If you can't even fly cruisers right, you have no business PvPing. You'll get melted, very fast. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

Wrong to be honest.
Mate, if you can use a micro warp drive, warp scrambler/webber your pretty much set to be a tackler role.
Pssst Incursus is better as well

Frigates are not that effective solo, if you find a group, you will be able to contribute a lot more. A group truly is more than just a sum of their parts. Try something along the following:
Highs: 2 standard launchers, 2 rails
Meds: MWD or AB depending on skills Warp scrambler and a web
Lows: nanos, istabs, or wcs.
Frigs are eggshells, so when you start taking damage, you are gonna go pop. The range and speed makes you able to contribute something to damage. Before you have some 10+M sp you won't be able to compete in the damage game to be a heavy hitter, but you can contribute with a lot less. My personal recommendation is to use a kestrel, since it is has an impressive alpha and range for a frig, and cost less than 1M fully fitted... ___ P.S. Post with your main. I was assuming he was going to be PvP'ing solo, as he's not in a corp, and it doesn't really look like as if he has a group to be with. A single tackler is no threat to anyone, really.
In a group, is a different matter, of course. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

Within my first week in this game, which was before new pilots started with 800k sp, I had solo kills in low sec in a ****ty t1 fitted t1 frigate.
You can do it you just have to be more intelligent about picking targets.
Also, stealing loot from ratters in high sec and flipping ore cans of miners can get you kills.
I don't do that anymore but if you're really new you can get targets this way.
Fit the ship cheap and for close range.
2xions, 2xrockets mwd, disruptor, web fitting mods(you're new, you'll probably need them), plate, dc
Best setup for a 1vs1 frigate.
Make sure you have the ability to pay for replacements.
Get 3 or 4 ships fitted out ahead of time and then go have fun.
When you run out put 3 or 4 more together and try again.
That's all I did until I joined SniggWaffe.
Now I kill BoB.
PvP in this game is accessible to everyone from day 1 if you are smart enough.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard all day. That says quite a lot considering what forums we are on.
Frigates work fine for PVP. You may not kill a whole lot, but you can have tons of fun for almost no cost. Just be careful about your targets and you can hit far above your weight class. ----------------
If you're on IE, pretend this is transparent while you get a browser that supports .png. |

Considering how long he's been playing? He doesn't have the skills, support or other to do anything other then kill haulers (Not fun) or get killed (again, not fun). Yes of course, he could get lucky and kill another Frigate, or even a Cruiser, but it's unlikely, and most likely discouraging.
I personally just think it'd be best for him to develop a bit before rushing out into PvP. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

I solo pirate in Rifters all the time and saying you can't pvp if you can't fly cruisers correctly is completely wrong. Hell, I've ransomed Ravens, taken down battle cruisers and even fought a Rokh to a stalemate (until he decided to self destruct) all in a Rifter.
I have no doubt that you couldn't do similar in a Tristan, Punisher, Harpy, etc... with decent skills and good piloting skills.

Yep, he couldn't hit me and I had popped all his drones... however I didn't have any chance of breaking his tank since I ran out of EMP and had nothing but Fusion left. Hell, even if I had an unlimited supply of EMP I doubt I would have been able to do it.

I'd point you to this guide on piracy since you're asking for skills, since it covers the basic skills needed for piracy, and those will do nicely for any other kind of PvP aswell. As for setups, see this thread on various Tristan setups, anything from PvE, to PvP. Good luck!
