Blue Gene/L
Do you think with one of these EVE would suffer no lag at all?
Quote: On June 22, 2006, University of California researchers at LLNL announced that they had devised the world's most powerful software - a scientific application that sustained 207.3 trillion operations per second. This was the equivalent of an online game capable of handling 300 million simultaneous players. The record performance was made at LLNL on the IBM Corp's BlueGene/L, the world's fastest supercomputer, which has 131,072 processors. The record was a milestone in the evolution of predictive science, a field in which researchers use supercomputers to answer questions about such subjects as; materials science simulations, global warming, and reactions to natural disasters.

Well, even if they would rewrite EVE from the bottom up to work on this kind of machinery (yeah right), you'd still get network and client lag. But if you assume they can do that, you might as well assume we all have the needed client-side computer power and the networks are impecable... so yeah, you could experience lag-free EVE. And then, pink pigs will fly shooting rainbows out their rear end. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Online games kinda run like this
recive data from user calculate send updated data to user
the reciving and sending is boged down to the quality of the user. However if those two problems can be solved, which i belive they will be in the next decade, yes a computer like that could calculate those 1000 man lagfests. ------------- Hadean Drive Yards The EvE inflation, 80 Macro miners, 1.5b isk/day |

From what I understand, the lag everyone whines about is the huge fleet battles. Those are the server or node stressing not the network or the internetz.
I think on that computer we could have all the current suscribers of EVE in one fleet battle. :D ======================================== Production Assistant of APEX Unlimited

Edited by: Raivi on 09/03/2007 23:17:13 The applications that Blue Gene is designed for are very different than running a game server. The tasks that Blue Gene undertake are very easily distributed and parallelized. I doubt that it could keep up with the basic communication between nodes from normal jumpgate traffic.
That's not to say that the technology isn't available to make the ultimate EvE server if price was no object, but that server would be fundamentally different then Blue Gene in organization.

The technology already exists to run eve lag free even with no code changes - However, since CCP is probebly a 25-30mil turnover company, I kind of doubt they are going to spend a couple of years turnover to buy a super computer at this moment in time. --

Well the current server is already in the top 500 list of super computers .

Seriously? Where is this list viewed at?
EDIT: I found this site Top 500 But did not see CCP anywhere on it ======================================== Production Assistant of APEX Unlimited
