Santa Spirit Christmas Spirit and Goodwill Toward Man 560	Posted - 2016.10.09 03:24:40 - [1] - Quote Hi guys, once again it's approaching the time for me to spread some Christmas cheer. Greetings all, On Dec 14th, 2016, I will host the fifth annual Christmas giveaway event in a system to be announced at a later date. the first event was in 2012 and we have held the event each year since then. Each year, the people who help or donate, or even just come and enjoy the fun makes it a truly special time in New Eden when it seems that disputes and hostilities are set aside for a single evening in favor of fun, laughter and of course "Gift Giving". For those who were here last year, I Will be flying around New Eden (between now and the time of the event) in my beautifully skinned sleigh provided by the group who attended last year's event, and I might just jettison a can with something valuable inside it, a little teaser for you all. The planned events for this year are: (in no particular order) 1. The Annual battle (details to be released later) 2. The "Ship Scramble" where pilots will be given "some" warning to be ready and one of my helpers will leave (or jettison) a fully fit ship out in space generally within sight of the station (but not warp to range) and pilots will scramble to be the first one into the ship to claim it. this event will be repeated throughout the evening based on the number of people who show up in the system and the number of fitted ships we have that evening. 3. A "Can Hunt" where some pilots can put their scanning skills to good use to locate a can (its really going to be a ship named "can"... shhhhh) in space that will contain a prize. 4. Cansplosion!!!!! I'll left you folks guess about this one wink. Hint: you don't blow up the cans (due to some issues with suspect timers last year, we may come up with something else to replace cansplosion this year) 5. Frigate races for a prize... (self explanatory I hope) Giveaways in station, giveaways in local, conga lines, EvE trivia and more are all awaiting this year's attendees. Each year, my main and his corp have provided items for this event, and each year the event has been made more than what it would have been by those of you who have donated to the cause, so, if anyone would like to donate items, ships, or even iskies toward the event, please feel free to send or contract them to me. As was the rule last year, please make sure that the item is in .5 or higher security systems (not high sec islands please) and the folks who have offered to haul them to the event site for me will do so. as always, I have no intention of keeping items or isks for myself and should the case arise where there are extra things, they will carry over to the following year's event. Pretty slow, but looks legit Thanks for the input, it is appreciated and you are right, we were running a little behind today, there was a RL issue that arose right at the last minute and I had to tend to it, so instead of 17:00 getting the alphas ready, it was almost 19:00 before i was able to do so after that, things went pretty much to the original "time-frame", just a later start. also, the elves kept the presents flowing pretty well in between times, so I am appreciative of their assistance. I guess Eve Christmas ain't for everyone :( why not make an alt then fly there no problem or even an alpha character waiting in station, waiting for santa :P We go to a different system every year, we started in Minmatar space the first time, and have changed faction's space each time, I and my helpers understand that there's always going to be someone who ends up with a bit of a headache, but next year someone else will have the headache, and the year after that it will be someone else, ect ect. We could find an area maybe that's "neutral to everyone" (Concord space maybe)? if we look hard enough, but in doing so, we would open ourselves (and the folks who help haul things for the event) up to being setup for ganks, decs and other nefarious schemes, so we practice what we hope are good security practices and always hope that as few folks as possible are affected, but we know some still will be. o/ Merry Christmas in any case Santa Please come join the fun Dec 14th., 2016 Find the details HERE

There were a few issues that occurred before some of the major events started, such as the Alpha fights, but instead of blaming the event coordinators, like several people did, they should have blamed the ISP or whatever was causing the technical issues on Santa Spirit's end. As far as the events that were held, I personally took part in one, the shuttle race, and upon retrospect, I was helping the Grinch in complaining about the race, even though it was game mechanics, not the race itself, which created an advantage for seasoned pilots. I would like to formally apologize for the bitter comment I left in local over it. The other events seemed good fun for all involved, I do wish I had thought to brought a scanner ship to take part in the can hunt. Another thing that seemed to be a hot ticket of comments is the prize distribution, or lack thereof. I personally came to the event with a blank slate of expectations. Sure, I wasn't one of the lucky few to get a PLEX, but I did receive a few nice ships, and I wound up giving some things I got gifted to Alpha pilots that could use them. There were many complaints about how "There were trillions of donations, where's my super expensive thing" But the thing is, at any given point there were 105+ pilots in the system. And that was after I had arrived very late to the party. In my time in the sector, I saw many complaints about not having anything to do, or a lack of things going on, etc. At a few points I remember saying you'll have as much fun at this event as you want to have. If you expect to have no fun, you won't. I had a good time just talking with other pilots and seeing such a large group of people in local that wasn't trying to scam people or kill them. (Even with the few occasional 'kill the Golem' jokes) I had many laughs, and a few of us even made our own mini sub-events like a riddle guessing game that around 40 some pilots took part in. In my opinion, this community, every community, should have more events like this, where a large part of the player-base can put down their weapons, drop their distrust, even for a few hours, and just have a good time and talk. I understand an event like this is extremely hard to put together, but I truly wish it could happen more than once per year. In conclusion of this long-winded statement: I would like to extend a deep personal thanks to the coordinators of this event, Santa Spirit, his helpers, Rudolph, the owners of the fortizar we used as a hub for the festivities, and of course all the generous donators, CCP included. I hope this event continues to be an annual staple of the community, and grows more and more as time goes on. I look forward to seeing everyone again in 2017. I hope that next year you come post about your experience at the 2017 event, and I thank you for your post this year too.
