Hello,
many of you may know me as the sister/alter ego of Aaro'ne Erviale (CEO of EvE Galactic Stock Exchange). When I first started playing EvE I had 2 business idea's, one of which was to build a stock exchange. The second idea remains secret, but I can tell you it is situated in the Event & Entertainment area of EvE.
For this second idea to become real I need a second IGB website. Since I hardly find the RL time to adjust and improve the EGSE website, it wouldn't be fair to the EGSE users to take on the development job of this second one. Therefor I have made a little WTB entry: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=490990.
In order to properly pay this developer job I'd like to use an IPO-like system. I create a new corp with 10,000,000 shares.
The developer(team) receives 20%, 10% goes to me (for the initial idea) and 10% is for the administrator of the site. That leaves 60% of the shares for the public (but not at start-up).
I beleave the venture could generate 250M isk/week. The IPO won't start untill the venture generates 250M/week or 1B/month. If we consider that to be 5% ROI each share has a potential value of 2000 isk, so the development of the site could earn you 2B isk + dividends paid during start-up phase.
60% of dividends will remain in the corp during start-up and will be used to advertise and promote the venture.
e.g.
Week Profit Profit/share Phase
1 5M isk 0.5 isk/share Start-up 2 20M isk 2.0 isk/share Start-up 3 100M isk 10.0 isk/share Start-up 4 250M isk 25.0 isk/share IPO 5 400M isk 40.0 isk/share Post IPO
Would you consider this a good way of paying for development services? Or should just run the IPO and just pay a fixed sum to the developer?
Kind regards,
Amia'e Erviale

I used to run a web develop business in real life. I was offered many partnership type deals, but before accepting any (perhaps 10% of those offered) I wanted to see a business plan that I could evaluate myself. If I thought it would be a profitable venture I'd accept, but most of the time either the business plan was rubbish, or I didnt have enough knowledge in a specific area to determine how good the idea was, or in some cases, the idea was just crap.
Thats just the way I operated, but it sounds like you dont want to reveal your idea until you've sealed the deal, so the issue would be if any programmers would agree to take it on without knowing that or not.
By the way, if you decide to reveal the idea to potential developers, please drop me a mail. Id probably be quite interested if its something interesting or community-building like EGSE. I would only be interested in shares though, I retired from development for a reason ;)

Just a few more comments...
You have "developer(team)" in your OP. Is the project that massive? Ive never shared programming duties with anyone before, nor would I want to ;) But if the design is quite modular it could be ok.
If this is in fact another community based type project, I may donate some free time to program parts of the site (or all, depending on size) at no cost, simply because id like to see this aspect of the game grow.
Also, get into EGSEx, I wanted to talk to you about something unrelated to this :p

It surely is as community building as EGSE. The basis of the idea is, much like EGSE, provide a framework for pilots to create something for the EvE community (and earning themselves, possibly the community and ofcourse myself some isk in the process).
The main problem about revealing the complete idea/concept is that there is no way to protect this idea from others to implement it, so the developer will need to be on my 'trust' list as do potential investors.
But feel free to convo me ingame if you want to find out more (not all) on the business plan.
regards,

Why not combine the IPO-like system with a fixed sum?
Say if the business fails, you still have to pay a certain amount to your developer, if it takes off, they get their pay from the shares. Unless ofcourse the business fails due to poor developing

Nice thought.
In this way I'm not only looking for a developer, but rather for a business partner who happens to be a webdeveloper :-).
