total amount of mission runners found using recon probes: 0. It's really frustrating to know that if you have to use a Recon probe to go after a mission runner, you might as well not even undock.

So there I was, cloaked and probing... Abaddon and Tempest on my scanner, hoping beyond hope that I might beat the odds and actually probe something out... a ship, a drone... anything! \o/ Woohoo! I get a drone! But is it in the right position of the mission llamas? Noo.. Damn. Reprobing...
<1 hour later> still probing... ok, enough of this. I switch to regular scan probes and start warping around like an annoyed bee. Back and forth. I land within 200m km of the mission llamas (MLs for short). \o/ out pops a probe. I sit there and watch the timer tick down... I scan constantly, waiting to see if they notice the probe in their virtual laps and try to make a run for it... nope. They sit there, oblivious to the doom that is coming their way...
I fire up my tackler and prepare to head out. One of my good buddies is in the system and he joins me for some much needed DPS. I get the Absolution probed out on the second or third go around (the regular scan probes are *far* from perfect, and I have nearly perfect skills). I warp in my tackling cruiser, get both the Tempest and the Absolution scrammed. We go to town on the Tempest. It falls in short order. I start in on the Absolution. My buddy is wailing on it. It's going down slowly. I convo for a ransom. He tells me to F*** off. I laugh and continue to shred his ship (a very small amount at a time, those Absolutions are insanely tough).
I have his Tempest pod scrammed. The Absolution pops. I try to scram that pod, but no dice. So I convo him and ask him about his Tempest pilot's pod. He swears at me and closes the convo (lol). Good stuff. Then he convos me back and tells me that I have 24 hours to return the ships and modules or pay him the ISK that it is worth and 'all will be forgiven'. LOL? Some people are just way too arrogant.
Shortly afterwards I find an Abaddon. I sneak up on him, tackle him and my buddy and I start blasting the crap outta his ship. He's into half struc, and lo and behold! He EJECTS! CHA CHING! New fully T2 fitted Abaddon for us! He musta had some pretty spiffy implants to just toss a ship like that. 100m+ in rigs to boot. We just reprocessed the whole ship, rigs and mods and everything and split the minerals.
Just kidding.
After getting my ass kicked yesterday and losing so much ISK, it feels good to torture someone else for a bit lol. Now where did that Navy Raven pilot run off to?....
