Alright, so let's get down to business. I'm particularly fed up with the endless Treadmills Blizzard sets up just so I can get 'phat lewts' so I've basically looked toward EVE for the solution.
Now, for what this thread really is about. Is there honestly an actual treadmill in EVE? Or am I exchanging the leveling treadmill of WoW to the mining/ratting treadmill of EVE. I somehow think I'm missing the point, so I am REALLY confused as to what I'm actually 'supposed' to do. Maybe someone here can help me, maybe not. To be honest I don't even know if this is the right section to post in, whatever. Hopefully someone can answer my question.

By treadmill you mean grinding right? At first, to be blunt, you will be grinding in Eve, not for lvls but for ISK. Whilst there is no leveling in Eve, money seems to take it's place as you get deep into the game. Once you get to level 3 missions however, or get to the point where you can hold your own in a pvp, then you wont have to worry about it as much. Basically, pick a corp, train social and connections, and try to get to lvl 3 missions asap if you want to avoid treadmilling

Well yeah, I basically mean treadmills as in grinding but to be honest do I HONESTLY have to do missions to bypass the grind? I mean, this is my 4th trial and I realized on the first trial that most missions are the same...
Plus, my new 'main' is more into industry than military to be honest, with over 500k into industry I don't want to re-roll just because I want to have more to do with mining, not mission running..

For an industry character just buy yourself a miner and train up for an industrial ship. You should go linear and start training up for a mining barge and mine in your industrial if you really want to get into mining, though I personally find it dull. Mission running is a good way to make isk, but miners make 100xs as much once they get to a mining barge with strip miners.Then start training up for perfect refines and builds. Vuala, you are LOADED

Well, since you never have to do any work at all to improve your skills you can do pretty much what you want.
If you wanted to, you could mine all day, or rat all day, or mission all day and make ISK at any of them. But EVE is so much more than those things, and if you don't like them, you can avoid them, for the most part anyway.
You have other choices in EVE, you can PvP, pirate ( ), manufacture, engage in the market, and many other things I won't list now (I'm at work), or you can do any or all of those things in combination to relieve the boredom if you get bored easily.
And until now, I haven't even mentioned anything about interactions with other players, which brings up corporations. Working with others in EVE is a truly unique experience, and one that I find engrossing. You really owe it to yourself to join a corporation and open the doors to what EVE has to offer.

Thats it, in Eve you can do pretty much anything. It's nearly a reflection in real life. You can spend your life in the marker, or you can engage in pvp. Or maybe you can join a corp and provide service and aid for them. Theres so much to this game that it's not even funny. I know people who are so devoted to industry they don't even HAVE gunnery skills after nearly a year.
What do you do? The final answer is....anything. Just wing it. Though personally i'd use the money for pvp and pve

That's the glory of EVE. You can do whatever you want to do.
PVP takes many forms in this game too, all of them quite enjoyable as far as I've been able to experience :)

Missions will get lucrative, but that said, there are many people who have never done missions.
If you can get into 0.0, ratting is a good alternative. To begin, you'll need the funds to replace what you're flying, some contacts on the alliance making its home in your target area (preferably joining a corp friendly to them so you won't get shot) and there you go.
There are also few areas in which you do not get shot on sight, such as CVA/most of NOS/peace-time IAC space in the south.
Of course, in the lowsec or nullsec areas, you must be prepared to defend yourself or run, in any case. Lowsec is usually considered even more dangerous than nullsec.

you don't really need to grind if you have money. Just sell GTC's and make the ISK.

Your not supposed to do anything inparticular.
Do whatever you want, just try to make some ISK(money), and have fun, whatever that means to you.
Avoid the metagaming route, and you will be happier in the long run, imo.
Buying charracters, GTC sales and other crap.
It's not a DESTINATION its the journey, here, that counts.

I love the first few responses: 'If you want to avoid the treadmill, do missions'
And then the idea of doing missions to avoid the grind... roflcopter.
Missions are the only treadmill grind in Eve.

If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

You don't 'have' to do anything. There are no NPCs that are going to hold your hand and guide you to the end of the game, upon which you'll be forever grinding. There are methods of making money that are a grind, and those include, but are not limited to: Mining, Ratting, and mission running.
On the other end, I've grown completely fed up with all 3 of those (it took me a couple of years, but I'm through), and I almost ended up quitting Eve because of it. Then I thought to myself "There's a whole different dimension of Eve that I haven't explored: the industrial side", and as such, I've been exploring the various ways to make money that way. At the same time, since I have been ratting/missioning/PvPing for quite some time now, that money is going to fuel my PvP funding once it can sustain itself. You can choose to PvP, but if that's not your cup of tea, there's many other ways to spend your money. Maybe you want to buy better stuff to produce, or be a faction item reseller, or maybe you want to start your own corporation and set up a POS. Perhaps a year from now you want to get yourself in a carrier. Not only does it have a huge initial investment, but it requires fuel and comparitively expensive ammo to be useful.
In Eve the question is not "How do I get there?" it is "In what way will I get there?"

Honestly there are so many things to do I can't see how you can get bored. Except that when you want to try out a differant aspect of the game you have to train up the skill in that aspect and that might take time. Idle time.
But I think PvP is pretty dang fun. Industry looks like it is so ever changing with the market it coudl never get old.
If you get bored with one thing you can always do another.

Firstly, welcome to EVE. I'm certain that you will enjoy your stay. Secondly, if you want to have fun in EVE leave the WoW 'grinding' and 'PvP/PvE' mentality at the door. EVE is something unlike anything that you will have ever played, and if you go into it thinking that it's just another MMO only in space, then you will entirely miss the point.
Imagine that you have been given a small amount of money and some basic tools in the real world and been set loose. You can do whatever you want to do, it's all there for you. So many people focus on missions, ratting, mining endlessly... this is the grind that you mention, and it's the mentality of people who are used to games like WoW that makes these people think 'I want money, so I have to do this to make money, which I use to buy items to make more money.'. This is the wrong train of thought for EVE.
Start building things and try to sell them if industry is your thing, or ferry other peoples goods around for a profit instead if you would rather be a trader. Perhaps you want to explore the galaxy, become a big bad pirate or fight in a war. Maybe you want to command your own fleet of ships? If you start to succeed in what you do then you might find like-minded individuals and form a corp. This isn't like a guild in that it's not just a group of people to game with, it's an entity in the world of EVE and you may find that your fortT is actually in the managament of your corp and it's relationship with other player corps.
Your progression in EVE is not based on levels, your skill points, your wallet size or the ships that you can fly. It's a social experience and only you can decide what you want to do, only you can judge your progress.
As an example of the freeform gameplay of EVE, my corp whcih I joined recently has made a name for itself by running classes to train pilots how to fight other pilots, with the aim of teaching new memebers that they CAN PvP without having a battleship. You literally can do whatever you want to.

eVe is easy. When you have time, you can run missions or kill NPCs for ISKs. If you do not have time, you can buy GTCs from CCP and sell them to players. The ISKs are for buying better gear but you need to train your skills up to use them.
