Edited by: Waxau on 19/03/2007 11:50:52 Today i pose a question...
Throughout the history of eve, we have always seen the larger alliances fight between themselves, with the smaller ones either taking sides, or going FFA on their asses.
But slowly and surely, the smaller ones imo are dying out. We're getting less 'major' alliances, and the member count on the major alliances are growing. So my question is this:
Will we see soon enough ONLY 2 large alliances pitted against each other, one on one, mano-a-mano? And if so, is that good or bad? Is it going to be a Allied Vs Axis fight? Good vs Evil? Custard vs Yogurt?
what are your thoughts? (I personally like Custard )

The principles of game inflation apply to player groups as much as anything..
1 group blobs, another will grow to match.. this spirals up to the point when the work on the top ppl is too much or were the internal differences force as much conflict internally as externally.. it isnt new to eve nvm to gaming _________________________ xMenta (DSMA) xBOS (CA) xATUK (.5.) xDICE (BOB) |

quantity alone doesnt count. Quality is more needed in alliance. It doesnt realy matter how big your numbers are.
look at second biggest alliance Curse Alliance now. They forgot the quality and went for the quantity. "If we have more we are better" actually it doesnt work like that.

Ever since the increased capital ship HPs in Revelations, smaller alliances have had to team up with bigger alliances or die.
Previously they could survive on their own without a large fleet, because removing their POSs meant the bigger alliance might lose a dread or two to the POS guns - and that was just enough of a deterent. As soon as the HP increase nullified the threat from the POS then any big alliance could take out a smaller one with minimal losses, hence "Nice area, we'll take it"
Just my interpretation of recent events....

I thought you were going to ask 'Daddy or chips?'.
If things get to big then pvpers will leave and go to smaller aggressive entities. Large prolonged conflicts are not bad things, fun for everyone and good for business too.
EVE is a big place and there will be plenty of conflict for a long time, regardless of who wins the current power block struggle things won't be sunshine and love afterwards.

I think the futur alliance terrytories will look like the actual south. Lots of major alliance exploiting their terrytorie to the maximum capability

I think the trends shows the opposite. Eve will be dominated by a number of smaller alliances instead of 1-2 large ones. _______________________________________________

Edited by: Kael Zeratul on 19/03/2007 12:20:18 Most people pose the question Quality or Quantity. Goons show that both are viable options. You have to always know tho that there are alliances Rising and falling. For every alliance that goes down another usually comes up not to say we know them in the main spectrum yet but im sure they will be there soon. All things that are must come to an end its just a matter of time and with that new things are born and breed.

I could sit and rant about this for ages but I'll try not to.
No-one can argue that Eve has changed a lot over the past few years but opinions will differ on whether it's been for the better or not. My personal view is that POS wars and large capital fleets have really made it difficult for many of the smaller corps and alliances to hold their own effectively. That's why many opt to join, nap or assume tenant status with one of the larger alliances.
That said, I don't believe it will ever come down to 2 big alliances. The 'sides' in the current war is probably as close as we'll ever get to that but you can be sure that once that is over, whatever the outcome, we'll be back to 3 or 4 major 'blocks' and misc naps with the smaller alliances as before.

You mean like all those hardcore pvpers rushing to leave an alliance of almost 2000 like BoB?
So long as the entity adopts a NBSI approach, keeps the blues list short and has an aggressive stance then size doesnt really matter all that much.
This is why big entities like bob, MC, AAA and outbreak are all able to retain good people and grow and others that were not aggressive (like ASCN) struggled to keep its better pvpers.
Personally I think the growth of supercapitals is killing the skill element of the game and turning into a war of the blobs, i.e. to take down a POS network you need 10 dreads, 10 carrier support, 50+ support ships + cov ops, + scouts + titan in the background to DD hostile gang, so the hostiles need all that and more = blob = lag = node death = boredom. .

Yogurt!
I think small alliances will always exist, as only the very best large alliances can survive major wars, the passage of time, and the changing of the universe. ------------

You need both.. You need the numbers to compete, and the quality to compete well.. It is just "easier" to get "just" numbers..
The obvious example here are the gank corps.. while they can provide great stats when they want, on an alliance lvl they mostly are insignificant..

It's my personal oppinion that larger alliances don't fare well under lots of presure, kinda like the "too many cooks in the kitchen" saying.
You got lots of corps with lots of diffrent voices, each with thier own idea of whats good for the alliance.
Then you have some other alliances, which are still large, but have only a hangful of corps with 1 common goal.
IMHO, smaller is better, but not too small, just small in the amount of corps in the alliance, not people.

People will always get sick of blobs, so small alliances will keep on forming.
I think smaller alliances have a shorter shelf life and are more open to change then the big ones, that's why it may appear they keep disappearing but in effect they're probably just mixing up a bit, joining bigger entities for a while, realising they don't like it and then reforming elsewhere.
With big alliances people seem to think it's more important to keep a name alive.
