WhereÆs the PVP?
Completely bored of running missions the other day I began bumping about the belts looking for fun. With in minutes I find a lonely Rifter in one of the belts but way on the other side of the asteroid cluster. His ship aligns with me and we begin the long, slow trip towards one another. (I swear it was like the scene from Austin Power where the guy is about to be run over by the steam roller.)
An info check shows we are about the same age. Eventually we lock on one another and the fight begins. What a blast of excitement! Afterwards we pat each other on the back in local and off I go looking for more PVP.
Local chat had 18 people. A 360 scan found 1 Badger and 5 shuttles so I made a couple of jumps. The next jump I found one Jaguar (certainly too much for my Rifter) and more shuttles. I jumped again only to find about the same thing..... lots of shuttles and one or two ships that simply out class me. What is up with the shuttles?
A quick map review found a 0.0 sector 7 jumps away. I keep hearing about all the crazy and wild PVP happening in 0.0 so this is going to be wild and crazy for sure. 7 jumps later I was very disappointed. After a few more jumps I sat wide open at a jump gate yelling shoot me to people passing by but nothing! Finally a Hurricane pulled up, locked and fired on me. I suppose one of the by passers went home to grab a ship for a guaranteed win.

It aint on the forums for sure! On a serious note, you didnt find pvp on your first search keep it up for a week or two and im sure you will have better luck.
Join an active pvp corp and im sure it will find you etc etc.

Edited by: Hannobaal on 19/03/2007 19:32:36 For sure, you will not find many even fights running around in a tech 1 frigate, and definitely not so in 0.0. And since you, apparently, weren't willing to take on bigger and badder targets that would surely kill you, I think that answers your question right there.
And if you're looking for it in 0.0, join an 0.0 alliance corp and you will have what you seek (especially now, with the big war going on) at any time of the day no matter what ship size you fly. But it will be in fleet, not solo.
By the way, about the shuttles, they're empty. For some reason people leave empty shuttles around all over space. I don't know why.

I think I was just expecting more than empty space. I was kind of hoping for a scene from Star Wars with ships flying all about shooting one another with a giant Titan and a Death Star.

Come to Oijanen or Akora, me and my crew are out there almost every night undoing our ISk building that we have accomplished by mining or ratting in the early evening. Usually a couple cheap frigs rolling around looking to gang-bang the first thing we find in a belt regardless of what it is. WE AINT SKERRED!! Last night we got our selves a couple of noobs in some frigs 2 on 2. We also took on a Vexor who had fighters assigned to him by nearby carrier (which we didnt recognize as anything but normal combat drones at first) also took on a Scorpion by mistake (long story) I try to pirate at least for a bit every night until i get bored or lose my throw away frig.

Shooting a T1 frigate in 0.0 is something to do when there's really nothing else to do. I personally hate shooting shuttles and small frigates. A lot of killboards seem to exclude shuttle kills as well.
If you want most 0.0 to actually be interested to take you down... as in they might even chase you. Hop into an upper tier cruiser or battlecruiser.

Edited by: Stakhanov on 19/03/2007 20:37:20 It's good to be reckless at your age , it's really the best time to learn PvP. You shouldn't be afraid of engaging ships much bigger than yours - T1 frigate losses should seem negligible soon. There's a story about a rifter who downed a Zealot (amarr HAC) alone... if you target is clueless enough , you can kill it. It's best to join a gang of other T1 frigates to pick on battleships , though. Probably the most fun you can have.
0.0 combat is going to be one-sided for you. You aren't likely to get much combat experience there by yourself - odds are the people you encounter will kill you in the blink of an eye. However , it's very useful for survival training - learning to escape gatecamps , evading chasers , warping out of their reach. Try to loot wrecks , chances are they will still have stuff not worth enough for them to carry , but worth selling for you.
It's possible to reach an alliance HQ in a slasher. I visited the Goons once (this was before Kali & warp to zero mind you) and made it alive with some T2 war loot. Try it !

I assumed peerats left them at security breakpoints so Concord don't blow them up on the other side? Idunno, if they are in my system I always round them up and throw them in storage. I like my space clean, and it saves me from having to make shuttles.
If you want a fight, you are going to have to initiate and not ask. People out picking fights are in bigger, badder ships and avoid those who can demolish them. It'll be hard to find a evenly matched 1v1.

Woot, i had my first fight in a belt the other day on my minmatar trial, was with another rifter, only i had a massive (well, 2000) shield tank fitted and they just warped off as they went into structure, was a GG from us both though. I got wiped out by a crow soon after however, it seems in every other belt there is someone in a Crow waiting to do this orbit at 26Km, warp scramble, and shoot missiles thing :D
about the shuttles, they are probably playing bumpercars ^.^
I went in to 0.0 on that minmatar trial shortly afterwards, in this place called 'querious' or something, i was kinda surprised to survive encounters with warp bubbles, assault ships and small gangs trying to kill me! but never could i effectively fight back against these players, so no PvP at all really. Hence that 'must keel p0dz' thread i started :D

First of all, you were misinformed about 0.0. Unless, of course, your idea of wild pvp is accidentally stumbling into a bubble with 20 or so people waiting to kill you.
You want pvp? Go to the closest .4 system to a newb starting area. You'll find pvp in large quantities.

Edited by: Cmdr Baxter on 19/03/2007 23:58:39 Contrary to popular belief, 0.0 space does not equivalate a zone with near-constant warfare (unless of course you're caught in the middle of the BoB-Coalition War, in which case I hope you have some friends). In fact, 0.0 space can be damned quiet in many locations, with only 1 or 2 ships in-system.
If you're looking for action I suggest checking systems in the 0.1-0.4 security range, especially ones that are along high-traffic routes and form natural chokepoints for access into 0.0 security space. _________________________________

My dear friends, I think you have been mistaken. CCP is based in Iceland, and where there is ice, there are penguins. Everyone really knows "PVP" is actually armed conflict between two or more penguins.

To find some lowsec pvp, you need to fly around for a while scanning for anyone in local. Could be minutes before you find a potential target, could be hours, could find nothing and log for the night.
Some beleive lowsec needs a "buff" to draw more people, others would rather stay in their 0.8 system and farm missions in safety.

Most of 0.0 is very, very empty.
But join a corp in one of the larger 0.0 alliances (or one affiliated with one of the bigger alliances) and every once in a while you will be in a big battle with 100 - 200 (sometimes even more) ships on each side.

In my experience, most 0.0 systems are completely empty most of the time. It's just the station and entrance systems that tend to be busy places.

Want PvP? 1.Go to any Alliance space and find out the commonly used pipes to Empire. 2.Set up gate camp, dictors nice, but not needed. 3.10-15 minutes later, more excitement than you can shake a damn stick at.
But I assume you want solo and relatively "even" pvp. Dont we all, but EVE is all about various sized ganks. Either ganker or gankee, and the RARE solo/even/"fair" fight.
I do know of Corps who have fought by agreed numbers at times, but I think these are more often than not RP Corps, like UK and whatnot.

0.0 Doesn't really have pvp you're looking for. There is some solo, and some small-gang, but it's mostly either totally quiet, a fleet-battle between two alliances where rifters barely have a place, or a gatecamp.
Totally agree on you with all the fecking shuttles though. There's so many of em, and all kinds of noob-ships abandoned. Just gotto remove at least the noobships from overview, though it's not always handy, it helps most of the time.

Actually when this happens its usually more of a powerpoint presentation then a smooth cinematic....although when the node holds up and the hamsters are straining properly (rarely) a full on fleet battle is pretty cool to watch
As others have said unless you actually join a 0.0 corp it's unlikely you will see anything beyond a bubble camp that blasts you into oblivion with a Saber and pair of Astarte's a couple jumps in. Although if you can break through the Egbinger gate into Curse you may find some solo guys floating around.
Losec is a bit bleah tbh ( I know having been forced to be in it for the past couple weeks). Plenty of pirates to fight if you wish...but as a solo pilot you are more likely to get ganked yourself. Try jumping into a system and warping to a good scan planet (or lurk in belt scan range from a safe spot or three) and pick and choose who you find silly enough to be solo mining/ratting and engage. Even if the ship is more powerful on paper--the pilot may NOT be and odds are will freeze giving you the upper hand (ratters typically are so wrapped up in...errr...ratting that they only notice that you've started shooting when they are fully scrammed/webbed and going down in flames....ditto miners) .
Good luck...but you'll probably do a lot better with a couple pals to fly with. "Lead me...Follow me...Or get the **** out of my way...." -General George Patton USA
