I am at about 1 mil sp atm, with about 400k of them in learning skills. I'd like to get into the "manufacturing" side of the game and was wondering what skills will be needed and beneficial for that type of skill line. Any other information to better myself in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Mass Production - Increases number of jobs you can run Industry - Reduces build time Production Efficiency - Decreases minerals needed to build (Very Important skill) train it to at least 4
Then you have the skills that help you with your blueprints Metallurgy - Reduces time to research ME Research - Reduces time to research PE Laboratory Operation - Increases number of research jobs you can run Science - Reduces time to copy a blueprint

ME = Material Efficiency. Higher ME reduces the amount of minerals required to build the item.
PE = Production Efficiency. Higher PE reduces the time taken to build the item.

Why the effect sems to diminish for extensive research, I mean... -VS- |

ME only reduces waste, there is a "perfect" amount. In your example, perfect might be 99 Trit bars. ME:0 has 11 units of wastage... that's the only number you can reduce with ME. You'll never get below 99, even if you went to ME 9999999.

At ME0 a blueprint generally has 10% waste. Each level of ME research reduces that waste. If a perfect build takes 100 Tritanium bars, adding 10% waste makes that 110 Tritanium bars at ME0.
It works something like this:
ME0 = 10% waste (110 Tritanium bars) ME1 = 10/2 = 5% waste (105 Tritanium bars) ME2 = 10/3 = 3.3% waste (103 Tritanium bars) ME3 = 10/4 = 2.5% waste (102 Tritanium bars) ... ME20 = 10/21 = 0.48% waste (100 Tritanium bars = perfect build)
With invention there is now also negative ME levels. I had a ME -7 blueprint, which had 60% waste. I don't know how the formula works there.
(sorry for continuing the OT postings but the original question seemed to have been answered already)

Edited by: Mudkest on 17/03/2007 11:44:13 also would like to add trade skills. supply chain managment lets you set/finish manufactering jobs remotly, but what's the point if you ahve to fly there to set up (mineral) buy orders and sell the itmes you build ;)
- trade/retail/wholesale/tycoon, allows you to have more orders on the market, so you can sell/buy more things
- accounting reduces sales tax(expensive skill though and takes quite a bit of trading to earn the cost back, but who cares about that, less tax!) - broker relations, reduces the cost to set up orders(usualy 1% of total value, lowered by standings as well)
- marketing, lets you sell items remotly, usefull to have at same level as supply chain managment(if you can finish the job you can sell the goods) - procurement, lets you set buy orders remotly, usefull to buy minerals at the station where your bpo's are without having to fly there(usefull to ahve at same level or higher as supply chain managment) - visibility lets you set the buy range on remote placed buy orders. not that interesting in this aspect imo, why place a buy order 10 jumps away so you wont have to fly to the station, only to have to fly there because not all minerals were sold at the station? yes you can create a fed-ex contract, but then its only going to cost you more(both time and ISK0 to have the item constructed
- daytrading lets you adjust the price of remote orders, someone undercutting your sales price, lower the price without having to go back to the station. You cant alter ammounts bought/sold this way though(helps to have at same or higher leve then supply chain managment)
- margin trading, if you place a buy order you dont have to put all the money into the market, jsut part of it when you create the order and the rest when someone sells tihngs to you. If you dont have the ISS to fill the order when someone tries to sell things the deal is off, personaly I dont bother with this as I am constantly low on ISK so rather not set an order up I cant afford ;)
some of these skills are rather costly but can be well worth it
edit: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=398536 handy tool to help with researching of BPO's, can tell if it help to get that blueprint researched to ME 20 or not
-Duct tape might hold the univurse together, but it's coffee that makes it tick |

Just wondering, does Supply Chain Management also allow you to finish / "deliver to hanger" a job remotely? --- --Any sufficiently advanced bureaucracy is indistinguishable from molasses.-- |
