Points arent a useful comparison on their own without knowing the research skill and race (due to racial bonus differences)
600 points for a x2 skill is "more than" 600 points for a x3 skill.
A better comparison is daily points before any bonuses are applied... or a specific comparison between points in an individual research skill.

This is where the Field Bonus comes in.
If you train in one or other of the Starship Engineering skills, you cannot get any blueprints except those for ships of the appropriate race. To compensate for you missing out on most of the blueprint lotteries, you earn RPs at three times the usual rate, giving you a better chance for the few lotteries you are in.
If you research Laser Physics, Plasma Physics, or two other Physics skills I forgot, you can only get blueprints for weapons. There are more of these than of ships, but you're still restricted; so, you get twice as many RPs as the usual rate.
If you're in one of the other skills, you can get pretty much any RP, so you only get the standard rate of progress.

i trained high energy physics for a couple hours to see the points on that and there was no field bonus on it, so i was getting a flat 19.8 RP per day from my lvl 1 skill

how can I have research points if I can't get a research agent? oh yeah I earn how many per day just for having research skills? ok then that is how many I have

In the absence of having started a project with an R&D agent, having a research skill to level 1 will net you zero research points a day.
But don't despair. By training on to level 2, you can double that

So thats what the field bonus of 3x a day means - im researching Gallentian Starship Engineering...
I only have 1 skill out of the 3 that my agent has trained. What happens if I increase the skillset? Im thinking it would increase my RP/day gainage.
...and DAMN, I want a bp. :p

Getting 20.16 RP/day in Molecular Engineering, for a total of 113.92 atm. I could increase that by switching to a lvl 3 research agent with higher skills than the one I'm using, but choose not to.
The higher lvl agent is more skilled in far more fields than most other agents and is better imo to reserve for when Research Project Management skill becomes availible. Plus I don't feel like dumping the 113 RP :p

Upto 99.7rp's day, in a couple of days it will be around 150rpday. Total is around 400. Doing Caldari Starship with a caldari, 3x Multiplier.
