So Revelations has been out awhile now and with all the funkyness that came with the seamless map, I figured what I'm about to show you was just more of the same. Thing is, the giagantor mining drones, the deathstar sized little rocks the mining drones carried, and a few other oddities that would show up on the system map seem to have been fixed. But these huge blobs of kooshball looking, FPS stealing, OMG my eyes, evilness are still showing up for me....
What am I talking about? This is what I'm talking about.
I zoomed way out to give some perspective on them. That probe I have deployed is iirc a 20au spook. So these blobs are no small potatos. Anyway, they give the same impression of those other weird glitches we saw early after kali release. These things pulse like they are a 3D fuzz ball made of a million lines, each line being constantly re-rendered
Here's up close on the small one: linky Up close on the big mamba-jamba: linky
Here's the kicker. On those last two ss I was still zoomed out pretty far. If I zoom in closer to these guys eve will totally wash out in retina killing bright white and my entire system starts chunkin along like it's calculating pi to the exponent of god. I mean everything slows down, movies I'm playing, other apps whatever, nevermind FPS in EVE. It's less that 1 for certain. So zooming in close to these is, in technical terms, not good.
So I have a little favor to ask. I've finally decided that maybe its just me since I can't find any posts about this specific glitch on the forums. And it's really to the point of making eve very unfun when I have to get close to one of these guys due to exploration stuff. So tonight I did a little survey. I took a 20+ jump trip around and noted systems with these things and systems without. Here's the results:
Good Systems - No Death Balls Jakanerva, Nomaa, Haatomo, Geras, Tuuriainas, Sireshin, Inaro, Juunigaishi, Uedama, Sivala, Hatakani, Kassigainen, Algogille, Renyn, Du Annes, Balle, Aufay, Deltole, Bei, Ongund, Eiluvodi, Asgeir, Evuldgenzo, Uttindar, Hek, Otou, Miroitem, Rancer, Crielere, Ambeke, Faurent, Iyen-Oursta, Urlen, Sirppala
Bad Systems w/ the evil planets Hampinen V Gekutami V & VI Saisio VIII Anttiri III & V Isikesu IV Perimeter VII Jita IV & VII Suroken VII Kusomonmon IV, V, VI
So the favor is real simple. If you happen to hop through one of these bad systems, could you flip to system map for a second and see if you are getting these things and drop me a note here? If you see them in systems I have down as good, note that as well (should be good info for CCP bug hunting). If you don't see them, that'd be good to know to. Maybe just say yes or no and what your vid card is. Mine's a real early X800.
- If others are seeing this, I'll make a bug report out of all the info collected - If no one else is, guess I'll have to bite the bullet and reinstall EVE
Thanks in advance!

I might swing by those systems and see what I can see. Haven't noticed anything like that yet.
While you're waiting on replies, you might want to go update your video card drivers. That glitch looks like it might be some sort of transparency/alpha glitch in your driver.
Always suspect your own video driver first, then look to the game.

Yep, did that a week after rev released to see if it would cure anything. But just for S&Gs I just tried it again and... they're still there.

Agreed, check your video card driver. I'd suspect it's got something to do with lots of moons at those planets. -----

My client seems to be stuffed too, but with ships instead of planets.

Just tried the latest drivers. No difference.

I had the same problem on my laptop - full reinstall of the client fixed it.

A while back, 2 or 3 months ago there was or still is a problem if you open your map to solar system view in a belt where someone is using strip miners you get something like that but yellow and shooting beams, Its just a mining laser VERY close up and is bigger then the sun.
maybe there is something going on at that moon?

After CCP releases updates, I sometimes see things like that. Re-installing DirectX usually fixes it for me.

get a new graphics card too, you are definitly not seeing EvE in all its glory!

Update: Deleting my prefs.ini file fixed it.
I must have dorked something up with that advancedWhatever=1 further graphics options.

I kind of doubt that. Maybe when the release the graphics upgrade.

I've seen that a couple of times. I think it is the star graphic following you around. I turned into an astroid the other day with something similar.
Warp to a belt, do the look at at an astroid, a nice big fat one, and zoom up close, now warp some where. Your ships is now a huge rock for a moment.
I think the map is doing this with the sun, or the behavior is very similar anyway. -AS |
