I'm sure it's been brought up before, but why not put an aggro timer on anyone (ANYONE) who's client logs off while in a bubble? Surely that would fix alot of the issues. The only drawback would be not being able to mwd back to the gate you say? Only give the character aggro when the client logs? Is there a way to make that work? --

It's a fine solution, but CCP react to things so slowly it'll be a decade before it is implemented. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

My opinion: Automatic 5 minute PVP timer when you jump through ANY gate.
If you crash and get killed by something you could have got away from/beaten in a fair fight - what was to stop you crashing while engaged???
If you log off because of a bubble/gatecamp - TOUGH!
Insurance is in the game for a reason.

I don't want it to destroy the ability to run back to the gate you just jumped through and jump back though. --

The standard 2 minute timer would be just fine if the ships actually stayed in the bubble. Even a freighter can be killed in 2 minutes by a fair sized gang.
Anyone remember?

Not at all, don't confuse "PVP Timer" above with "Aggression Timer".
Aggression Timer - 60 second timer, applies after you shoot/scramble/jam/hug another player that results in you being unable to dock or jump.
PVP Timer - 15 minute timer, applies after you shoot/scramble/jam/hug another player or that player shoot/scramble/jam/hug you. It does not prevent you jumping/docking, but it will cause your ship to remain in space for 15 minutes after you log off.
The latter is what I am suggesting apply in a more limited fashion (5 minutes), with the timer re-starting every time you jump through a gate.
Edit: and yeah - ships should not auto warp from a bubble. Thats probably one of the worst aspects of this problem. --

In order to log off you should have to complete a level of Tetris that appears on the screen. It will obstruct your view.
Only a very skilled pilot would be able defend themselves while completing a level of Tetris, am I right? It will be very difficult to log in combat.
If you are not good at Tetris, you must reboot your computer and receive a 15 minute 'penalty' before your ship disappears.

I think a logout timer in a bubble is a fine idea. All other MMOs I have played implement this feature in some way or another, because it works.

LOL no actually no other mmo you have played have implemented this feature since no other mmo has the bubble capability, and the only people that are crying about this are the gank squads that cant pvp unless they have a billion more sp and a tons of friends along with them anyways.
and no i dont use Logoff at all - i also dont go though bubbles either since they are easy to avoid.
It's just a game........Or is it?????

Just remove the warp a million kms on logout. I know it's there for a reason but it causes more problems than it seems to solve.
Lose your ship in a mission due to lag: petition it. Logoff to avoid a gatecamp: wake up in a new clone.

All you people think about is "pvp pvp pew pew pvp!"
Think about what your "brilliant changes" would do to other players.
What about the guy who gets disconnected while mining? Get's killed because of ISP problem by one guristas cause drones won't move without a target?
How about the guy just trying to get through ONE 0.0 system, in a fully stabbed transport, but because he gets a cookclock up his arse for getting disconnected from the net, he now gets to wake up in a station with his shirt on his back and 200k from the lost indy.
Sure, it's not a perfect system, but before you go "Look at my brilliant pants!" think of the WHOLE game, like the devs have to do.

Very bad idea.
This would just lead to the following situation.
You jump through gate, look at a black screen for 5 minutes and then wake up in the station.
What you did not see, and could not see, is the gate camp wit 10-15 bubbles and 100-200 cans that lagged you out enough to never load the grid.
Good luck petitioning that.
The mechanic excists for a reason. It is because it solves more problems than it causes. Just let it be... ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |
