Just wondering what kind of luck people are having for exploration sites. More specifically complex exploration sites.
Anything good dropping out of 0.0 complex exploration sites?
How many times does a site escalate before you get a decent item?
What kind of items dropped and from what type of NPC?
Hope to get an idea if this is worth risking ships over right now. Or is this 1.4 patch supposed to fix a few things?

hmm did a pith 0.0 radar site twice
from both sites:
esoteric data interface bpc 2runs
esoteric tuner interface bpc 1run
loads of datacores
all the parts and more to build the interfaces
me and my bro did it together we each made ~300m each very good for 2-3hours of work

i stopped/gave up on exploration about 2 weeks ago due to very poor risk vs. reward and reward vs. time. Yes I did find some good stuff and at one point you could say i struck gold but when you factor in all the time i wasted on worthless sites/expeditions it really is a waste of time in my opinion. Anyways, to answer your question:
I only successfully completed an angel expedition once (i think it started from an unknown sig called 'angel outpost'), took all in all about 4-5 hours perhaps, pretty hard, around 10-15 bs at time sometimes iirc, but i had a very skilled jaguar pilot speedtanking for me while i shot stuff with my raven. The final step took us like 25 jumps away into 0.0 (i found this site in lowsec) so we clear it and we find a Gisti A-type Medium Shield Booster. Now this was an interesting find as those dont drop from any of the regular plexes and as such it is an extremely rare item (probably only a couple exist) and we sold it for something like 600million. 300 million each for 4-5 hours of work, not bad at all.
Right after hacking drops were buffed i found a site with a ton of mechanic parts, data interface bpcs, etc, and since they were still pretty rare as this was right after the patch the prices were more than 10 times what they are now (i was selling mechanic parts for 15million each) and I made over a billion from that site (would be somewhere in the range of 100-250million given current prices i think).
Now you might think "how can he complain after getting rewards like that??" Well...those are the only two really worthwhile rewards I ever got from exploration. You don't want to know how much time I spent scanning stuff down, and believe me it sucks getting a group of people together for an expedition only to run into a dead end after 4-5 of us spent 3-4 hours of our time. After i struck gold from that hacking site and with that gisti sb my corpmates were eager to help me in expeditions but shortly after that I'm sure they became reluctant as pretty much every expedition ended up in a dead end or had absolutely **** rewards (read: drone expeditions) after spending a few hours and often times losing a few ships here and there too. One particular lowpoint in my exploration career:
I once spent 6-7 hours on a very hard drone expedition late at night (to beat DT) with above-mentioned jag pilot. this expedition was very hard, bs'es like crazy but furthermore each stage of the expedition had a random pirate faction there as well as the drones. Now for expeditions unless you have a hauler with you its not very easy to bring multiple ammo types with you. Anyways in the end the expedition didn't result in a deadend but instead we got...about 100million in t2 rig components....for 6-7 hours of work split between 2 people AND this expedition sent us into 0.0 once again...I have learned from this experience and others NEVER to do drone expeditions, the rewards are absolutely pathetic given the time required and the difficulty.
I guess I could tell more exploration horror stories but ill just sum up my long rant with this:
Yes I did make alot of money from exploration, and those two sites proved to be very good isk per time spent. But when you look at my total time spent vs total rewards, it makes me want to cry. Level 4 missions or lowsec mining would have made me more money by a longshot. So basically, I'm tired of beta testing exploration for CCP and I think I'll just wait until they make it a little more worthwhile before I dust off my buzzard and throw my scan probe bpo's back into the assembly line.

Anyone else? Maybe a couple others that have started their exploration in 0.0

nice post...
many thought there r no rewards for combat exploration at all, but seems its just a matter of luck to get expedition to the end. So u can have some nice factions from it . ..but not 100%.

Escalation plexes are a total waste of time. Yes, IF you reach 5th escalation you mayb get something valuable. But from last 30 combat plexes I only reveived a 5th step once. We got like 150 blue rig components from a drone plex. But man, that was the 31th combat plex. What have I been doing with my life?
Where you find a hacking or archeology plex, remove the combat plexes.

At least you have gotten an escalation. I have yet to get a single escalation. Not one.
-- Total time spent exploring? Back of the napkin calc I'd guess 80 hours.
-- Number of sites found? Maybe 15 (haven't kept track but seems about right).
-- Number of escalations? Zero.
-- Money spent on probes (much of this was before the price drop)? 25+ million.
-- Money made from sites I did find? Maybe 10 million (if I am being generous...admittedly a minign site I found I had ot give up to a mate cuz it took me so long to find the ting I had to leave after I found it).

im part of a corp that has several scanners so if we find a site we all jump in and run multiple scans then jump into whatever ship is required ( speeds up the discovery process a lot)
generally 0.0 and low sec are about the same in non mining sites. High sec havent really done much apart from mining ones, to many ppl going after to few plexes
some 0.0 ones can sit for days on end untouched if u have the balls to go in can be very profitable

fyi i make this and more everytime i run a plex now u just have to know where to look for them, and we never lose any ships . u need to tank about 5k damage every 5 secs to do some of them (2 remote bs with 4 large shield/armour reps on each runing all the time)
