Edited by: Replicant Amara on 18/12/2003 20:02:01 I find the deep core mining very interesting topic... With current NPC set ups in the o.o belts and some reports that the rare minerals are next to arknor but almost impossible for miners and indi to mine there without being destroyed... it comes to my attention the elite frigates... e.g. "Hyena" form amar race (other races have their own... the description is:Hull: Probe ClassDeveloper: Thukker Mix Role: Mining FrigateFrigateSpecial: -90% less cpu need for Deep Core Miner... it has 2 turret hard points... I remember long time ago the way to get arknor was ninja mining, I did it with my probe and it took considerable time to get enough ore to the station to do one refinement, but that was the fast way to get enough money to buy a cruiser... you usually lose 1 or 2 ships before you get enough ore...
With today easy way of life, and battleships mining while a indi hauls the ore, is difficult to image or remember those times... but things have change again, maybe the new elite mining frigates will be the way to go (or the only way)… having a indi near by in which you can warp and give the ore or maybe better a mobile refining ship with someone with the specialize skill to refine this minerals... I can see new careers specializing on this... Ninja mining may be the answer for DCM, a career that maybe is worth to take a look in this new universe...

If you don't mind me asking, which system is it that you can do this "ninja mining" in? Im sure there are many. In toher words, where is Arkonor? I have a punnisher, so, I should be able to last a little while...

Edited by: Replicant Amara on 19/12/2003 13:44:41 If you already fit 5 DCM laser have you try them? I am asking cause the special ability of the Elite firgate is that they use -90% less cpu need for Deep Core Miner.. so I am thinking that a normal ship.. including BS may have a problem trying to keep them working... Have you already mine this rare ore?
Regarding to ninja mining... the way to go was to go jump from asteroid belt to belt in a 0.0 system and if you find one with no pirates yet, go fast were the arknor is and start mining but have your ship line up to warp out and your finger in the mouse botton to click it as soon as you see the one NPS pirate you warp on top of you... ARknor is very hard and the mining slow.. plus the cargo space of frigates is very limited, so you have to go to the station to drop it or give it to a indi waiting in a planet or so... if you do it with two friends or more mining at the same time better... even if the punisher can mine faster, if they destroy it (and they will) can cost you a lot... it is better to use a ship like the probe or imicus... they also have more cargo space...

CPU usage comes into play when you try to fit the miners onto your ship not when you use the lasers. The problem is in the capacitor usage of the lasers when you use them. With a decent cap recharge rate using the lasers isn't a problem. Just make sure you have enough cap to fire your mwd and warp away with the swarm of NPC rats spawn.

Exactly. Note that I'm not the miner though, I'm a guard. You can see the damage cloud around the merc roid which appears when you start mining it.

Very nice... so you mine it with a BS? and the cloud damage your ship? how long can you mine it with out being destroyed? and if you don't mind telling how many ships you have protecting the miner?
