From the patch notes:
Quote: NPC ships that do not drop any salvegeable materials will drop a container instead of a wreck when destroyed.
I took this to mean that I would no longer have to sit there for five minutes salvaging a wreck only to get the message, "Sorry, but this wreck has nothing for you to salvage." Alas, it is not the case, I still get that message. So are the patch notes just wrong? What gives?

It seems what they meant was: NPC ships and structures whose wrecks never ever gave salvage now don't drop wrecks. Turrets and some structures especially seem to have changed to this.
NPC ships that could give salvage still seem to drop a wreck, even if the salvaging ultimately returns nothing.

Bah! And here I thought they wanted to make looting less of a PITA. Guess it is still a full-time job.

If they made looting any easyier it would flood the economy even more, though saying that Im stil waiting for them to bring out loot/salvage drones

Salvaging 5 FTW
The higher up you go the less time you spend salvaging (worth the time) I think it also increases the odds of you finding something but hard to tell with all the changes.

Yeah its a shame, A few people were saying how they might start salvaging again when this patch comes in. Perhaps CCP didnt quite implement it right and they will make it how we hoped. Fingers crossed!

Seems to me making looting easier would be a good thing. Many ratters just skip looting altogether because they can make money faster by killing more stuff. Wouldn't it be better for the game economy if all that bounty isk, which comes "from nowhere", came from selling loot to other players instead? But I make my money from rat bounties so I guess I'll shut up now.

I get the impression that each time you roll for more salvage, you decrease the amount you can get. This is perhaps why you get 0 for some stuff - your skill isn't good enough. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

I'll take ending up with nothing over a cargo hold full of metal scraps. It's a senseless punishment to salvagers.

They meant things like structures that never yield salvage. Now they drop cans if they drop anything at all. Keeps you from wasting time on wrecks that would never have yeilded salvage in the first place. This should not be confused with wrecks that might yield salvage but don't. ---

Sounds like my cueà
I shall seek out these ôrattersö and salvage from them !
But seriously. Yes, you are correct. Certainly where I am, ratting is more profitable than salvaging. On occasion I cannot keep up with all the wrecks that appear while salvaging as fast as I can.
I find this good because I am perceived as ôcleaning up the systemö not ôstealingö from the ratters and my operation is flourishing. Fun, but I am not quite as profitable as killing the pirates yourself. My only downside is that my ships tend not to last long enough to warrant fitting them with salvage rigs. At least the ships themselves are cheap.

If no one is getting ISK, then how are they gonna buy stuff? (which is why your last sentance there, I'm sure ) -AS |

not quite sure about wreckage not having anything, but earlier I had a mission rat drop a loot-can, nothing unusual really.
so when I was ready to loot it, I locked it and several other things, tractor-ed them in close, and started opening my presents.
curiously, I found the jet-can had nothing in it, yet was still happily staring back at me as if it knew something I did not.
I don't mind not getting any loot from it, and I don't mind that it wasn't a wreckage with the wrong icon (tried to salvage it and got the error message from trying to salvage a can, basically not a valid target to salvage), but if there's nothing in it, theoretically it shouldn't exist to begin with.
At first I thought it was lag or some such, but all the rest of the cans/wreckages opened up and displayed their contents straight away, so if it was lag, it was lag on one item out of dozens which makes one take pause.
I chalk it up to an extraneous bug/glitch not quite covered in the patch, so it's no real "problem" as it doesn't detract from game-play, just somewhat of an odd occurrence for something theoretically impossible to be right there in front of you. ------------------------------------------------ UPDATED March 11 Formal request for improvements to industrialism |
