Has anyone noticed any standing increases from using the connections skill? I trained it up from level 2 to 3 last night, which should have raised my faction - but hasn't. Has anyone else noticed this, or know how it actually works?

Read Papa Smurf's comments in this thread to find out how it works.

I read his reply and it is still not working.
I have 5 corps with posative (not 0.0) standing. I took screenshot of it to make sure and trained to lvl1. No effect not even 0.00000001 Trained connections lvl2. Same thing. Some people say the charecter sheet is not showing the effect but when I use a refiner @ a station it shows no effect either.
It is broken right now. Please fix CCP

It works, it just doesn't show up on your "standings" sheet. You need to look at the information for an Agent or Corporation. It will then show you in the "Relationship" section what your total effective standing is when all Social skills are applied.
It boosts my Caldari State faction almost 0.8 so it's doing something.

As with a lot of stuff with t2 update, IT DOES NOT WORK. I have got lvl 4 and still nothing is happening. A lot of players are saying roll back to before patch and leave it where it was. The way things are going we will loss even more players. Agents missions a becoming a dead loss as it is, with out training skills to help and then finding out they are naf

For those of you having trouble with the Social skills - Connections, Criminal Connections and so on - try upgrading to v. 1360. This optional patch includes a slightly improved agent interface and should show you basically what Veruna described.
From initial reports, the Social skills are working fine. It's just that with v. 1352, a lot of players have trouble seeing it.

My relations is raised to 2.75 wuth lvl 3 Connections from 1.76 as shown in Kaalakiota Corp Relationship page...

It works, though it seems to work opposite how I'd think it did. It could be because I'm not running the optional patch.
As it appears on my box, my actually corp standing doesn't change, but I have access to agents that I otherwise wouldn't have. As an examble. I was working towards an agent with a 3.10 requirement last night. I had a 2.77 and I finished training my connections skill. All of a sudden that agent would talk to me.

This is exactly the effect of connections skill without the optional patch.
i.e. the effects are "hidden" - And still are if you're only looking at the standings sheet and not the "relationship" tab of a corp or agent.
Connections is partially broken - It works fine w.r.t. agents (increases EQ and reduces requirements), but does not have any effect on refining yields. (i.e. most of the social skills are not working well for non-agent stuff, although refining is about the only non-agent place social skills are used.) Papa knows this issue exists and plans on fixing it sometime this month. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

It does work, but it gives mixed results. To find the correct standings, get the info of the agent u are using and chech their standings then reltionship tabs. It doesn't always give the right results (often higher tho mostly lower than your connection bonus) or at least the ones the game uses

I have connections 3 and I find it is continually being turned on and off. While doing consecutive missions I will get some where connections has been incorporated into my standing while the next mission may use my base standing without connections. So it becomes very difficult ot use an agent which I need connections to access because I may only get to do one or two missions before the connections skill is taken out of my standing and the agent won't talk to me anymore. Also the agent rewards are adjusted down quite a bit when connections isn't working. This is fairly annoying and may stop me doing many agent missions until it's fixed.

Edited by: Duncan on 31/12/2003 18:08:25 My agent info tells me that taking into account my connection skill at lvl3 (per description of the skill it increases per 0.4 per level your standing against friendly npc corps) it only raises me 0.16 for agents, 0.27 against corp and 0.77 against faction and not the promised 1.2 standing increase on NPC CORPS.
when u add up the total bonus given to each it comes to 1.2 standing increase, but the way i read the description skill i was expecting my corp standing only to be increased, but in fact the total bonus is spread out over the 3 standings faction-corp-agent.
Is this by design? Anyone else noticed this?

As per Papa SMurf's post (somewhere in this forum) connection skill in reality increases you standing by 4% of difference between your current standing and maximum standing... In other words, if your standing is 0, then yes you'd get 0.4 increase. If it is say 5, you'd only get (10-5) * 0.04 = 0.2 increase.
Clear enough? Your Heavy Neutron Blaster II perfectly strikes Serpentis Chief Sentinel, wrecking for 660.4 damage.

Edited by: NGRU Rix on 02/01/2004 09:38:20 No, not clear enough. The text in the game states a 0.4 increase not a 4% increase. If it were a 4% icrease then all the agents who have me at 0.0 becuase I never used them would still have me at 0.0 and not 1.6. 4% of 0.0 is 0.0.
The skill states that it increases the standing by 0.4 for ever lever trained. So, with the skill trained to Level 4 I should get 1.6 on top of the base standings.
Either one of two things are happening :
1) It does not work properly when there is an actual standing present (above 0.0). 2) It is detailed incorrectly in the skill description.
I have it trained to level 4 and my 3.97 standing with an agent should be 5.57 right now and not 4.93, that is a whopping .63 difference. All 0.0 Standing agents are at 1.6 right now so, it can't be a percentage.
EDIT: Read Papa Smurf's post - they need to detail these skill settings correctly in the game because they way it is described in the game is not the way it really works and that stinks.

Just to clarify some things... I don`t know if it is supposed to work this way but I find it correct and logical: The increase of say 1,6 is calculated upon the remaining to get to 10! So in NGRU`s case we have: 3,97 standing - 6,03 to get to perfect 10. 6,03x0,16=0,9648 3,97+0,9648=4,93 approx
Nuff said, cheers!

The skill is broke. I have a 3.21 status with the kaal. corp. and can't use agents that the corp list says I can.

Sorry, for me works. Not as it is described, but still. Someone already wrote the formula for it. It adds 4% of (10 - your current standing) per level of Connections Skill. Pretty useful when you start to work for a new corp - with little work and 3 lvls you can work for Poor Quality Level II agents. Right now with 1.90 standing + 3 lvls of connections I work for Level II agent with a decent quality. _________________
