If I understand things correctly reseach agents help you generate reseach points. The points are used when new BP are introduced to the game, more point = greater chance of scoring the BP.
Now the question, there are a loot of diffrent reseach fields/skills, does a reseach project just generate reseach points in general or are the point marked to reflect the actual field the reseach project is about? I other words, do you have a greater chanse of geting a BP for a new AB if you have been gating reseach points from projects regarding propultion tech then some one with as many points but from reseach in a diffrent field? Or are the diffrent reseach-skills in fact pointless? |

The points are field-based, and do indeed give you chance against only a limited subset of blueprints.

Thank you! Both for the answer and for the fact that it matters wich reseach I do |

Can anyone give us any hints as to which sets of blueprints are tied to which fields? Im not asking so much about ships, but the less 'obvious' things like drones and med/low slot modules.
And does the corporation and race play any part? for example, is doing research with a gallente ship making corp more likely to get me a gallente ship blueprint than doing research in the same field with a minmatar ship maker, or is doing research with a drone maker more likely to get me drone bps than doing research with a gun maker? (in both cases, im assuming everything else is equal - same field, same no. of research points, same agent level/quality etc.)

No comment on the BP->field issue.
corp and race only plays a part in what skills the agents have in the basic system. We may introduce some blueprints with a storyline relationship to corps and such, but as a general rule, probably not. Sometimes it would however make sense.

"The points are field-based, and do indeed give you chance against only a limited subset of blueprints."
Is knowing the skill for given research field the only requirement to receive blueprint from that field?
I.e. suppose i have a Rocket Science project active... does it mean i have a chance to obtain any blueprint from the Rocket Science subset, or do i need to know some additional science skills like Laser Physics or whatever for some specific Rocket Science modules?

If it's a ship BP, the agent must also have the appropriate starship engineering skill. Otherwise, that's the only requirement.

Great, was afraid would have to train whole science tree just so i don't miss something...thank you for the fast reply, Papa Smurf. ^^

Hi Papa.
Here's where I'm still confused. If I start a research project in, say, High Energy Physics, but my research agent also has the Gallente Starship skill, am I earning points towards a "Starship Field" blueprint lottery or only a "High Energy Physics Field" blueprint lottery?
In other words, is the "field" of research something that is singularly specific to each agent based on the combination of research skills that agent posesses?
Or, is the "field" of research dependant solely on MY research skills, and MY choice of which type of project to start?
Thank you very much for your input.

Well, I'm not Papa....
Most blueprints have multiple research fields, especially starships. Everyone who has rp's in *any* one of those fields will participate in the lottery for that starship bp *if* their agent has that starship skill.
People who are researching starship skills will *only* be eligible to participate in starship lotteries. Since they have a much lower number of lotteries they would be eligible for, they get a boost to their research points (3x).

Crownan, i've heard of people getting a 2 * bonus, and it wasn't for starship engineering. I was under the impression that the bonus rate was based on Race / Corp / Skill ----------------------------------------------- IÆm not schizophrenic... ThatÆs my alt

The 4 starship research fields get a 3x bonus. There are also 4 racial weapons research fields that only get a 2x bonus (I assume because the number of bp's is larger).
Graviton - Caldari Laser - Amarr Nuclear - Minmater Plasma - Gallante

Shouldn't have to point this out, but the starship skills are also race based....

so researching plasma physics for an agent that also does gallente starship engineering would put me in the running for both blasters and gallente starship bps?

Only if that Gallanteen starship blueprint had Plasma physics as one of it's requisite fields. I do not think this will be the case though. When you pick one of the racial bonus fields, you are specializing for one type of blueprint. That is why you get the bonus.

Thanks for the info, Crownan. Where did you read this? I'd love to see some sort of "official" set of rules come out of CCP one of these days.

CCP, understandably, does not like to put every game mechanic out. So, I wouldn't expect official word on every aspect/formula/etc. A lot of this is left for the players to discover, some of it is left so give "wiggle" room for tuning and changes.
A lot of information like this just comes from testing experience during the months of development of Castor on the Chaos server. Other bits come from clues and hints and general ramblings of the ever so available PapaSmurf, who spends a *lot* of time pinging testers with his ideas.
