So, 2 days ago, I felt a sharp pain exploding my head all of a sudden.. And voila, 2 of my wisdom teeth had shown up and are already half corroded away, making it oh so painful..
And I will probably have to get them removed in the near future, bringing both pain and an empty wallet..
Already heard a few horror stories about getting them teeth removed, thought id hear a few more if anyone has em

Seriously mate dont worry. As long as there is no complications youll live
Its usually a quick process and all you will feel is pressure as the dentist frees the tooth.
Most people have there wisdom teeth removed due to impactions. Mesioangular impaction being the most common. You do not want Horizontal impaction, where the tooth grows intowards the other teeth. Those are a real ***** to remove. But in all honesty you would have known if you had this.
p.s. It is not as expensive as i believed it to be. So again dont stress, better to get them taken out than suffer the wrath of an exposed nerve - followed by the becoming necrotic and then being infected. This can quickly escalate into something far more serious.
So Eali's advice get the little blighter OUT!

Here is something to cheer you up.
When doing a test on the effectiveness of painkiller placebos they used as test subjects people that had just had their wisdom teeth removed because it was the most painful thing they could find after chilbirth.
Enjoy

Lordy no, they removed my tooth and gave me the painkillers. I had a dull ache for a few days nothing more. Now Cluster Headaches are way worse try having one of those for two days you'll beg someone to kill you.
The worst pain i ever had though was a rather embaressing case of trapped gas after an appendix operation. Lying in bed for over a week in hospital due to complications i was eventually sent home. All was well until the following morning when i awoke to the most intense pain i had ever felt in my entire life. Anyone who has ever had this will be able to back me up. It felt like someone had a hand grasped firmly around me nuts and just relentlessly squeezed, while the other hand was having fun with my inards. I thought i was going to die

Edited by: Anatolius on 14/03/2007 14:58:04 No issues here. Top two were just yanked straight out. (They were actually 'fine' save for the fact that they were, well, coming out anyway. Were already much lower than my top molars.) They had to cut into me for the bottom two (which were coming in all but perpendicular to my molars), but I suppose that's why they gave me vicodin afterwards.
Make sure you get real painkillers. None of that tylenol 2 crap. My teeth sound like they were in far better condition than your's, so don't bloody settle for anything less than blissful narcotics.
Should note that I went to a specialist and am unafraid of zany death disclaimer forms, so they put me under while they worked. Ended up being the least painful surgery I've ever had.

I had 3 wisdom teeth removed when i was young as my jaw wasn't big enough. They put me under and when i awoke i had fewer teath and felt drowsy no pain what so ever. Now my 4th wisdom tooth is comming through. I'm 23 and the fact that my teath are still growing scares me a little.

Edited by: Salusa VC on 14/03/2007 16:34:28 My wisdom teeth, caused the worst medical experience I have ever had!!
Many years ago I was based offshore on oil rigs in the Persian Gulf.
One evening I sat down to dinner in the canteen and had a bolt of the most excruciating pain in my jaw. It passed pretty quickly and I thought nothing of it.
Over the next few days the pain got worse and I developed a rapid fever which confined me to my cabin. My throat swelled up to the point where I could not even take liquids and literally had to pour several pints of water down my throat in the hope that some would get into me.
The onboard medic could not prescribe me anything, so I was taking three times the daily recommended dose of Paracetamol to kill the pain with no effect.
I eventually get flown back to mainland Abu Dhabi where I get checked out by an Oral Surgeon who informs me that one of my wisdom teeth has æimpactedÆ and caused a massive infected abscess and I would need surgery after they treated the infection.
About a week later I got booked into hospital and had all four wisdom teeth removed. I was put under general anesthetic (thatÆs another funny story) and came to later with bits of string hanging out my mouth. I went home and the Doctor said to call him if I had any problems.
Later that evening I had chest pains and called the Doctor thinking it was a side effect of the anesthetic.
His reply was a bit disconcerting ôDonÆt worry, thatÆs just where I was using my knees on you to get some leverage on your teethö!!!
I would have hated to have them removed under local, so check with you dentist/surgeon on how he intends to do it.
Good luck

all 4 surgically removed at the same time
I went under for the procedure, and dont really remember anything untill i got home. Got a nice vicoden prescription, but i only needed it for the first two days. after that i was fine with regular over the counter painkillers.
My face was pretty swollen for like a week though. gave me an excuse for lot of eve ;p ---------

You see told you if its impacted its bad. If its horzontal impaction its way worse. If left it will get necrotic and the infection will begin. If untreated it will spread to your other teeth damage your gums and even your jaw itself. The whole time you would have the bitter taste of puss and iron in your mouth.
When it comes to your teeth get it fixed fast.
Your story reminds me of my Boss he was sitting in his chair talking to one of my collegues when he suddenly garggled a horrible shriek and collapsed to the floor. We thought hed took a heart attack, we called an ambulance and checked him over. He was breathing his heart was beating. Confused we just waited, calling his name in an attempt at rousing him. He eventually opened his eyes and sat up. Oh my god he said 'I felt something weird in my mouth so i put my tongue' before he could finish he shrieked aloud and passed out for a second time.
Turns out the cap from his tooth came off exposing the very healthy nerve. Wondering at the strange new occurance he decided to explore with his tongue and prodded the hole. Such was the trauma he must have felt that he was totally out of himself for hours apparently, lol the shock also made him loosen his bowels too

I had the 4 of mine out when I was 13, they insisted I was put under for the procedure (aparently its standard procedure to do that here if you have 4 out at once). Usual ache afterwards and a lot of drooling, but nothing too bad.
Basically dont expect to do anything for the next 24h, and take a drool bowl. Hope my advice helped.

Had one out of 3 removed last September (yeah dont have the 4th one, not even a "baby teeth" grew up)due to oblic growth.
Surgically removed, took 15mins, doc was an ace, didnt felt nothing except for the sensation you get when it's unstuck from the jaw bone, that one is weird. Expect to bleed for the next 12h oh and be carefull when drinking as half your lower face will be "asleep"; well made me giggle when I splashed myself tho .
Smashed potatoes and ham then ice cream 4tw after that
There's nothing to "fear" in that process, just dont smoke for some days (if you smoke)and keep ice as long as possible on your cheek(s) but your surgeon will give you all the advices needed.
Take care and do it asap

My bottom two took about 3 months to come through fully. Hurt like hell. They're through now though, and fine and dandy. I won't need them pulled.
Top ones still haven't come through, though. Who knows if they'll behave as well............ --------

Mine were the same way. Stayed barely exposed and without pain for several years, actually. Then one day, started hurting like losing a titan to an aggression timer.
Really depends on how bad the impaction is.

When my friend had his wisdom teeth removed the dentist accidentally shattered one and that left a few chunks behind which he had to later go get removed cause the dentist missed them.

I really should stop reading threads like this... Slightly worried now, im 18, no idea what 'wisdom teeth' are (off to wikipedia in a min). I usualy just ignore pain until it goes away, but thers 2 kinds I cant ignore, headaches and tooth pain. Doesnt help that I've had alot of dental complications already in my life... -----

Got a full set early, went to see the dentist (after avoiding him for a couple of years) and was informed they were all present and correct.
Toothache puts the fear into me though, that and earache are unbearable. I have no shame admitting that either of these will make me alternate between seeting rage and crying like a **** untill I'm doped up to my eyeballs with painkillers.
If there's ever a problem get 'em sorted ASAP before your too agonised to move.

Edited by: alesta on 16/03/2007 03:41:40 wisdom teeth removal is not too bad but it does suck....make sure they give u some extra vicoden....it took 4 just to get the pain to go away......u might not have a case that was like mine...i had all 4 come at once...and they were bad bad... i had seriously impacted wisdoms...and knew about it for about 2 years before fixing them....neways....for all 4 they had to break out i guess a bonesaw and cut the bottom half of my teeth out of my jaw...wich probally contributed to alot of the pain... my teeth were horizontally impacted......few months later though ull have fun poking ur tongue in ur new hole....i still do it and its been 9 months or so lol if u can... have them put u to sleep......it doesnt hurt or anythign if your awake under the gas.....but omg you will cringe so much ffrom hearing / feeling them pull twist torque turn etc on your teeth.... ....and hope u dont get a dry socket too...i got 1 that crap hurts like no other....
ps if u smoke....try not to...only made things worse for me lol......
