I think it should be impossible for nuisance wardec's!
I'm not talking about ones where you do actually fight, I'm talking about ones where ONE man corps declare war on you with no intention of ever leaving the station. Wardec's which are purely to make life difficult when competing for asteroid belts.
It wouldn't be half as bad if there were some way to identify the persons main. You could at least Wardec his mains corp and give some payback. But to be Wardec'd for no other reason than to be annoying is wrong on so many levels.
I'd suggest making a minimum member count of 5 or 6 (in the declaring corp) before a Corp can make war.
We have just been declared on in this manner. It won't stop or even hinder our mining, but it will result in a few members not being able to rat hunt or run missions as they will have to stand guard all day, every day for the miners. I don't think it's right that a single person is going to prevent half a dozen gamers from playing the game at all. They will have to sit outside his station on guard duty for days on end without ever even having the opportunity to kill anything.

Then who cares?
About as pointless as complaining about afk cloakers, rofl.
Just leave a alt watching him, thats really the max extend of it.

Edited by: Elgar Lightfoot on 19/03/2007 11:25:21 It's not that easy though. We have to constantly monitor him, and his corp. If anyone joins his corp then we are set on guard duty all day every day as we have no idea who the others are. Even with just him in the corp we still have to have someone guard him and everyone has to be alert to switch roles the instant he moves.
EDIT: In adition, to leave an 'alt' watching him, thats one player at least who has been prevented from playing. They are being forced to sit and watch this one player to see if he makes any move.
I'm sure this isn't the intention of Wardec's. I don't mind fighting a war, but I'm loath to sit there and waste my day when theres no chance of a fight.
I wonder if a wardec with no intention of fighting would be classed as exploiting a game mechanic.

Well the good thing is that the devs have been talking alot about victory conditions for wars- which makes wars like the ones you talk about end quickly enough I guess....you cant win if you dont leave the station

It would be nice to know there was some penalty for losing a war too. It might actually encourage more to fight.
At the moment any one man band can declare war and then sit there doing nothing for as long as they are willing to pay.

On that note, wardecs on small(like 1-4) corps from a 40 member corp should be looked into also.
As they, declare war, and then evidently can retract it even if it's mutual.

Many MMOs require corporations (guilds or whatever) to have XX number of members to form and to maintain a minimum level of membership or the guild is automatically defunct. I'm not sure CCP want to go down that road; but I don't think there is any problem with the argument that "token" corporations could stand to lose some functionality. Think of how many stations are totally booked solid with basically defunct corps, etc. I doubt CCP would change it, because there would be a lot of complaints...but I don't think something like requiring 5 (or pick some other arbitrary number) of distinct accounts active in a corp in order for it to be able to declare war would be a bad thing.

Yes, bloody annoying!
It gets worse when the culprit actually succeeds in his ebil plans. one corp i was in somehow the ceo had a personal grudge with this person and the entire corp suffered from it cuz the ceo did nothing about it, morale dropped, members quit and at one point i found myself camping the station the wardeclarer was in all by myself...
Totally sucked and i blamed the ceo more of the corps demise then the wardec.
Offcourse u will know what happens if u need a minimum number of members, people will just make a few alts and stuff to get the req. numbers. So sadly it's prolly something we will have to live with. Resized tag... again... hope this pleases the tag ninjas from ccp... again :p

First of all, I have no pb being war decced although it does baffle me since I mostly live in 0.0 where it is not necessary. I would propose two changes to the war dec thing. First of all, war dec get cancelled automatically if after a certain amount of time you did not killed any ship of the corp you have war decced so that would force them to look for kill which is the purpose of a war dec. Also, the longer the war the more expensive is the cost of the war dec. So let say after a week you pay x amount, it is 2x after 2 weeks, 3x after 3 weeks ectc... This would make war a lot shorter and bloodier since it would force people to focus on the war thing. Also, it is not completely unreasonnable since in reality war get more and more difficult to maintain since you have attrition, corruption and cost to your supply line which should be reflected in its cost. ---------
Sadly I just make ISK, I don't print it. :(

You can however file a Harassment petition and see how the GMs would determine the situation, afaik there have been decs revoked because of the only reason for the dec was to annoy/disturb the gameplay of said targets, where the situation was like you describe it - a one man corp deccing larger corps without intention to fight, simply to annoy.

OMG you have to watch local? You have to have guards watching over your mining operations? Curses! EVE isn't mundane and you can't play with your brain shut off? This game is ruined. You can't even play this game! Certainly that's not a part of this game!
CCP should remove rats from the belts so you don't have to do anything at all except collect your cans filled with rocks. _____________________________________________________________________ "My once immaculate white pants are now stained from the weak and innocent. I don't wear red." |

Maybe get some more pvpers in corp and change your corp name to heavy foot industries?

Just a thought, but is there such a thing as a convenient war dec?

I just came from a privateers thread where the issue was too many people wardeccing.
Here the problem is too few people wardeccing.

The problem here is one-man corps wardeccing. Same problem, actually - nuisance wardecs.
This is not the irony you were hoping for.
Much more irony in your facetious "I <3 carebears", considering you do actually appear in every single thread where they're likely to be found.

Privateers and one man corps present the same problem?

How can a war dec be both very disrupting and pointless? You should pay the guy for encouraging you to follow proper operational security. Or just ignore him and risk the consequences. If he reads the forums he now knows the ISK he used for the dec was well spent. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose. - Janis Joplin |

I think I'm just going to petition harrassment if he doesn't make any attempt at fighting. No point in having a wardec if they are not going to fight.
I spent the day flying around to pick up new fittings for our ships, and refueling POS's. Getting ready for war, but I really don't think it's going to happen. Already he's wasted my time.
If only there were some way to see who his main was. Then you could serve up some retribution. Cowardly wardecs are the sign of children playing at adults games. I have no problem with proper Wardecs. I may even surrender to some, but ones like these are a waste (exploit) of game mechanics. As another poster said 'Harrassment'.

I like the idea of victory conditions for war decs purely from an RP perspective - it doesn't make a lot of sense that CONCORD would allow you to prosecute and endless and disruptive war in secure space where you might endanger other travellers (the flip side being that they let you to stop people from causing trouble anyway).

He's a 2 month old Alt. This is why it shouldn't be possible for one man corps to wardec. I say a minimum of 5 (non trial) members to war dec. At least then he has to use a minimum of two accounts to make a corp that can declare war.
As it is I doubt we'll see him outside the station. It won't affect our mining, our POS's or our mission runners, but it will affect those few who will have to stand guard 'just in case' he decided to be a fly on the camel's back.
