I am about to lose a lot, well at least a lot for a newbie
Only a few people bid on my auction and a 30 mil bpc is no gonna go for about 8 mil...
I can easily assume this has happened to other people to.
I think there should be a reserve option on the auction.
basicaly if it starts with a reserve you can cancel the auction if it didnt hit reserve within a day after it ends maybe?
if its canceled everyone gets there isk sent back and you dont get screwed if people miss it.

Why would you set the minimum bid on your item for less than the minimum amount you want for it?

"the ability to cancel an auction..." NO!
sry... roughly half the peeps (including me) wouldn't bid on 'reserved' auctions and why should they; especially when travelling across the galaxy is involved -> you'd even have to sit on your merchandise longer/pay public contract fees more often...
min bid is all you need and there's too many utopistic ones anway

Exactly, using a reserve that's higher than the minimum bid is an illogical and very annoying habit of poeple here on these boards. Even more illogical are the people bidding below reserve, what are these people thinking? They probably think the guy will sell below reserve after all, but what's the point then for putting in a reserve? Really, the whole reserve thing makes no sense, just use a minimum bid and forget about a reserve. A hidden reserve is even worse, no point on bidding on an auction ingame that has a hidden reserve (especially if your ISK is put into escrow for the duration of your bid).
I'm very glad they don't have that option ingame.

You already have workaround for reserve: have your alt bid on the auction if it is going for too cheap. Even if you hit cancel you would have to pay roughly the same taxes.
Or if it feels too costly option, good choice of minimum bet works better (even better if you have reasonably buyout for people in hurry..)

Edited by: Danari on 26/03/2007 11:43:49 Where did all this reserve crap come from in the first place? All the info on rl auctions I can find online sets reserve and minimum or starting bid as synonymous. Is it e-bay's fault?
Anyway reserves are crap and good riddance. Hidden reserves are scams and deserve the vitriol they receive.
Oh and the poor OP, just desserts and all that. Or if you can't take it like a man, game mechanics do allow a shill.

or better yet:
Auctions can be with reserve or minimum, or without minimums, or absolute or no reserve. In reserve auctions, there is a minimum bid or reserve price; if the bidding does not reach the minimum, there is no sale (but the person who puts the item up for auction may still owe a fee to the auctioneer or auction company). In absolute or no reserve auctions, the sale is guaranteed, with only the price left to be determined. In the context of auctions, a bid is an offered price.
i wonder how many reserves/hidden reserves would exist in eve, if they had to pay the auction house? but since there is no auction house...

Edited by: Argenton Sayvers on 26/03/2007 13:32:19 I cannot belive that someone would pay 15m for a Signal Disruption Amplifier II BPC ...
And in other news, keep this reserve nonsense out. You said it yourself, you got greedy and set the startbid below what you actually wanted in order to SCAM people out of their ISK by tricking them into a bid war.
If you seem to know what your item is worth, dont waste anyone's time with this stupid 1m startbid nonsense.

As already stated, the starting bid is the MINIMUM you will accept, so it should serve a dual purpose as the starting bid and the reserve.
However, if you placed a really low starting bid in an attempt to encourage the must-have-the-precious auction muppets, then I would like to say you are screwed, but even then you can place a bid with an alt, since you know the exact end time. Of course, bidding on your own auction is quite pathetic, but, EVE being an MMO, most people are happy to be pathetic so you wouldn't be an exception.
