Edited by: Windryder on 15/03/2007 11:25:58 Dumb question, but...
Why do Mining Foreman Gang-Assist Modules have to be installed in a Battlecruiser?
You're out there in the 'roid belts... Covetors and Retrievers strip-mining vast tracts, Ospreys nipping around to survey and finish-off the pebbles... Giant industrial ships gliding majestically out of warp (okay, more like tumbling sideways out of warp with their pilots screaming in terror) to haul away the ore, the afterburners of the sentry frigates leaving trails in the Black as they go about their rounds.. and there, overseeing it all... the Mining Director... in his Battlecruiser. Mining Barge? Nope. Industrial? Nope. Transport? No. Mining Cruiser? Nah... in his Ferox. Or his Brutor. Or his Drake. Or his Nighthawk. Yup - some of the toughest combat ships to grace to the Black and its what he has to pilot in order to run the module that helps his guys burn rocks with lasers.
Please tell me it's the mining equivalent of the corner office, because other than that it just doesn't seem to make sense for me.

Battlecruisers and command ships are ships specifically designed for gang-support through warfare links. The Mining Foreman Links ARE warefare links, thus go into battlecruisers and command ships.
And doesnt it make more sense to have someone coordinate gang actions for higher efficiency sitting in a dedicated 'command ship' instead of a hauler or ore-sucker? :)
Oh and it's "Brutix". Brutor is this Minmatar tribe-thingy.

Does the big boss of a mining company go down into the pits and get covered in coal dust every day with his employees?
Nope, he makes the big decisions, sitting away from the coal face, nice and safe, but kicking ass if needed.
That's how I look at it anyway!

Nothing prevents you from fitting mining lasers on a BC/CBC ... before the Barges came in the game, we used Battleships to mine (and I still do, while my Barge skill is raising, my Apoc mines more than the Retriever I can fly at the moment).
I find it quite logical in fact, having a couple of combat ships to protect the rather frail barges and industrials seem like a good idea ... no ?

I would like to use this thread to ask, again, for at least a timeframe that we can expect the drone links to get into the game and work? (and rigs as well!?!) It has been a LONG time coming, and I know drone boosting modules give you (CCP) guys fits, but can we get something other than soon? If I am using a BC to get the mining option it would be nice to use it to help out the gang's drones as well.

Actually I'm not sure it is logical.
Yes, you guys have made some logical justifications, that I can't deny - nor deny that I expected them but...
I don't think it is logical that the director of a mining operation has to be an experienced combat pilot (i.e. has to be able to fly Battlecruisers or Command Ships).
I know they are "Gang-warfare" modules but I find it hard to see mining as warfare. And I find a justifcation of "Battlecruiser-only" usage based on the name of the module alone, not the use of the module to be...unsatisfying. You wouldn't accept "Kinetic Energy Projectors" coming off Energy Turret just from the name because you'd know the sodding things are actually guns.
Now, a T2 Barge using Mining Links instead of strip-miners? I'd pay that.

Well, as said in a recent dev blog, every action in eVe can be considered a form of PvP ...
Mining to make ships/modules ... that are mainly used by the PvP crowd, a carebear (like myself) rarely loses a ship, so don't need replacements ...
Yes, it's a bit strange, but that's the way it is at the moment.
