Could someone please verify that when you show info on a research agent and see the folowing:
You need a 4.80 standing and a 2.80 corp standing to use this service.
Is the first standing EMPIRE standing?

Nope, it's your highest standing out of faction, corporation and agent standing. If any of those are over 4.80 then he will be activated.

Not possible...
I'm using a lvl 3 research agent right now, he required 4.80 & 2.80 corp.
I have 2.77 faction with the corp. the only other faction standing I have above 2.80 is my Caldari faction. it is at 4.84...
All my standings with individual agents is lower than the 2.77, yet I have a lvl 3 research agent...

Ok, my bad, I do have a faction standing with an agent that is at 5.97...
So for sure, Empire faction has nothing to do with getting a research agent?

I would imagine that the level 3 agent you have then is of poor quality or you have connections or a combination of both.
The standing of 4.8 requirement is based on the higher of your corp standing, your personal standing with that agent, or your faction standing.

Just to thoroughly cloud the issue, I've already begun a research project with an R&D agent which, according to his corp's agent list, isn't available to me yet.

The R&D agent I have is lvl 3, +16 quality.
His effective quality is 26.

I'm thinking Standing refers to your personal standing with the NPC Corp, but Corp Standing may be your Corps standing with the NPC Corp. Take a look at the tab Standing -> Relationships in the NPC Corps info. |

The first number refers to your highest standing whether it is Faction Standing, Corp Standing or Agent Standing. The second number is the minimum Corp Standing. Of course if your Corp Standing is your highest and meets the first number, then the it also satisfies the second. But if you use Faction or Agent standing to meed the first requirement, then you must also develop a Corp Standing to meet the second. Usually by working with a lower level agent. This means that you do have to work your way up in the company and also behave and not kill all their convoys or **** off other agents in the company.
Also, remember the Connections skill can reduce all the requirements by 2.00 at level 5. So if an agent requires a 2.6 corp standing and you have level 4 Connections (-1.6), you will only need a 1.0 corp standing to meet the requirements.
The next update to the agent system will take your social skills into account when you view the agents in the corp listing.

Just a note until the agent info fix. When you look at an agent's faction requirements (only visible if you don't meet them), do the math yourself and subtract .4 for every level of Connections you have. That will be your target number and the agent will become available when you hit it.

I understand that this is exactly correct.

Dude. Papa Smurf explained in the Agents FAQ what the formula is for Connections / social / etc. and what you have said here is patently incorrect. Go look at the Agent FAQ thread for truthful information.

This question has now been answered by Papa Smurf, in the FAQ thread up at the top.
In short, if an agent says "you need a standing of 4.73 to use this service", then you can use him once any of three values reach 4.73: your standing with him personally, his corporation, or his faction.

A player's corporation standing towards an NPC corp has no effect on the agent system currently.
Derived standings as far as agents and other NPC systems will be introduced at a later date, probably with the Shiva upgrade.

Isn't the second number, "corp standing" unde research agents the required standing that your corporation has to have with the NPC corp, though? I.e., 4.95 and 2.95, the 2.95 refers to the BioMass Cartel standing with the NPC corp that I would need to use his research services?

I was asking everyone but you, kthx
and I would only be trolling if I were posting obnoxious replies without a purpose, and the purpose in this case was to correct you and prevent everyone reading the thread from getting the wrong idea about what the connections skill does.
So I wasn't trolling. Go f*ck yourself you dirty c*ckgobbler.
