if you insure your ship with platium, you get more money that original ship cost when its destroyed. is it possible to become rich by doing that thing again and again or is there any penalty?
i could buy a ship, max insure and let pirates destroy it...does it work?

C'mon CCP, you have created this inflated economy so now it's time to sort out the insurance payouts to bring it in line with the inflated costs of ships! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And to stop insurance scammers, let them only claim a few insurances per week, or increase the fee if they have many claims (as IRL).

Guys there is no way to make money doing this, the only thing you can do is loose less on insurance. Instead of loose lets say 22mill for insurance you only end up loosing 11mill or so if you blow it up.
(ship + insurance)- payout = you loose money

You can make money with this, if you're careful in your ship choice. The Thorax, for instance, gets a nice percentage return. Pre-castor you could build one for ~ 4.5 mil, insure it for an additional 2.2 mil and get a payout of 7.3 mil, which is 600k profit. It's less post-castor, but you can still make a profit from this.
Of course, it's pretty sad if this is the best way you can find of making isk. It does make it easier to throw your ship into combat, though...

Great idea. Then someone puts in a Scorp for 1bil isk sellprice and everyone has a field day selfdestructing.

Only if you BUILD the Thorax. If you BUY it, you'll be very lucky to even break even. And if you build it, the profit is simply your pay for the time it took to mine those minerals and build the ship... just like SELLING the ship for 5.1 million would have done. The only reason people did this was because insurance payout is fast, but selling at a resonable price on the market can take days due to the people selling at or near mineral cost...
Kind of funny how many people griped about a problem (insurance fraud) that ultimately didn't even exist... the people blowing up those ships could have made just as much in the long run selling them.

Aye it is amusing, funny thing is the ppl who spend all their time trying to exploit game mechanics to make an easy profit could very probably actually make more money by playing the game properly.

there is a current exploit with npc pirates where millions upon millions an hour are being made...not to mention the value of the rare loot collected. by the time it is fixed, if indeed it does get fixed, there will be some very wealthy peeps out there
--------------------------------------- Last nights patch, was, without doubt, the worst ever. Rest assured that I was on the forum within minutes registering my disgust throughout the world. |

I'm sure there is - my point was about those people who take time to work out cost of making ship against insuring & blowing up. - manipulating game mechanics if you will rather than pure exploits
