Okay, so the vague description says what they do, but do you need any skills, how do you use them, what is the increase in production time, are they only for tech 2 items?

Are they only for tech 2 items? Yes. Consequently, nobody will know the answers to any of your other questions until some tech2 blueprints start turning up.

The Tech 2 items and a few other new devices require a diff method in research.
Example: the Deep Core Miner
It is required to have 1 data sheet to copy the bpo and metallurgy 5
The new tools will be required to be able to work any research on the bpo's

The tools form part of the Bill Of Materials for tech 2 items. You also need R.Db (Research database)in some cases as well. As you produce the item the tools (R.A.M.) and the R.Db's will gradually wear out. I have seen wear rates from 0.5% to 4% on chaos. --------------------------------------------- Engineers motto; If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. |

Edited by: Mrissa Easeah on 30/12/2003 19:19:53 Will they be able to be repaired? For a fee? Or do you have to outright replace them as they get used up?
I only get stacks of 7-10 or so when I get them at all, so I really hope the degradation's fixable, or very slight. Then again, at 4% degradation, 10 DB's would last 250 production runs, which isn't too bad if we're talking starships.

R.A.M.s are repairable and it was quite cheap to repair it on Chaos

Why should they be unrepairable? If you you want to build something big like a battleship you will need more then for building a few rounds of irons s.

Edited by: Mrissa Easeah on 30/12/2003 19:19:37 Think you'd want more than one of each if you plan to do a 'crash run', burning through your R.A.M. without repairing to do extremely large batches over an extended period of time.
Judging from availability, necessity, and listed prices people are putting them up on the market for, doing crash runs would be rather expensive, despite the convenience of not having to repair the R.A.M. every few runs.
Another question, do they 'dissappear' if they're used up, or do you have something you can still repair when you've pushed it through its paces?

I got over 70 of some of them, if they're unrepairable that would make sense, if they are repairable prepare for a flooded market in hours when tech2 bps show up ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Judging by the CSM chats where the Devs mention that they are considering wear & tear on normal items, I think they may drop the repairabilty (word?) of these things.
After all, agents are dropping them quite often, and they'll be a serious glut in the market otherwise.

Guess that's cool.
I was getting worried until recently, only getting 1 or 2 of a kind as a reward. *chuckles* Got a load of 21 Starship R.A.M. last night from 2 consecutive missions.
