Pod jumping! Set your medical clone to where you want to go, undock and selfdestruct your pod. BAM to behold, you've just traveled halfway across the galaxy. For the return trip, remember to buy a new clone

Edited by: Voerung Gibson on 16/03/2007 07:25:05 The self-destruct feature is meant for people who want to destroy they ship while being scrambled with no hope of escape, and thus denying the opponnent the kill mail.
This is usually carriers and freighters who use it (in my experience).

I personally think that self destruct should act as an offensive weapon. Only one warning in local :D
but thats not for this forum.

Scenario:
I find an industrial ship with tons of good loot that I want.
Industrual pilot has expensive implants.
I activate a warp scrambler on said industrial.
Knowing that I'll be much more rich with all the loot in his hold not being blown up, and Mr. Bear not wanting to lose billions in +5 implants, we agree that he will eject from his ship, and warp away.
I commandeer his industrial.

I consider it to be probably the most self-explanitory feature in the entire game, really. :)

You know you're going to die and you eject from the pod
Utterly surprising to the attacker.. you get an extra few seconds to warp away as he recoups and tries to lock your pod.
This has been done to me, it's worked nicely and the pod escaped, but I learned my lesson.
Self destruct.. sorta the same scenario. You think "Ok, half hull, he's dead in a sec" the poof it's gone, and the pod gets an extra few secs to RUN!

So... Self-destruct doesn't mean entire contents (bar your pod) taken with it. Right?

no it destroy the ship, then you have to self distruct the pod to die.
And for eject ... let's see, you got a pos without a ship maintenance array (or where the ship maintenance array has restricted access), how do you swap ship ? Get the ship there, eject, go back to empire with shuttle/self distruct, get other ship there.
They are ton of use for eject. ----

OK, I clearly worded that wrong:
When you SD your ship - already knew that the pod is spared - but are the entire contents of the ship's cargohold and module slots destroyed?

Anti-griefing tool.
1. Griefer warp scramblers you. 2. Griefer brings ship down to hull. 3. Griefer warp scramblers you at 10% hull but doesn't kill you. Griefer sits all day and laughs at you and you can't escape.
You self-destruct to counter that grief tactic. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

Does a self destruct command still work if you eject after you issue the command?

I believe they do, infact, once I set my rookie ship to self destruct, I was in the next system over and in mid warp when I see a message notifying me it self destructed... was kinda funny as I had sorta "forgotten" about it.
Just a word of warning though, never go to self destruct, then dock, because this could lead to blowing whatever you undock with up, not sure on it 100%. However, I know it continues onwards, the part I don't know for sure is it carrying over ontot he new ship or something.
Example: I enter self destruct, wait 30 seconds, and still have 90 seconds left till it blows. I dock and am in the station for more than 90 seconds, the second I undock I explode.
