Edited by: Roman Calitri on 11/03/2007 18:00:23 I'm enjoying Eve and the community but need clarification concerning ship choices. First I understand people choose certain ships due to their skill an profession.
Here is the question that perplexes me for example let's use the Gallente BC vs BS. Why do people spend millions $ millions of isk and train up to BC 5 plus other skills you can use later of course just to trick out (lack of a better term) to the hilt a BC. When they could have moved up to the BS. I'm talking about ALOT of time and money on a BC. I don't get it when you can have a BS nicely equipped with what they have spent on a BC.
I know the Brutix and Myrm are great ships but there is no way there are as good as an equally or even avg equipped Dominx, Megathron and Hyperion. Now before you say the money difference, the posts I've read they could have easily moved up to a nicely equipped Hyperion.
I thought the diff lvl of ships were here as your skills grew you could aquire more powerful ships. For myself it's been Vexor, Brutix moved over to Myrm for the drones and will shoot for a BS unless I'm way off on the reason for ship progression.

command ships to give gang members bonuses, BC's ect for moving with small roaming gangs when cruisers just wont do...it gets boring flying BS's 24/7, moving to smaller ships that can be just as powerful is a nice change sometimes. -------------------------------------------

Because there are T2 battlecruisers but no T2 battleships, and fitting T2 guns and properly scaled faction mods is substantially more expensive/skill intensive to do on a battleship. BC's also align faster. -----

Edited by: Roman Calitri on 11/03/2007 18:07:02 I understand it's nice to change up for a faster style ship for diff situations. I was researching setups for my Myrm when I started seeing these people with BC maxed and spending sooooo much money. I started thinking am I missing something why they aren't going to a BS
That makes sense Halfrage......

Edited by: Selena 001 on 11/03/2007 18:06:27 People also tend to use ships they're happy with losing, regardless of their skill level. (I Dont mind losing a cruiser, but get a bit edgy at the though of losing the carrier).
Also, a lot of PvP is based around a wallet. You dont go uisng your T2 fitted BS if you only have 100 million in your wallet like I used to... Unless you have a way to get it all back

Yes.

Because:
1/ Cruisers and BC are much cheaper and more replaceable than a BS. When you hit a gatecamp it doesn't matter how tricked out your ship is, it's gonna die and it's not gonna have a prayer. 2/ Some people (e.g: me) prefer the speed and maneuvrability of smaller ships. I run my Lvl4 in a Cerb rather than a Raven whenever possible, it's just more enjoyable. 3/ Cruisers and BC lead to HACs and CBC.

You wouldn't have thought the Maulus was good for much either, but the Maulus leads to the Helios, which leads the things like the Lachesis, which is one of the most useful things you can possibly have in a gang.
If you have 5 people in a gang, and they are all in Blaster Hyperions, fully T2 fitted, then they're going to massacre any other BS they encounter if they are at point blank range. But if they meet a lone Crusader, it will be able to write a book in local before they can lock it and even then they can't track it. If they are scouted out by a CovOps, the enemy can warp in a sniper fleet at 200km and pew pew with impunity, the examples go on.
However, if that 5 man gang has 2 blaster Hyperions, a Scorpion, a Rapier and a Vagabond, it has plenty of killing power, as well as speed, jamming, frig-killing abilities. Note how 2 of those are cruiser sized and one of the BS isn't really into the killing side of life.
It's all about how it works in a gang. ---

Different ships are needed in different situations, sometimes a BC is better than a BS and other times only a BS will suffice.

And remember some battlecruisers can fit astounding tanks. Especially the T2 Command ships. I seem to recall someone relating a story where a Damnation was called primary and tanked 16 battleships focus firing on it for over 5 minutes. I may have misremembered the details a bit but it was something along those lines and quite an astounding tank performance. Of course the Damnation blows in the pew pew department but then that's not really its purpose anyway.

note that when properly utilized, even normal T1 cruisers and frigates are a force to be reckoned with. Sure they may not have the battlefield stamina nor the firepower as their T2 counterparts, but what really numbers is battlefield effectiveness and strength of numbers.
Knowing what your force is capable of compared to the enemy is the first step in a battle. *

I think his point was - you see some BCs flying around with full T2 setups that make them more expensive than T1 fitted BSs, when (arguably) a T1 fitted BS > T2 fitted BC.
The reason for flying BC is that they're effective against frigs and cruisers because of their med guns (whereas BS tend to have major tracking problems) while still having the DPS to take on BS. They're just more flexible than BS. ___

And one more viewpoint. ISK is easy, skills are hard.
Just because someone has 300+M to blow on a Drake doesn't mean they have the SP to do anything worthwhile with a Raven (noob issue or otherwise) no matter how much ISK they spend.
Also, not all complexes will allow a battleship-sized ship in.
Before you can train tech2 large turrets you have to train small and medium tech2 turrets for a long, long, long time. Some people like to play with their new toys, and hence a period of BCing.
Plus, as someone pointed out, BCs are a lot more fun to fly than a ship which turns like a stunned yak.
