This is a painful mission! The first 4 phases were a cake walk but I just couldn't get the right setup for phase 5.
First off I'm flying a Rupture. My typical setup is 3 425mm autos, 2 rocket launcher and a NOS with an AB, shield booster and a hardener based on the mission damage type. This setup failed the second I came out of warp.
I docked and refit different hardeners with no success. In the end I fit 3 heavy launchers with a couple of artillery cannons and picked the mobs off from 30+ kms. It worked but I'm still curious to what my setup should have been for successful close combat on this mission.
Any suggestions?

I might have some suggestions, but one question...you didn't attack the big fleet of ships in that last pocket, did you? * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I sincerely hope it wasn't just one. And I also hope it was a shield hardener. You sure you want to shield tank a 3-midslot Rupture anyway?
And use 4 guns. Ruppy gets 2 x damage bonuses for guns. ---

What timing, I was just checking this forum to see if there was any info on this mission. I ran 4/5 last night and will do 5/5 tonight in my ruppy.
So what happens if you attack the BS fleet? ZOMGWTPWND?
So is it really that hard? 4/5 wasn't so bad once I killed the inty that had me webbed. My setup is more long range that OP's. I have been running 3 X Standard Assults, and 3 X 725mm artys. I've just shield tanked (1 med booster, 1 boost amp, 1 small cap booster that I let run constantly with 75 charges) the previous missions without a harderner or anything. and only once nicked the armor. Also will Drones get me into trouble drawing to much aggro or will they help?

Edited by: Chigger Troutslayer on 22/03/2007 12:32:24 My trip report.
After warping out once to retool the tank to amor tank with a couple thermal plates and med armor repper, I managed to make it through the first room OK. 2nd was pretty easy. The 3rd proved imposssible for my setup and a nice chap in local came to my rescue.
My problem was the elite frig in the 3rd room. I should have restocked my drones before proceeding (they all got wasted in the first room). I was scrammed by the frig and my slow arse was unable to hit it with my 725's because I couldn't get range. The assault launchers managed to chew through his shields, but could not get past 1/4 armor. So 250 missils later I was out of ammo. And almost out of cap boosters. Thanks to the cavalry I made it out and completed the mission. I think I would have been OK id I had some drones (as long as the BS fleet 130KM away was not aggrod), or an autocannon or 2.
I also noticed I did not collect any bounties except for the sentry guns in the second room. WTF is up with that ?

To complete this mission, all you have to do is locate the BS's. Once you have done that, you can warp straight out again. No lost ships no lost drones and home in time for tea.

You would still need to kill that Elite Frig in the last room with the BS's because you are scrammed. Unless of course you fit WCS (not sure how many points you need to counter).

I have done the mission several times, even last week in a Myr for fun, not been scrammed though. Could be I have been lucky?

I've never been scrammed in it either. Also, all your chat boxes light up like a Christmas tree with a message saying something to the effect of "Warp Out!"

I have convo with some guys that decided to run a corps mission into this one, very hard, none of the BS that went in came out. That is why it is a recon mission. Remember to read what your agent tells you.
Oh, and we never mention that mission either, still touches raw nerves!

Could be one of the hundreds of missions that got updated with the patch. The scram could be new...
I really didn't think the mission was all that hard once I had a decent tank on the ruppy. Only problems was I had no short range weapons other than the standard assualt launcher and those were not cutting the mustard against the scram frig. I tanked for proobably 20 min before backup arrived to kill it for me....

I tried to reply yesterday just to tell you that the long range setup would be an issue in the last pocket, but the forums weren't accepting my posts. Anyway, glad you made it through.
For real fun, try it in a Rifter. [/brag] * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Bounties are paid out by CONCORD for terminating wanted pirates. You were killing forces of the Amarr and Caldari navies. They drop tags which can be sold to the Gallente and Minmatar navies for ISK.
As for the Elite frig in the last room, it has a % chance to scram and web, so won't do either 100% of the time.

I have apparently had the misfortune of this being my 1st ever lvl 2 mission. I am slogging through it in a stabber, and it's been a royal pain. I am on the 5th mission of the arc, and I'm stuck. For some reason I can't seem to tank 20 frigs and cruisers all at once. Go figure.
I have a question. This is supposed to be a recon mission right? But that 1st acceleration gate is locked. Do I need to kill every single ship in there to unlock it? Kinda dumb for a recon mission.
So what setup should I try for a stabber? It's all I can afford atm. It isn't an ideal shield tank or armor tank.

You do have to kill every ship.
Quote: So what setup should I try for a stabber? It's all I can afford atm. It isn't an ideal shield tank or armor tank.
I would probably try:
Autocannon x4, Standard Launcher or Rocket Launcher x2 Afterburner, Web, Cap Battery or Recharger 800mm Plate, Medium Armor Repair, Kinetic Hardener or EANM
Phased Plasma will work well on both Amarr and Caldari. Load EM missiles for the former, Kinetic for the latter.
It's kind of an ugly setup for the Stabber, but it should be cheap, easy to fit, and very capable of getting the job done almost regardless of your skillset. If you still have trouble with it you could warp out and change hardeners, but I doubt that will be necessary. Just be careful about aggroing groups one at a time.
As soon as you can afford it, get a Rupture.

btw if you want to make a lot of money for a level 2 mission and get a jump on tag collecting for the lp store, you can take out the Ammar fleet in the last room. Last time I did it with a friend in a passive shield Drake; I was in a speed tanked arty Hurricane.
