I notice that my current agent likes to give me 1000's of reports as bonus rewards. OK it sucks but anyway when he finally decides to give me anything worthwhile l will be making some use of the R&D agents. Not only do the lev2's and lev3's require your you to have a certain standing BUT also for your corp to have a certain standing towards their corp.
1. How on earth is this calculated? 2. If I were to quit my corp and be on my own (one man corp) would my corp standing then equal my personal standing??

I'm a littel concerned about this as well.
I'm assuming they mean the standing towards the empire, not the corp. so Amarr rather than Viziam for example.
I looked around for the best lvl3 research agent in my area. He requires a standing of 4.90 personal and 2.90 corp. My personal standing is 4.84 and corp in 0.12.
They halved all the standing correct and if my current corp standing is 0.12 (don't remember that standing anywhere before castor, though I probably overlooked it) then before castor it was 0.24 or there abouts.
Taking into account that standings seem to rise ever so slowly in Castor, (beginig to wonder if it raises at all) if i took me hundreds of missions previously to get to 0.25 corp standing I can't bare to think of th time it's going to take to get to 2.90.
A larger corp might be able to raise that faster but for the small corp there's not much hope.
Might have to go check the lvl 1&2 research agent requirments, but when they need a much lower personal standing it's not very balanced. To be so little of required personal standing yet so far off corp just seems wrong.

I would assume that when you 'quit' corps, your corp standing becomes whatever the starting NPC's corp statings are ...
*rereads that and hopes it makes sense*
Another thing that's bothered me, is checking the Likes under my character sheet shows a different standing with an agent (Positive 13) than what it shows under the agent's info tabs (Negative 16).

Think I have misunderstood and thinkig about it I think I understand.
The Research Agent requires 4.90 faction rating and 2.90 corp rating. I'm thinking that means 4.90, the Amarr in this case, and 2.90 to the corp in question, Viziam for example, not corp as in my corp (like i said, that's rather time consumig to raise)
If that's correct, then it's not so bad after all, just means I have to find a normal agent for the research agents corp to get the 2.90.
Now I understand half a dozen other threads, my bad.

Think I screwed it up anyway.
I believe now that the research agent standing asking refers to your personal standing towards the npc corp and your corp standing. So Me and my Corp.
Makes things more difficult for the small corps and freelancers(what happens if your not in a corp?).
Considering that I'm getting the above increases at .04 and .01 per mission it's going to take a loooooong time, to the point of being stupid.
Please can a GM say one way or the other if this is normal?

Sound normal to me,
In RL I'm the guy who bough computers and accessories for the company i work for.
I now know the salesman very well, call him by is surname, joke with him... that personnal standing
My company buys for something like 50.000 Ç worth of material by year, so i got a pretty discount and a bottle of wine once a year... That's corporation standing
Now if for some reason I go to work somewhere else and my new employer need computers too, i will of course tell him of this company, call my salesman and still joke with him, but he won't be hable to do me the same discount before my new company buy for a certain amount by them also...
This Corp Standing things just reflect normal behaviour for agent, and make the whole agent thing a little bit less 'solo', which is good IMHO...
