In the begining 5 days seems long, but thats because you are playing the game like its a video game. Think of eve as an education. Get into a cruiser you like, fly it in combat (or a hauler and trade or whatever it is you want to do in the game) untill you have not only trained all the wepons, support and cruiser (in this case) skill out of it, and then plan your next step. If you are bored of your caracal, or your thorax, or whatever, you will find that in the end - thats how the game is anyway - you fly one or two ships not because thats all you can fly, but because thats what you can afford to lose and those are the most fun ships for you.
5 days is nice - try 45 or 65 days for a level 5. . .

Its when you are playing a lot that those long skills do suck.
My alt, whom I only log on to train skills, I hate having 30 minute skills, or 2 hour skills, mainly because, i hate logging on him.
haha.
i've missed days on end because i was too lazy to log on.

Originally by: Hamatitio I'm jealous. My level 4 skills are taking 5 days.
I'm less than a month old, I'm still getting used to the concept of how long things take.
Having INT and MEM of 19 helps. Skills in that category usually go, 30min, 1.5hr, 5hr, 25h, 5D. These a level 1 skills too. They aren't kidding when they say the learning skills speed things up.
I will probably never fly a battleship then because my Percep is A*S low. (F'n hippy-intakis)
You will soon find that to actually make money in this game with science and industry skills takes quite an initial investment of money.
How to make that money? Welcome to ship training, my fellow Gimptaki friend. I created my main char to be a science and industry character, and lo and behold, despite being Gimptaki, the category I have the most skillpoints in is Spaceship Command.
/me is not looking for the 41 days to train Gallente Battleship 5, and that's with +4 implants, the basic learning skills at 5 and the advanced ones at 4. ------------ Ezra Cornell

To the OP: There are players who've been in the game for 3+ years who are still training up their skills. As you advance in Eve the time commitment gets steeper. You kind of get used to it after a while.
It took me about 2.5 months to get into a battleship. Now it'll take me 38 days to train to Minmatar BS 5 alone. All my attributes (with implants) are around 20.
Have patience and good luck.

Originally by: Divideby0 I have several skills pumped up to level IV as thats the max level that seems practical. But recently I am running into skills that need a V requirement(Industry, Science, Electronics, etc). My min training for a level V is like 5D something.
I already trained all the corresponding learning skills to level IV. The 3 or so hours I gain from a LvL V learning bonus hardly seems worth it. I also shopping for better implants.
Any other suggestion on how to reduce training time further?
Wow. That's just adorable. He thinks 5 days is a long time to wait for a skill.
Here's what you do, buddy:
Bite the bullet and take your 6 basic learning skills to V, then take the 5 advanced skills to IV. (You can ignore this advice for Charisma if you like: It's not as useful as the others.)
At the same time plug +3 implants into Perception, Intel, Willpower, and Memory, and a +2 or +1 into charisma, again that's the place to cheese out on your implants.
After all that, your time to go to level V will drop from 5 days to 3 days 18 hours, or thereabouts.
Then here's the important part. Check out the information on the market about the skill Signal Aquisition, (RANK 8!!!) and realize that 5 days is nothing: The poor slobs who need to take Signal Acquisition to level V are looking at a solid month for one measly skillup, and if they're really into exploration, they're almost forced to do it.
Oh, but it's even worse than that! Battleship skills are also rank 8. Carrier skills are rank 14. Titan skills, (OK, not a skill many people are inclined to train,) are an incomprehensible rank 16.
All the skills that are prereqs, Industry, Science, Electronics, are all rank 1. That means they cost 1/8th the skill points of a rank 8 skill like battleships. Trust us: You've got it easy.
I'd say things are going to get worse before they get better, but that implies at one point or another they're going to get better. Skills cost more and more as you get to the higher level skills and higher levels with them. The learning skills and premium implants can speed up your training only so much.

O sweet, only 55 days 14hrs for Amarr Carrier 5, not to bad....That was 10 days ago. Every day I log on and check, as if i expect some skill fairy to come by and speed things up. Oh well. Fighters 5 wont be to bad either....

I've also been playing for a month and a half now... in the beginning I had no idea what I was going to do, I started with good skills for mining (Refining and Mining V, namely) but I was considering specializing in mission running... until I came across Halada's mining guide and decided I was going to train for the Hulk.
In the beginning I veered away from rank 1 level 5s because six days seemed like an eternity. However when I decided I was going to specialize in mining I realized I was looking at almost two months' worth of training, so I decided to just bite the bullet and get on with it. In the beginning EVEMon told me I was looking at around 50 days' worth of training, I trained up Logic and popped a +3 int and +3 perc in and lo and behold I had chopped off an entire week out of the training time. Right now I'm looking at finishing the basics for the Hulk/Covetor around the 26th of April.
A good thing about specializing is that you can focus on getting specific skill types' training time down. I was looking at 15 days for Astrogeology V but after training Logic to level 3 and popping in the +3 int, it went down to just 12 days. Of course, there's always the disadvantage that for a lot of the careers in EVE you need a ship to practice them in - which means that, in my case, with 18 perception, Mining Barge V is going to take a while.
The only thing I regret right now is having spent those precious weeks with my head in the clouds... if I'd started speccing then, I'd be looking at about half a month of training left right now ... Tsanir |

My character is about 11 weeks old, and i spent quite a bit of time on learning, my attributes are 27-17-18-20-19. with all +3 implants. I had made some long term plans with Evemon and getting learning up there is very necessary. Has shaved quite alot of time off my ultimate Evil plan..... Muwahahahaha..........

I just recently plateued my miner once I hit retreiver.. So I could concentrate on training up my combat alt. My next step is Battleships and I will be in a rohk in about 5 days on my combat pilot that was created to fight.. compared to 16 days on my miner...
Now that my miner trainning is done I am working on the compbat alt to fight and rat to actually make money in the new drone regions as the rats ou there totally destroy the mining profession.

Edited by: Ansuru Starlancer on 24/03/2007 23:12:34 Train your base (NOT advanced...advanced to 4, no more!) learning skills to 5 (they'll pay for themselves a few months down the road), buy +4 implants (recommend having at least one alternate jump clone set up for risk-taking first), and suck it up. My fastest rank 1 skills train level 5 in a little under 4 days. The ones I care about most atm take 8-11 days. The ones I say I'll get around to take from 23 to 35 days :p

I really wish Level V was never a prerequisite for other skills. Requiring Level V for some specific and awesome ships is okay, but needing it for other skill is very annoying. For example, needing Level V of the learning skills to get the next set of learning skills. Once you have V, you just surge ahead and basically get another +3 free points to that stat because the lower levels of the advanced are just so much easier and shorter.

You just need level IV of the basic ones . ~Soi ______________________________
