Attribute effect training time, so cross "class training" is very vaiable for alts. I.E 1 for PVP for for industry
and you want this thread moved to Eve General discussion

If you have a high Perception on your main he will train PVP (ships/guns etc ) faster. If your ALT has a high Intelligence he will train industry (mining/building) faster.
A well rounded character will be able to do both - but neither of which at any great speed.

You make alts to serve a variety of purposes. Some of these purposes are more nefarious than others and there is considerable debate about whether they should be in the game or not.
Without comment on right or wrong (which really, there is no such thing as right and wrong, just one person's position vs another's), let's review the list of uses for an alt. 1. scouting enemy gate camps or systems 2. checking the markets in different, far-away places in the universe, which may not be needed now with the global market in this patch 3. doing basic level research in the hope of somehow, some way, obtaining a BPO from the lottery ... oh, again going bye-bye with invention...yay 4. sitting in the system next door to watch for local filling up with bad guys 5. making safe-spots 6. forum-posting anonymously (though back in maybe 2004 I read where the GMs were entertained by how people posted with their mains vs. their alts, which sort of shows that GMs have a sense of humour, except for Wrangler. Heh.) 7. smack-talking in local to keep from getting your main's corp war-dec'd 8. stealing, shooting people in empire, or otherwise provoking CONCORD to "see what happens." 9. noob ISK farming, whereby characters are created and killed for the components and starting isk (worthless considering you can make more isk by completing the tutorial and for less work, but I'm not here to judge) 10. placeholder CEO for your own corp so that your employment history doesn't show you bouncing in and out of noob corps 11. starting a corp to see what happens and explore how corp mechanics work (like hangars, votes, shares, etc.) 12. spying by joining a rival corp 13. spying by starting a corp that joins a rival alliance
Have I gone on long enough? I think so. There are dozens more reasons. Why did I answer your post? Because EvE is far more complex than flying ships and making ISK, and with imagination and some devotion, you will find many opportunities open to you. Exercise that imagination my friend.

Most people get multiple accounts if they want multiple characters, that way they can train all of them.
But, the main purpose of an alt is because the alt is different/anonymous from the main. Sometimes that's useful.
You can make an alt and train him a little bit: for example, give the ability to pilot industrials, or some trade skills so you can sell on the market easier.

1. To have a relatively safe carebearing char in high sec to make money and items with when your main is war decced or deep in 0.0 and getting his behind handed to him by rival corps. Keeping this alt in the newbie corp renders it free from war decs.
2. To have a char for pirating/suicide ganking purposes that can do these with relatively few repercussions (note that recycling alts for the purpose of keeping security standing loss manageable is considered cheating by CCP and will result in GM intervention). In its legitimate form all you'd need to concern yourself with is equipment and recovering security standing.
3. To have a char in privateer alliance that you can pursue a 0.0 corp with when it flees to high sec space, or just go about mindless killing due to PA's high abundance of war targets.

i tried making another account, a "trial" to see how it runs on one computer, because from what i can tell in the newbie corp channel, there are alot of people doing this.
anyway, it doesnt let me log on, message being "we would appreciate it if you limit yourself to one trial account"
well i am not using a trial account, except for that one, and how can i limit myself when they limit me already ;)
so basically if i want to try out a second account, i have to pay for it right off the bat?

I believe so, yes. At the end of the day you can already 'try out' EVE as you have your actual subscription to play with. The trials aren't meant to be free playtime, they're there for people who are thinking of signing up and want a 'demo', so to speak. Once you've got an account you don't need that demo any more.

Edited by: Voodoo Mistross on 22/03/2007 00:22:35 Edited by: Voodoo Mistross on 22/03/2007 00:20:18 I am also tinkering with the idea of an alt, but not until I get my main t a stage I am happy. Then I will create a alt with a totaly different skill set, to allow me to make reasonabl isk, in a mining senerio maybe, also gives me variety in the game, different roles to play and experience more facets of EVE.

Some of us have alts so that we can play other empires to experience the RP there. I do this to decide what empire I like best, leaving on out of course. Every alt hopes to become you main

Free tip - eve will run on a mobile phone (not realy).. your machin doesnt need to be high spec to get 2 clients running happily though... make sure ytou DISBALE all the sound though.. as sound conflicts nail the client ALOT, also ALT+CTRL +E,, ALT+CTRL+T turns off effects and might help if your machine has less power than a gameboy advanced. (or if you wanna dodge a podding after a ship explosion)

Why do I have alt characters on my main accounts?
So that I can haul stuff from market hubs to backwater systems where my mains can pick it up in order to avoid Sorted and his buddies
Seriously tho, I think Privateer Alliance has been the cause of the creation of more empire hauling alts than anything else -=^=-

I assume you are trying to log into both at the same time when you get this message? You can have multitudes of trial accounts (not sure if there is a rule against it or not, though), but you cannot log into a trial account and another account simultaneously from the same computer. Once you pay for the trial you can, but not until. You can always exit from your paid account and log onto the trial account, though.
