Edited by: Silver Sheath on 09/03/2007 22:11:12 Last night I was ratting through Amamake and I saw a bunch of drones flying around by themselves. I assumed it was a miner, but there was no one in belt and only a few in local. They werent reading as hostile, they were just kinda moving around in the belt until some rats showed up. The drones engaged the rats (i threw in a little damage too) and after that they just went back to floating around. I only saw this in the first belt of the system, wasn't sure what was going on. Is this normal?

Cloaking maybe? Either way it's uncommon, and if you can really do something like this it adds a whole new awesome-ness to cloaks, and brings a whole new levelt o low sec ratting.

Thats one of the possibilites. I'm thinking it was most likely an exploit or something. Like, someone deploys the drones and bugs them to patrol for rats even when the ship leaves the belt, so you could grab a hauler and collect the loot later or something like that. Dunno, I might go back tonight to see if its happening anymore.

Engaging a cloak with your drones out will cause you to lose control of your drones. You will then have to fly to them and scoop them to either cargo or your drone bay. -------------------------------------- Heavy Lag Spike II belonging to EvE Cluster Node #0815 hits your Connection, wrecking your latency to 998ms |

Ah, I never really use drones, so I'm not sure how they work really. It just seemed really odd to me, I'd never seen them do that without someone else in belt.

Maybe they got scout drones to max level and flew way way out of the way. I'm sure there are way to keep control fo drones that are in semi-distant space. Probably a glitch or an exploit though.

Once you go over lock range (250km) you lose control of your drones. Don't let those warrior IIs follow that inty too far Life Begins at -10!

Drones would break a cloak if they got within 5km anyway wouldn't they?
I don't cloak so I don't know

Im gonna throw in my 0.02 isk... Carriers? Perhaps this "rouge drone infestation" is the result of a carrier... Is it possible to assign fighters to a cloaked ship? That would be evil :P "If engineers built buildings the way (microsoft) programmers write programs, the first woodpecker that came along would destroy civilization!" sometimes when you warp out of a belt while your drones still have a command (returning to ship), you won't lose control with them. Instead they will function as "drones in distant space", and they will appear so in your drone control window. They are still active and can attack and everything, you just can't order it. So that's probably what did it, as drones respond to aggression.

IIRC you can't assign "normal drones" - as in non-fighters.
I think that this is because the owner of the drones was either destroyed, or as posted above he bugged out whilst the drones had a command to return to ship.

I have had this happen on the reverse end. I forgot to pick up some drones about 7 months ago, and for a few days I would get a small standing boost from killing the local rats. I petitioned it, and the GM said it was a bug in drones at the time and it would go away. A few days later it did, not sure if the rats finally killed my drones or what.
