Quote: Xetic: There's a point in situations such as this where discussion makes you appear generally peaceful and honestly desiring a political solution. There also comes a point when further discussion makes you appear weak. It is human nature.
Take CFS for example. They have laid claim to a wealthy protectorate. Once station construction is in game or maybe even just mobile refineries I believe they will be besieged with hostile forces attempting to gain control for themselves. Why? No offense CFS but imo the PvP corps of eve perceive them as weak due to past wars and such. This perception will make them a prime target when someone is looking for territory. Between now and that point they need to train and field a powerful military or re evaluate their alliances goals.
Xetic is at such a cross roads. Hopefully you know the strength and capabilities of your military forces. If they are not up to the task then the Xetic alliance must put a much greater effort into making that military capable of defending the interests of your alliance.
If you believe your military is capable then you must act with blinding force. Evol is not to be underestimated and they have they offensive advantage. You will certainly lose ships... no doubt. However one must always remember that loses now often stave off future conflicts based on rep. Even a lost war if fought with heart and ferocity is better then to be seen as an alliance that will not fight to back up it's claims.
War also serves the purpose of training and honing a militaries skills. While war is expensive there are returns on that cost that many do not consider.
I do recommend that if your military is not up to it that you train and fund them well and either recruit or hire PvP corps to reinforce your military.
Remember, the only valid claim to territory is one enforced by might.
Duke, I agree with to you to a point. The point being that we are not yet at war with Evolution. Our losses to them are minor only at this moment.
The only thing bothering us is their total disregard for any diplomatic initiative. For this only, we will not go to war lightly. This is not a matter of not being able to fight, it is a matter of principle. The production strenghth of the IF is huge. It will suffice to say we are not likely to run out of ships anytiome soon in case of a war.
But this is not important as we dont want that war to happen. We might defend ourselves at some point, but since we can easily afford the loss of a few industrials we don't want to get involved in the CA/SA/CC war.
Let me underline once more (what the H. let's do it again yes):
As far as we are concerned, the CA/ SA CFS or CC of whatever alliance out there, has no reason to attack us. We are neutral to all of them. We do NOT have secret dealings with Curse or Stain Alliance or any other party. We only work for ourselves.
Our neutrality is kept by three means: - We don't take a threathening position towards any other alliance by default. - We use diplomacy to make our neutrality official (done with CA/SA and CC) - Any party that would have us give up this neutrality runs the risk of us rather joining the other side... We don't respond well to non-diplomatic pressure.
We still believe these three will get through to Evolution at some point. Maybe this time we can't amke it official, but just maybe Evol will send out some team orders eh ? _______________________________________________

Well if that works it will be a first and I wouldn't hold my breath. Human nature from childhood through adult life to the grander scale of governments hold the same basic truth. When dealing with a bully mentality, words, threats, logical discussion are useless. Brute force is the ONLY thing that these types understand.
It is not just the bully types either. It's human nature to gauge a person (corp, alliance, etc) by how they handle confrontational situations. Just as children see what a parent will let them get away with and continue to push those boundaries farther so does the human animal in nearly all aspects of interaction with others.
Although it goes against the more civilized persons outlook, swift acts of force (once a certain line is crossed) actually prevents a large amount of warfare in the long run as the less civilized think twice before targeting you in the first place. Deterence based on certain violent retribution.
Btw, the statement about them forcing you to take sides and possibly assist their enemies doesn't really make sense to me. If your goal is to remain neutral in the alliance war then why does it make sense to allow them to force you to take sides which is exactly what you apparently do not want? It seems to me that direct action against the ones that are attacking you still allows you to maintain your neutrality with the warring alliances and deal with the problem at the same time? With that in mind it comes off as an illogical and empty threat.

Edited by: Mordessa on 25/12/2003 01:46:41 Wow you get sick for a while and the whole galaxy is at war...
Xetick,
As I stated before I have been away for a while, but may I ask this question? Do you have your pilots monitor local while traveling through possible hot spots or areas near hot spots? It may help this whole situation out immensly if your pilots did, and if they detect us, announce yourselves to us. If we know you are coming and let us know ahead of time, then it could be possible for us to not instantly lock and fire upon your ships while we are at a war zone. This is our practice, our livelyhood our way of surviving wars. He who hesitates to see if that shadowy figure coming at them in the night is a friend or foe will only die learning the truth of the identity.
After all it is he who does those actions first that will usually win the engagement.
I advise you contact our CEO and talk to him about a possible agreement in that regard. Perhaps its not too late or maybe it is, who knows but what have you got to loose?

Mordessa,
Thanks for your friendly post. I think part of the problem (most incident at jump in points) is solved now. We are avoiding the trouble spots as best as we can and maybe in time, something might be worked out.

Been hearing this line since early beta days & still waiting for this unbeatable 500+ member alliance to arrive and put us in our place. In fact, this is kinda what the Curse Alliance was meant to be.
Maybe it's something you could work on in your spare time, Primer?

See thats the frustrating thing about Evolution. Even if you did manage to rally a big multi-corp alliance to fight them, they would probably thank you for it.
