Edited by: Waarph on 19/03/2007 09:08:32 Hello,
So I have trained the necessary skills to salvage but I can't find the hardware necessary to actually salvage things...
In which categroy is this all hidden (turrets, etc...)? Thanks in advance.
Have a fun game :)

Rather than attempting to traverse the market place you can do searches too. In the market place select the second tab and in the search field type something like 'salv'.

Can anyone provide any information on "WHAT" I can salvage with my skill at 4?

The salvaging skill only improves your chance for a successful salvage by 5% for each level. So wrecks like everybody else except you have a better chance of being successful.

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday, 3/20), you can salvage wrecks whether they are empty or not. Up until that point (basically just today) the wreck needed to be completely empty.
I'm unsure if salvaging a wreck not owned by you will cause aggression or a timer of any sort. I can't imagine it would, but that's just my own speculation.
Salvaging a wreck gets you various parts to make rigs. You need lots of salvaged materials (hundreds) from various factions of ships. I believe the Rogue Drones have the widest variety of salvagable materials at this point in time. There are plenty of spreadsheets, tables, programs, websites, etc with data on what is salvaged from who, what parts are required for rigs, everything. Check the 'Ships and Modules' forum for info on that.

I basically run missions and salvage the wrecks I create. You could run about the belts however it is tough to fit a salvage ship with decent fire power.
So I run missions in a cruiser than switch to a destroyer I have specially fit for salvaging. My setup is something like 4 x salvagers and 1 x tractor beam.
It is very rare that somebody appears in your mission encounter area so I really don't fit much else less a afterburner for more speed.
The wrecks provide broken or malfunctioning items that you can sell on the market for decent coin or create rigs with.... I think. Salvaging is a lot like mining.

Currently Salvaging Level III is all you really need to have. Some wrecks, such as T2 ships and some Officer wrecks, require Salvaging III to salvage. Other than that, the only benefit of higher skill levels is to speed up the process.
Salvage bits can indeed be sold for decent coin. Certain rigs sell for a pretty penny as well. Personally I prefer to hoard salvage to make rigs for myself and my corp. I don't profit off of it directly, but instead profit indirectly by having more effective ships. I'd be happy to chat about it ingame if you happen to catch me.

Salvaging a wreck does not trigger aggression (although emptying it of loot does).
Whether this will still be applicable after tomorrow remains to be seen.

I was very frustrated when I first started salvaging. It seemed to take forever to get a successful salvage from one wreck. Then someone told me to salvage faster use more then one (preferably 3) salvage mods at a time. It also seems to go faster if you hum the theme from Sanford & Son while salvaging. Try standing on your head in the corner and drinking Pepsi-max while humming the tune - it it reduces salvage time even further. Cheers Baka ______________________ Have a Skill in training every second of every day and never let your bank balance sink below your skill points. |

Do any of the Rigs BPC require metal scraps for construction?
