whats platinum run for an obelisk? i assume it insures in the normal manner, but im guessing at 250 mil?
help appreciated.

Well i would prob double that....as a BS costs around 50 mil to insure and only costs around 160 mil to buy.....so i asume a frighter would be much more.

Keep in mind that while the insurance costs roughly 250M and the payout is roughly 750M, you'll get back something like 30% of the ships base value even if you don't insure it. So, using very rough numbers, you might get back ~300M on an uninsured freighter, or you can pay 250M in order to get back an additional 450M (750M coverage total).
If you're in an NPC corp and staying strictly in safe space (ie: 0.5 security and above) then I'm of the opinion that insuring your freighter is a complete waste of ISK. It is extremely unlikely that you'll ever lose it... it would take a huge, organized, suicide gank squad to take you down.

Wow thats actually pretty decent payout for a ship. Now I know I get that much money back if I loose it I'm thinking it may be a reasonable thing to train. Always been to afraid of the possible loss before.

I'd rather just fly safe with my freighter, then pay for the insurance every 12 weeks.

Platinum insurance is 30% of the base mineral value of the ship. So if you know how much an Obelisk costs in terms of the minerals it takes to build it you have your answer (same for any ship).
