I wouldn't take the negative outlook and say "Be prepared to lose ships" but definitely be prepared for changes. Treat every mission you get as if you'd never done it before and there weren't any spoiler sites letting you know the content. Keep in mind the little things you learned to look out for when just starting a new agent level. Things like warp scramblers in a mission are going to be more important until you know whether or not you can handle the aggro. With the Need for Speed Initiative I expect to see more npc effects ships like tracking disruption, painting, webbing, sensor dampening and (*wince*) target jamming.
I don't have to work today, so I plan on dropping back to L3 from L4 to get a feel for the kinds of changes in the missions. I'm really geeked about this, and can't wait to see the changes (was tempted to skip my normal forum checking and just log in).
Good luck fellow mission runners, be careful, and look for the positive before screaming at CCP. Change is good, even if it's not easy or comfortable. ---------- The right to do something doesn't make doing it right. |

Personally, I'm going to avoid reading this forum for a while. :) * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm in agreement with Tergon, if you lose a ship, it's because you failed to pay attention. Pre-patch, one action may not have angered the whole room, post patch it may. Pay attention and kill the scramble and web frigates first.
Or, better yet, gang up and make sure you can take all the DPS put out in the mission. 2 med shield transporters and the cap recharge to run them 100% makes my Vulture the "We Win Button" (ooh, gotta change the ship name) in all the missions I've run lately in groups. Whole room aggroed on one Raven with decent resists, he didn't even have to activate his own shield booster... I felt a bit sorry for those Angel pirates last night, but only a tiny bit. (And I got over it quickly.)

Didn't notice much changes so far. Did a couple of lvl 4s (Gurista EV, Gurista Spies, Shipyard Theft etc.) and they are still the same missions as before update. Enemies Abound 1/5 had some frigs extra and some of the ships where renamed with strange names, like Federation Longour and Lixa and such, but no change in difficulty so far. Lets see what the other missions have to offer ...

Dpon't count on that, one of the "solution" for less ship was reinforcements, so you don't have a whole room with 50 ships, but multiple waves. The problem is when you are target dampened and the scrambling frigates spwan.

The Damsel in Distress sure surprised me lol. Managed to bookmark and warp out, then came in with a buddy. Thought I'd finished and along came reinforcements not once but twice. I really enjoyed the mission. Was worried a couple of times, but that made it great

The new "Attack of the Drones" mission (Like blockade for Rogue Drones) is going to crash the high-end market even more than it already has. I got half the zydrine required for an apoc in this one mission. ----------------

Have done the Damsel several times now. Its a fun one but certainly needs it payout boosted. The payout needs to be on par with the challenge it presents. ------------------------------------------------ I have gone to look for myself. If I get back before I return, please ask me to wait. |

payout seems fine best bit of advice is take up to 5 days to run it that will affect the total time to finish and will indirectly help boost hte reward

Drones doesn't have bounties, so it should be fair that they drop some nice alloys and compounds. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many |

I wouldn't say you need to lose any ships to these neccesarily, but it is definately time to go back to learning mode when it comes to new missions you have not before seen. What I mean by this, is rather than fitting for all out gank, players need to fit more tank than they believe they'll need, and gradually cut back as they grow more comfortable with what aggression triggers to watch for and how much dps to expect. It also wouldn't hurt to ensure you haven't equiped any modules you are not comfortable watching explode. The speed in running these will come with time. I for one, intend to enjoy this period of not knowing exactly what to expect while it lasts.
As for lower skillpoint players attempting to push the envelope on what they can do in game, sure, the early adapters can count on losing ships. I did, and the dozen or so battleships I lost trying missions before my skillpoints made them easier gained me experience that has been worth many times what those ships cost me at the time. I didn't read spoilers, I tried something novel, and actually played the game. Best advice I can offer up, is if/when you suffer a ship loss on one of these new missions, treat it like any loss you suffer in pvp and take a positive outlook, trying to learn from your mistakes rather than dwelling on your failure.

rule #1 to all mission don't care the lvl or the enemy. kill the frigs that scram you. you do that and you won't lose a ship. seriously its a cool trick that the game lets you do.

I agree here. Although be careful that sometimes...so far very rarely other ships scram too.

Fun??? Yes, the reinforcements are fine, but the damned pleasure gardens are horribly hard to *****! I've got almost perfect drones and I could not break its tank (only sentry drones V and battleship V to have perfect sentries).
I had to go back, and not expecting more people I prepared a full gank/no tank mode. And several minutes later I died, when the next wave appeared. Now I'll leave it for another day, but gosh, why make the gardens so hard? And this without knowing which one of the two you have to destroy...
It's been a bad week for me, too many ship lost... gahh
Have fun.

There are also a fair number of ships and setups for mission running which preclude taking out scram frigs without launching drones. There are many times when this will earn you enough incoming dps to break your tank before you can reasonably hope to kill two or even sometimes one scram frig. I can think of several missions where the scram frigs are the very last thing I take out, either because of drone aggro or the frigates being an aggro trigger themselves.
It's too bad mission runners lost their number 1 training aid when the wcs was nerfed. Fitting a couple of those really gave the new mission runner room to make mistakes can can be quite deadly now.

Don't count on that or you will lose the ship. Some of the new missions spawn the frigate after the start, and on top of you. So you need to stay cnstantly allert for new scrambling ships.

Did the new lvl4 Go Beserk today, pretty easy, lots of spawning BS, and for the first time for me in a mission, each and every ship had loot on board, some of it pretty good...I think I made over 23 mill on that mission, before selling the loot. The trick is to keep them at long range, and pick 'em off one at a time...kill one, 2 new ones spawn etc...busy, but not worrying as long as you keep your distance. Of approx 25 total spawns, about 17 were BS, and 2 scramblers spawn in with the last one. Nothing smaller than a BC, and they were from EoM(?)

Well I can't really comment on any changes sense I really haven't been mission running in quite some time. But a good rule of thumb is to kill any frigates that agro you, or hell just shoot them anyways. That way if you can't handle the tanking, you can always warp out.
But tbh, I really haven't met a mission I could not tank in my passive drake with any of the missions that have changed (if indeed they have). Damage output is a bit slow (I only had to refit once to kill that Rachen guy in his capital shield repaired Raven lol, had to put 3 BCU t2's to get enough damage to break his tank), but damn it's sure nice not to have to worry about tanking.

Shooting at frigates can be a trigger in certain missions (EA 1/5 anyone?) aggro from other groups.
I haven't done any lvl 4s since 1.4 was deployed. Simply because I want to see the feedback from people doing them. And shooting at these Gardens, that it takes a lot ammo/time, seems more like POS warfare. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many

Not trying to necro but this thread was the closest I could find. The thing is that as long as I can remember with missions with scrambling NPC you got a warning about it. But during the course it was taken from the mission sheet?
Rogue drone harassment deepspace lvl 4 had them. I made the mistake to keep shooting the queen and got all 4 spawns at the same time. And ofc I could see the little buggers who were scramming me but due to the many drones it got to laggy and I couldn't target the buggers in time. (dual core,8800GT) Tank dried up while I was killing drones (never give up, never surrender) and couldn't warp out. Expensive lesson learnt. One mega down.
Jumped back in with a hype and nailed the suckers. But noticed they didn't far as much damage and there was only 20 wrecks left (I know its borked and wrecks dissapear after 20-30 min.) I just wonder if the whole mission in itself is borked because of the incredible damage my mega had to tank and the hype only was tickled slightly (gotta love the tank). And no scrambling as far as I could see. |

No, the reinforcements, i.e. wave format is one of the crappiest things to happen to missions. All they needed to do to make the screen freeze a non issue was have the npc's passive until the player did something, moved, shot, targetted, whatever. I hate the waves, it's such a damn hassle scooping and redeploying, especially if you play with two accounts. Also forces me to tank both ships. Trigger frigs are better then timed spawns, but I'd rather have the good old Recon 1/3 back.
In fact, it's such a hassle I've given up on my precious Domi and will be in Ravens soon. Then I'll be able to both move and shoot, without having to go back for my sentries when I'm done.
